Sorting and Classes

As Harry arrived at Hogwarts, he felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. He always knew that he is different from the other students, and he isn't sure how they will react to him once they find out he is a vampire. Not that he is willing to share.

The Great Hall, as they were told, is full of chatter as Harry waited for his name to be called with his classmates. He read about all 4 houses and is excited to learn which one he gets into.

"Potter, Harry," his name came.

As Harry approached the Sorting Hat, he couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. Being a vampire has already made him feel like an outsider, and he isn't sure where he will fit in at Hogwarts.

He heard everyone excitedly say his name many times and can feel their excitement. He didn't know he is popular. If he did, he would have at least tried to talk more to know why he is popular.

On the other hand, unnerving silence spread over The Great Hall none able to believe that the silent boy who is amongst them is Harry Potter, their Saviour, The Boy Who Lived. Whispers broke on which house he will be in.

Dumbledore gave the boy a once over. He remembered the address on Harry's admittance letter not showing No.4 Privet Drive. Based on it, he thought they were on a vacation celebrating Harry's birthday.

He is halfway sending Hagrid to show young Harry around Diagon Alley when Minerva intervened saying it's unnecessary and showing blatant favouritism. She just reminded him how Hagrid had a knack for gaining too much attention which is ill for young Harry and so he stopped.

Seeing the silent boy made him wonder if it's the right call. He can't get a good grasp on Harry or his abilities. He is sure that after growing up with Dursleys, Harry has become a humble boy. With a smile, he oversaw the sorting.

The Sorting Hat is placed on Harry's head, and it began to speak.

"Well, well, what do we have here? A young vampire, I see. You're certainly not like the other students, are you?"

"No, I'm not," Harry replied, his voice low and confident. If there is anything he is confident about, it's about his vampire powers.

"I can sense your fear, your uncertainty," the Sorting Hat continued. "But don't worry, young Harry. I can see great things ahead for you. You have a strong will and a fierce determination, qualities that will serve you well in the years to come."

Harry is surprised by the Sorting Hat's words. He had always felt like an outsider, like he didn't belong anywhere after he ran away from his relatives. But the Sorting Hat seemed to understand him.

"I know that being a vampire can be challenging," it continued. "But I sense that you have the strength to overcome those challenges, to use your powers for good and to protect those around you."

Harry felt a sense of relief and gratitude wash over him. For the first time since he had arrived at Hogwarts, he felt like he had a place where he belonged. Elara's loss had its toll on him.

"I'll do my best," he said quietly.

"I know you will," the Sorting Hat replied. "Now, let's see where we can place you. Ah, yes. Do you have any preferences? Slytherin, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw suit you best as you are cunning, strong and smart." It waited for Harry's reply.

Generally, it won't let students pick the house as an impartial judge, it's the Hat's decision to make. But seeing Harry's rare case and how he fits in multiple houses, it chose to listen to the Boy's view.

"I-um, Can't I go to Hufflepuff?"

"Interesting. Hufflepuff you ask?" The Hat asked to confirm. Harry gave a nod. "Any particular reason?"

"I read many bad things about Slytherin. Gryffindor? That Malfoy kid said they are rambunctious. Ravenclaw, maybe that will be good. Hufflepuff I'm sure will get some good friends as I heard they are very loyal." Harry explained.

"I see. But unfortunately, you don't have any qualities that fit Helga's House. I'm sure a place where intelligence, wit, and knowledge are highly valued will be good for you. You'll do well in RAVENCLAW." It shouted. The Great Hall erupted in cheers.

Harry smiled, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. He had heard about the wisdom, wit and intellectual ability of Ravenclaw House, and he is happy to be a part of it as he also understood he doesn't have any Hufflepuff qualities and his wish is too unrealistic.

"Welcome to Ravenclaw, Harry," the Sorting Hat said, as it was lifted off his head. "I have a feeling that you're going to do great things." were its parting words as Harry walked to the table in Blue and Bronze.

Everyone excitedly greeted him. It's there or for that matter, everyone's first time seeing Harry without his hood as he always had it on. His aristocratic face with his delicate features impressed many girls around.

Due to being a vampire, he didn't need glasses as his body changed a lot post-vampirification. But Harry still has glasses just to not stand out too much. Much to his surprise, not many students have glasses here.

With a sigh, he continued watching the ceremony and saw a few more students sorted. While Dumbledore is surprised by Harry going to Ravenclaw. He hid it well and enjoyed sorting.

After the ceremony was completed, with his usual welcome speech and warnings, he sent the students to their rooms to rest.

Being a Vampire has its advantages. Harry doesn't need to sleep and even if he does, 3 hours is the highest he has slept in the past 3 years. He just acted as if he was sleeping when Elara checked on him.

The next gift is his physical strength. For an 11-year-old, he can outrun many grown adults and lift higher weights than many combined. His punch can shatter a stone wall, maybe not Hogwarts ones, but in general.

He also can see in darkness and has clear vision. Because of his training, he can call his fangs and claws at will. Elara always fed him meat instead of veggies, which are what growing kids normally eat. Harry now understood why.

She adjusted his human blood craving to animal meat craving, dulling its ferocity so that he won't kill anyone by accident when he is hungry. As he recalled, she did many out-of-ordinary things making them look like normal.

With fond memories of his adopted mother, Harry slept for 3 hours and woke up at 3. After going through his morning routines, at 3.30, he sat to read his first-year spells and practice his subjects. Proving the sorting hat is right in sending him to Ravenclaw.

He is given his own room which is at the corner of the Tower and Harry used it to its full extent, practising many charms, transfiguration and daily exercises.

After having a full-course breakfast, Harry made his way to his first class, Transfiguration. He retired early from his House's celebrations and they almost forgot Harry Potter is in their House.

His first day in Hogwarts was both exciting and nerve-wracking. However, his excitement soon took over as he found himself standing in the grand hallway of Hogwarts, surrounded by other first-year students.

The first class on Harry's schedule is Transfiguration. He made his way to the classroom, feeling a little apprehensive about how his vampire side would affect his magical abilities.

His only goal in Hogwarts is to not let anyone know he is a Vampire. He is hopeful that Hogwarts will be a good home for him. He doesn't want to let his secret out and trash that hope. He doesn't have anywhere else to go after all. He can go to Elara's home, but he is sure he will feel very lonely there without her.

Pushing his thoughts aside, Harry entered the classroom, he noticed that it was full of students, but one seat in the front row was left unoccupied. He quickly made his way to the seat and sat down, feeling relieved that he didn't have to navigate the complicated social dynamics of choosing a seat.

The classroom is buzzing with excitement as the professor, a tall and imposing witch with a stern expression, walked in. She introduced herself as Professor McGonagall and began the lesson.

The topic for the day is turning inanimate objects into animals. Harry listened intently as Professor McGonagall explained the various techniques and theories behind Transfiguration.

For the rest of the class, Harry focused on his studies, eager to learn more about the magical world he had just entered. He felt a sense of belonging among his fellow students, despite his doubts.

And as he left the classroom, he knew that he is starting a new chapter in his life, one filled with adventure, friendship, and the occasional craving for blood. His Housemates are very helpful to him, easily accepting him as one of them.

After his first class in Transfiguration, Harry made his way to his next class, which is Potions. He is looking forward to class as well. As he heard of a legendary potion that can reverse vampirification.

The classroom is dimly lit, with a large cauldron at the front of the room. Harry's sensitive nose can't bear the strong odour of the room. The professor, a thin and haggard-looking wizard with greasy hair, introduced himself as Professor Snape.

The lesson for the day is to brew a complex potion, and Harry found himself struggling to keep up. His heightened senses are making it difficult to concentrate, and the various smells in the classroom aren't helping.

Just as Harry is about to give up, he felt a tap on his shoulder. It's Snape, he went on a tangent about how he is useless and dumb to not even know how to brew the basic option. With renewed determination, Harry bulldozed through everything and can complete the potion with ease and even got Snape's snarky comment on that.

Harry is sure that the Professor had some vendetta against him and he can't bear the man's muttering and foul odour of the room. If possible, he would have dropped out of the course, but he want to see if such a legendary Potion exists and so couldn't.

Becoming a Vampire not only enhanced his physical strength. But also his sight, hearing and smell. His ears are very sensitive and his stay in a huge Metropolitan city such as London allowed him to tone down their sensitivity.

His smell is as sharp as ever though. Though with much effort, Harry managed to reduce its blood detection as that evokes blood craving in him which he doesn't want to drink. His encounter with Snape reminds him of all those bad memories for some reason.

Shutting his mind, Harry moved to his next class on schedule, Charms. He made his way to the classroom, feeling confident after his morning practice session.

The professor, a cheerful and diminutive Wizard, introduced himself as Professor Flitwick, Harry's Head of House. The lesson for the day is a levitation spell, and Harry found himself enjoying the class immensely.

With his vampire-enhanced magical abilities, he found that he can do the spells with ease. He even impressed his classmates with his skill. Flitwick gave them all 3 points and Harry 5 for mastering the charm with ease.

As Harry made his way to his first Defense Against the Dark Arts class with Professor Quirrell, he couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity mixed with apprehension. He heard rumours that Quirrell is a bit odd, but he is determined to learn all he could about defensive spells and magic.

After all, his strong body with great defences will always be a boon to him. Harry went to the class and it is dimly lit, and Harry noticed a strange odour in the air. It irritated him a lot. He knew this smell. It's garlic.

It's said that Garlic repels Vampires and it's half true. Garlic's strong scent irritates the sensitive nostrils of vampires and may cause internal bleeding if severe. And so Harry sat as far as he could to the smell near an open window just to be safe.

Professor Quirrell introduced himself as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, and Harry couldn't help but feel a bit intimidated by the stuttering man.

The lesson for the day is casting defensive spells, and Quirrell demonstrated the proper technique for casting a shield charm. Harry watched closely, trying to follow along despite the professor's nervous mannerisms.

The time for the students to try it themselves came. Harry stepped forward, feeling a mixture of nervousness, and excitement. He covered his nose with cloth and nobody asked him why. As they can understand the strong smell of garlic.

"W-why ar-re you covering M-mr Potter?" Quirrel asked.

"The scent is too much, sir," Harry replied and after a moment of contemplation, Quirrel nodded. Harry felt the man did something, but didn't know what. With a shrug, he took the defensive stance.

He closed his eyes and focused, visualizing a shield forming in front of him.

"W-wand at the ready, and... p-protego!" Quirrel muttered and Harry did as told and much to everyone's amazement, a shimmering blue shield formed in front of Harry, blocking the spell that Professor Quirrell had cast.

Harry felt a surge of pride and excitement as he continued to practice the shield charm, and soon he was able to cast it with ease. Quirrell nodded in approval, and Harry couldn't help but grin.

As the class came to an end, Harry left feeling more confident in his abilities than ever before. He knows that there are still many challenges ahead of him in DADA, but he is ready to face them head-on, even with the strange quirks of his new professor.
