The life of Sesshomaru and Ryokotsu (a.k.a Rin)

Chapter 14
Sesshomaru POV

(A/N: Normal writing= normal font...Thoughts.= italic...Telepathic communication= bold, italic... YOKAI=bold)

Last night I couldn't sleep. Not that I slept very often, but the fact I addressed the Young Master of the Southern Lands as mine left me pondering how I could face him now. In a few minutes he would be be out here to roam the streets of the newly devoted village.

"Your mate belongs to you."

He is not mate. He can never be.

"Why not?"

Because he is...he is...a he. A man. This Sesshomaru can not mate a man.

"But this Sesshomaru can mate a woman."

Yes I can.

Right then, slender fingers pulled the door open to reveal...my Rin. She was wearing a light blue net kimono with flowing sleeves. The kimono held white flowery patterns on the upper layer and a darker blue obi. This was the very kimono is gifted her the first night we were here. Her long black hair was half left flowing and the other half pinned up with the crescent moon hairpin, which I had gifted her too. She looked...beautiful. For I second I thought I was drooling. No this Sesshomaru does not drool.

"What do you see now?"

A woman...

Smiling at the sight before me, I offered her my hand. I held it extended only for her to look up at my questioningly. Smirking slightly, I motioned her to hold me hand. For a moment, shock graced her facial features and the next with a smile on her plump pink lips and her eyes sparkling, she held it. A shock went through both our bodies, but this time I didn't let go. I didn't want to let go. Not now. Not ever.

Rin/Ryokotsu POV

Walking down a street hand in hand with Sesshomaru was not I have ever dreamt of happening. Why is it that my heart fells like it would beat out of my chest an smash onto the dusty ground-full force? Why is it that I have a strange feeling in my stomach? Occasionally, we would make eye contact. Why do I find myself glancing at him so often? Why can I not look him in the eyes? And why do I blush and look down at our interlocked hands? I'm too embarrassed to even look at him. Lord, save my soul.

Suddenly, Kenji ran out and bowed in front of us.

"Tell her to go, milady. Tell the cursed woman to go...She has come back...that wretched woman has returned. That which..." he yelled out, before I interrupted him.

"Stop at once. Do not curse another being," I ordered.

I looked up into the streets to see who Kenji was talking about. No one.

Closing my eyes I focused on my listening skills and felt a presence near the woods. Letting go of Sesshomaru's hand, I walked over to the woods and stopped at the entrance where I saw a kneeling, hooded figure. The figure was hugging a young child, who wore a striped kimono with a hood. Suddenly, the wind passed and the child's hood fell of to reveal its dark purple/red hair and perky black ears. A hanyou?

I almost stepped forward, but stopped when I heard the hooded figure talk.

"Once there was land, where it didn't matter if you were human or not. Where it didn't matter if you were powerful or not. Where it didn't matter if you were a half breed or not," she paused, as the scent of tears hit me nose, "A land you would be accepted no matter what or who you are... You know, this land is far, far away, but we will find it...one day."

"Rin, is there something there?" Sesshomaru's voice came. At that the woman's startled eyes met mine.

"No, Sesshomaru. There's nothing," I said, turning around with a smile and grabbing his hand.

Sesshomaru POV

Rin has been rather suspicious today. I clearly smelt her lie earlier but she may have her own reasons to why she isn't telling me. However, things calmed down as the sun rose to the peak of the day, when the human pup Genji with his family to thank us.

"Lady Rin, thank you for saving me," his sister announced, bowing deeply.

"Apologies for any disrespect milady. We didn't know you were a demon and our children wasted your time by calling you to play with them," his parents said, following his sister.

"Oh no! I loved playing with the children. I have a soft spot for them and please don't change your attitude towards me because I am a demon," Rin begged, pulling all of them up to stand.

"That is true, we are here to protect you," I added.

"Oh Lady Rin, Lord Sesshomaru...may we ask you a favour?" Genji's father asked. After we nodded he brought a pregnant girl forward, who lay on a mattress carried by 4 men. "Please bless this woman. She and her child are at risk at, if she gives birth. Please heal her."

Smiling softly, Rin placed her hand over the swollen belly and I placed my hand on the woman's forehead.

"Inu Daiyoukai no chikara de kono joshi o iyasu," we chanted. (A/N: Translation- "By the power of the inu daiyoukai, heal this woman and child.")

In that instant, the weak looking woman rose from her bed and her face lit up. "I feel somewhat alive. Please get the Head Lady to check the pregnancy."

Rin looked at me smiling brightly, and I stared back into her eyes a look of accomplishment glowing in our eyes. At that moment, I heard Genji's father clear his throat. Looking at him, he motioned he wanted to talk to me alone. Finally, letting go of Rin's hand I walked over with him to the corner of a hut.

"My Lord, I hear you and Lady Rin are married," he started. Married? What made them..? Oh yes, humans do not hold hand unless they are married. Come to think of it, we daiyoukai don't hold hands unless we are courting. Does that mean we are courting because she is willingly holding my hand?

Not being bothered to correct him now, I nodded. In response, he smiled and said, "There is an open field just outside the forest, there is a nice view of the night sky and fireworks tonight. My wife used to enjoy going there before the children were born. Take her there and put this ring on her when you feel the time is right. Here woman don't roam around without a ring when they are married." He handed me the ring and walked back to him wife with a cheeky grin.

I went back to Rin and held her hand. Since, we are courting this Sesshomaru might as well do it.

"Come Rin. Let us eat and then I shall take you somewhere," I commanded, dragging her to the closest ramen stand.

Rin POV

There we lay on the grass staring up at the moving clouds and sun rays dancing against the darkening blue sky. It was like we were in some story! The air around us didn't seem as heavy as it did before. As we lay there I can't help but feel uncomfortable. At first I thought it was because I was laying next to a man! In my 720 years of life, ever have I laid next to a man, even though I lived the West Wing, the men's wing of the Southern Manor. Then, I thought it was because I was laying next to THE Sesshomaru, the Master of the Western Lands. The most powerful demon of all times! But it wasn't...it was the uttermost annoying silence between us as we lay there.

"Sesshomaru...what are we doing here?" I asked awkwardly, clearing my throat.

"I have something to show you, but first I want to tell you something," he announced turning his body, to look at me.

"What is it Sesshomaru?" I asked, looking at him as I noticed the sun finally going down and the stars now becoming visible to the naked eye.

At that moment, he took my hands into his larger ones and grazed his lips against it. And to my surprise he began singing. Really Sesshomaru? Is this the time to be singing? I thought, gigging inwardly, but what he sang made me stop.

"I will worship you everyday... I will cover you with gold and flowers, my beautiful woman in the moonlight," he sang, his golden eyes sharing a soft emotion that I had never seen before. "Everyday I want to be with you and surround you like the coolest breeze. Like a flower you came to me and sang your beautiful song. My soul now waits eagerly. Now I wish that time could freeze." He stopped as if waiting for me to sing.

"I will worship you everyday... I will cover you with gold and flowers, my beautiful prince in the moonlight. Everyday I want to be with you. Surround you like the coolest breeze," I sang.

"Are you a songbird? Or a beautiful gift on this lonely evening?" he responded, bring my hand to cup his face.

"If you want a flower, I will become a meadow for you. If you are thirsty, I will become water," I sang unconsciously, blushing bright red.

"I will worship you everyday... I will cover you with gold and flowers, my beautiful woman in the moonlight," he sang again, his voice like an angel. Leaning into my hand.

"Everyday I want to be with you. Surround you like the coolest breeze," I finished off.

"My soul now waits eagerly. Now I wish that time could freeze," we sang, before he brought my face up to look up at him and face inched closer to mine, till our lips met.

In the distance, I could hear the fireworks exploding. Although, it seemed like it was exploding inside my head and I seemed to ignore what my youkai told.

A/N: Hoped you liked the chapter guys. ;) I decided to give a cuter chapter, so tell me if you like it. I almost finished the next chapter, so 10 reviews and I'll upload it. Our goal is 100 reviews by 3rd September, because after that my upload schedule is going back to usual since I'm starting sixth form, so there won't be any regular updates like before. I'm sorry guys. BTW this is the longest chapter, so we officially passed 20,000 words. YAYY!
