Sorry I didn't update last weekend! I was so busy that it honestly slipped my mind. I hope you enjoy this new chapter! Have a wonderful weekend! Oh, and please if you're going to comment something nasty, just don't. Remember, updating this story is not my career. I don't have to do this. And if my grammar mistakes are too much for you just stop reading. My life is very busy and chaotic so I have a million other things I need to get done before I even update here.
Chapter Twenty-Six
I gasped as my hands and knees were covered in Rosalie's blood. Emmett gasped loudly as he wiggled himself out from behind Rosalie.
"Go get Esme!" I yelled at him. "Now!"
Emmett didn't hesitate to run out of the hut. I moved so I was holding Rosalie's hand.
"It'll be okay, just breathe," I told Rosalie.
She gasped and threw her head back before howling. "Oh! Ah!"
"It's okay," I winced as her howl pierced my ears painfully. Her hand dug into mine, squeezing tightly.
Esme entered the hut with Emmett, I could see Carlisle and Edward standing outside of the hut, peering in.
"Emmett get her up," Esme said. "We need to go now."
I followed them to the healing waters. I knew exactly where we were going. I followed them to the goddess river where Rosalie was to give birth.
Rosalie howled in pain the entire way. Her howling woke the rest of the village, and she cried out multiple times to the goddess, begging her to relieve her of the pain.
As soon as we got to the goddess river, Emmett walked himself and Rosalie into the water. Carlisle placed Esme onto her feet and hung back as she entered the water. Once Esme was there to hold Rosalie, Emmett let her go and left the river to stand by Carlisle.
Several people arrived now, and only the women walked into the water. The men stood on the shoreline with their sleeping children in their arms. They looked on as the women surrounded Rosalie, holding her so her upper half was floating above the surface.
"Go, Bella," Edward said as he gave me a gentle nudge.
"I don't know if I'm allowed in." I said as I bit my lip. "I'm still a child."
Esme looked up at me before waving her hand to beckon me to her. I took a deep breath and entered the water, not worrying about my skirt.
"Bella, hold her close. Hold her hand." Esme said as she told the other women to step aside to let me through.
I moved to Rosalie's side, supporting her and holding her hand tightly as she continued to howl in pain.
"Rosalie, you must push now," Esme encouraged as she positioned herself between Rosalie's legs.
"I ca—AHHH! Please! Something is wrong!" Rosalie screamed as she threw her head back.
"Nothing is wrong Rosalie, she is coming. I know it hurts, but you must keep pushing."
"You can do it Rosalie," I told her as I held her hand tightly. Her fingernails began to dig into my skin as she started to bear down. I winced but didn't pull my hand away.
"She is coming," Esme said excitedly. "Keep pushing Rosalie, she is almost here."
I looked down into the water to see a dark thatch of curly hair emerging from Rosalie's blond curls. I felt the color drain from my face as this was the first time I had ever seen a woman giving birth. I knew the mechanics of it, of course, but actually seeing it with my own eyes was a completely different experience.
Rosalie scream again, her torso twisting. I tried to firmly grab her arm to keep her in place, but I stopped as I spotted the other women who were supporting Rosalie let her go so that she may turn as she pleased.
Rosalie twisted so that she was on her side, facing the older woman who was on her other side. I placed my hand on Rosalie's back, so she still had support.
"There we go," Esme said calmly as Rosalie let out one final howl.
The silent air was filled with the strong cries of a baby. I looked over to see Esme holding a bloodied newborn baby in her arms. Esme looked down at the baby and furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
"What is wrong Esme?" The older woman asked.
"It is not a female," She said. "It is a male."
"He is so small…" The woman said. "Is he… is he alright…"
I was surprised that Rosalie had not commented on her new child or his gender, but when I looked down to see blood dripping from her lips and her eyes rolling backwards into her head, I knew why she hadn't.
"Esme!" I cried loudly as I flipped Rosalie's head out of the water, so she was sitting up. More blood proceeded to come out of her slack mouth.
"Rosalie?" I heard Emmett call. I could see him standing on his tiptoes to try and get a better view. His eyes were wide and full of fear.
"Carlisle take the babe," Esme yelled. Carlisle quickly came forward and cradled the small baby in his arms. He held the child against his chest as he looked on, still standing in the water.
Emmett moved as if he were going to come into the water too, but Edward and a few other men grabbed him and held him back. He cried out in anguish.
"Move!" Esme screeched at the old woman as she moved to Rosalie's head. Her eyes widened as she looked over.
"What do we do?" I asked as I looked at Esme.
She stared down at Rosalie with wide eyes, unsure of what to do. My hands started shaking as I held her, my blood running cold. Just a moment passed before the familiar ringing in my ear pierced through my skull.
I knocked Esme aside as I grabbed Rosalie's head, holding her face in my hands. I felt claws dig into my shoulder, but then heard Esme shout.
"Leave her be!" She shouted. "Let her work!"
"Get her out of the water!" I screamed as I started pushing Rosalie to the shore. "She needs to be out of the water!"
"Help her!" Esme shouted as she grabbed Rosalie's arm and helped pull her to the shower. The other women started helping me to get her to the shore.
As soon as we got onto the shore, Emmett started walking over. I hissed at him before he could take two steps.
"Stay away! Do not touch her!" I snarled as I started pressing down on Rosalie's stomach.
"Do as she says!" Esme said. "Stay back!"
I pressed my forehead against hers and squeezed my eyes shut. The ringing in my ear was very intense. After a moment, something, I'm not exactly sure what, but something popped into my head that told me exactly what I needed to do.
"Rosalie listen to my voice," I said into her ear. "You need to push all of the bad out. When I push down onto your stomach, I need you to breathe out as hard as you can. It's going to hurt, but please do it. Your son needs you to be here."
I placed both of my hands onto her stomach and pushed as hard as I could. I could feel her breathing out as she did. More blood spewed out of her, but this time, as I pushed all the way down onto her stomach, black mixed into her bright red blood.
Rosalie let out a whine of pain which caused Emmett to cry, "You are hurting her!"
I could hear the scuffle behind me, and I somehow knew that Edward had tackled Emmett to the ground. I wanted to look behind me and see but I was too preoccupied with helping Rosalie.
"What is that?" Esme asked me as she looked down at the mixture of red and black blood.
The ringing in my ear intensified. "It's from her last pregnancies… It's the toxicity she's been holding in. I need to get it out of her."
"How do we get it out?" Esme asked as she placed her hand on Rosalie's stomach.
"The old fashion way," I said as I quickly moved between Rosalie's legs before sticking my hand inside of her. I grimaced as my hand slid through the thick mixture of blood and toxicity.
The rational part of my brain was screaming at me that I was doing the wrong thing and that this was disgusting, but the other part of my brain, the part that I didn't understand, pushed me forward and kept telling me to keep going.
Rosalie let out a strangled cry as my hand pushed passed the small barrier into her womb. As soon as my hand passed that barrier, I could feel the thick lump that I knew was making Rosalie sick.
"I got it," I said through my teeth as I dug my fingers into the lump. "Esme grab me, pull me back, slowly."
Esme placed her hands on my hips and helped pull me back. Once my hand was out, I heard the sigh of relief slip pass Rosalie's lips. I looked down at the black lump in my hands. I wasn't sure what it was, but as soon as it was out, the ringing in my ear lessened.
"She'll be better now," I sighed as I dropped the lump onto the ground.
"What is that?" Esme asked.
"I'm not sure, but it was making Rosalie lose her babies. It's out of her now, that's all that matters."
Esme nodded. "She will be healthy again?"
"Yes," I smiled. "But let's get her back to her hut and make her comfortable."
"Let us wash her off first." Esme said as she walked to the water with a wooden bowl that was resting on the ground.
"She is going to be alright?" A small blond woman asked, "My daughter will be healthy?"
"Yes she will," I smiled at her as I grabbed her hand. "She will sleep for three days. You will have to help Emmett feed the baby."
She smiled before stroking her cheek. "Good. And her son will be healthy?"
"I think so," I nodded. "I don't have a clear vision yet, but I'm really confident that he will be."
Her mother smiled before grabbing my shoulders and pulling me so that my forehead was against hers. "You are a goddess send. I did not understand why she had brought you here, but now I know. You came here to save my child and my grandchild. Thank you." When she pulled away, she was looking over my shoulder. "Can my son come and see his mate now? I believe it is nearly killing him."
I looked over to see Edward's knee placed into Emmett's back. I laughed before waving to Edward to let Emmett up.
He ran over and kneeled down, looking Rosalie over. "She has lost all of this blood, what have you done to her?"
"Rosalie had something inside of her that was making her sick and making her lose her babies. I got it out of her, she'll be able to have more."
"She will have more?" Emmett said with a confused frown. "She cannot have more though… she has had one. I do not understand."
I smiled and placed my hand onto his arm. the ringing in my ear resumed, humming even louder.
"Next year, when the Es'id fruit blooms, it will be the season for new babies." I smiled.
Carlisle appeared beside Emmett and presented his son to him. The boy was so small, he looked tiny as he shivered in Carlisle's arms. Emmett twisted from Rosalie to cradle his son. He juggled him awkwardly until the baby snuggled into the crook of his arm.
Rosalie's mother smiled at the new baby in Emmett's arms. "He is handsome."
"He is small," Emmett said as he stroked the baby's head. "But he is perfect. He is my son."
"He will be a strong boy," Carlisle said as he placed a finger on the baby's chest. "I can feel it. He has the heart of a strong man."
Emmett snuggled and nuzzled his nose against the baby before letting out a purr that was very similar to that one that Carlisle would let out when nuzzling his children. In return, the baby let out a soft coo, as if he were answering his father.
"Let us get Rosalie back to her hut," Esme said. "She will need a lot of rest."
"And she will need to replenish her nutrients." I said. "I will make a nutrient mixture that will help keep her strong. It'll get her and your son through the next three days."
Emmett nodded, his face still against his son's. "This is the longest I have ever held one of my babes."
"You will hold him for a very long time," I smiled. "Now let's get Rosalie to your hut and make her comfortable."
"Bella," Emmett said before looking up at me. "I want you to be the first person in the family to hold my son. You helped bring him into this world. You healed his mother."
"Oh," I said, not given time to process what he had said as he laid the baby right into my arms. The baby was small, smaller than even the average sized babies from the other world. I stared down at him in wonderment, as his bright blue eyes stared up at me. His eyes looked almost like diamonds.
He had the curliest, darkest hair, just like his father. When he moved, opening his mouth slightly, I spotted four very small white points on his gums. I moved to stick my finger into his mouth to touch one of the points, but my hand was still covered in the blood.
"He is beautiful." I said.
"You should bathe him." Rosalie's mother said as she stroked her hand over his head. "She would want you to bathe him."
"Uh, okay," I said as I carefully stood. I felt Edward placed his hands on me to gently help me into the water with the baby in my arms.
Once we were hip deep in the water, I spun around so that Edward may see the baby as well.
"Put him all the way under," Edward said.
"Under the water? I can't do that he won't be able to breathe."
"Watch," Edward said as he lowered my arms into the water, completely submerging them.
Before the baby's face went under the water, he gulped a large breath and held it as he went under. His arms and legs started kicking wildly as it looked like he was trying to swim. I watched in fascination as he actually started to swim away from us.
"The babies love the water," Edward chuckled as he grabbed the boy and placed him back into my arms. "Even they know that the water is our home. It is where we are created."
I smiled as I dipped half of the baby's body into the water and let him kick his feet.
"You are happy?" Edward asked after hearing my giggle at the baby's kicking feet.
I looked up at him. "I am very happy."
