A/N: WARNING for violence, a mildly graphic fight scene and implied/Referenced Past Suicide Attempt.
- Forks -
-There's no one sir. I believe we are late.- Chang informed as he stepped out of the house.
Magni glared at him.
-Really? I didn't notice.- The blond snapped as he glared into the house with such hatred he could feel his blood burning, fingers curling into fists as a growl stuck at the back of his throat.- Were there any indications on where could they have gone?- He asked.
-No, sir, but I found this.- Chang said pulling out a picture from underneath his sleeve before handing it to the blond.
Magni snatched it with a frown and as he turned it around he was met with a sight that made him see red.
There he was.
Alexander .
With a woman!
He looked so full of happiness. That smile!
It was enough to make Magni seethe and he ripped the picture in half.
-How dare he?! I will make him watch as I tear her to pieces and strip the flesh from her bones!- He shouted throwing the picture on the ground and stomping on it. Spitting on it.
-Sir-
-Quiet! Let me think!- Magni cut off shoving the silver haired and stalking past him. Chang frowned but said nothing.
He had to remember Malivore's words. If he did this right he would be free. He wouldn't have to go back to that endless pit of darkness. He could be free.
Until then, he just had to follow orders.
-He's smart, so he must have realized by now that I'm after him, he won't go South if he wants to avoid the Mikaelson nor would he go back to Europe, the tame vampires seem to have kept him despite most likely having found out who he is, it will make it harder to find him.
-The Volturi know who he is. Wouldn't it be easier to just wait until he's caught? You said before it would take him a while to recover.- Chang said as a statement of fact as he watched the blond vampire passing around.
Magni spun around with a blazing glare. But just as quick was the fire extinguished from his gaze and a smile split across his face.
-That's… actually not a bad idea.- He conceded before grinning maniacally.- And knowing Aro, he will strike harder on the second round, he's not a good loser after all. And when that happens…- His gaze grew dark as hatred filled his eyes.- I will make sure to remind him what happens when he thinks he can ignore what he did, remind him that I will always be there to take from him as much as he took from me.- He sentenced punching the wall. Wood giving in under the force of the impact, splinters flying everywhere.
The sudden sound of footsteps caught their attention. The stench of dog filling their noses making Chang scrunch up his nose in distaste.
And then a brown wolf emerged from the forest. Growling as more wolves emerged from among the trees.
-Shapeshifters.- Magni spat with disgust, though even if he did he was already retreating.- Take care of them.- The blond ordered hatefully as he realized that the wolves were most likely protecting Alexander, because gone or not this was still vampire territory, the dogs shouldn't be here.
Which meant the dogs were allied with the vampires. With Alexander.
Chang smirked at that and cracked his knuckles.
-With pleasure.
His skin tore as bones snapped before rearranging as he shifted.
He took advantage of the surprise in the wolves to pounce at the one who was clearly the Alpha, a vicious snarl tearing out of his throat as he did. He slammed headfirst into its chest without restraint, sending it crashing to the ground.
The wolf got up and launched back at him with a feral snarl. Chang dodged the attack before spinning around and mercilessly sinking his fangs onto its back, biting with unforgiving force, breaking muscle and skin in the process. Clawed fingers digging into its back as he brought the wolf down, he twisted the bite harshly, making the wolf yelp loudly and twist in his hold, desperated to break free.
Another wolf jumped on Chang's back, biting down on his shoulder and prompting him to release the other wolf as he rolled on the ground with a grayish one, biting each other and snarling furiously, he used his legs to kick the wolf's stomach, sending it flying, it collided against a tree, a yelp abandoning it.
A silver wolf lunged at him this time and Chang swung his claws at it. To his surprise the silver wolf was faster as it managed to dodge his claws, rolling on the ground and getting up quickly. He swung a fist towards the silver wolf when this one went to bite him. The punch connected with this one's jaw. The force of it sending it crashing a few feets away from him.
It didn't got up.
A light brown wolf snarled at him with ferocious might before pouncing. Chang got ready to deflect the wolf with a punch just for the wolf to take a leap at the last minute and land on top of him. Fangs digging through his shoulder.
More wolves came at him and brought him down. One lunged for his neck, fangs snapping shut around his throat with mighty force.
He managed to free one of his arms and swung at the wolf on his throat, a high yelp coming from it, he tore skin as he twisted around and broke out from the swarm of wolves. Jumping back before reaching out to yank the wolf off his back, he had to dig his claws into this one's muzzle to get it to release him and when it did he threw it across the place.
A brown wolf leaped and Chang leaped too. Their bodies colliding mid-air. He brought the wolf down and bit through its shoulderblade, twisting before yanking back with feral force, tearing the skin and ripping off a huge chunk of meat. Blood spraying out as the wolf whimpered loudly.
A pool of blood forming beneath its body as it shifted back into that of a teenager, gasping for air and tears streaming down his face.
Dark eyes filled with terror as Chang hovered over him. Growling. Blood dripping from his muzzle. A clawed hand pressing against the teen's chest. And as the muzzle opened once again with a row of fangs he dove down.
Another force collided against him sending him crashing against a tree. More wolves emerging from the trees as a black wolf came to shield the other Alpha.
Two packs.
Magni must have escaped in the middle of the fight because Chang couldn't feel him at all.
And as much as he loved the idea of tearing wolves apart even he had to admit he was no match for two packs of wolf shapeshifters.
Thus.
With fire in his veins, he bolted.
A good thing was that he decreased their numbers for a while. With good luck that would set the wolves against the vampires. The vampires had no reason whatsoever to trust the wolves with the existence of the original of their sire line being among them. No one would trust their enemies like that.
Which meant that a broken peace could ensue.
And there was nothing like a situation of extreme chaos to expose people and make them take drastic decisions.
Put the original on a tight spot and force him to reveal his true darkness.
~
Canada, Calgary -
Bella was helping Esme dust the living room when her phone went off. She was quick to set the duster aside before pulling her phone out.
Jacob.
Her first thought was Renesmee and fear seized her as she took the call.
-Jacob?
For a moment silence met her from the other end and it could be her imagination but she could hear pained sounds in the background. Muffled hissing followed by a curse.
And then.
"Hi Bella." - The strained voice caught her attention and she narrowed her eyes.
-Did something happen?
"Is Dr. Fang there?"- Bella glanced towards where Carlisle was wiping at one of the windows. The blond doctor turning to look at her at the mention of the nickname.
-Yes. He is.- Bella knew she didn't had to all things considered but she still put the phone on speaker.- You are on speaker.- She informed.
-Is everything alright?- Carlisle questioned as he left the cloth by the window.
"Yeah, but-."
"Yeah! If you fucking forget the fact that Leah's got a broken jaw and Quil's got a slash across his face! Or how you got your back mauled and Collin's missing a freaking chunk of his shoulder! Seth almost lost an eye and his mouth looks like a bad copy of the Joker!"
Paul's shout was followed by a door slamming shut and muffled arguing somewhere in the background where Sam's voice was faintly recognized.
But none of that mattered.
Not when Paul's words had froze the Cullen's to the core.
-Jacob… what happened?- Carlisle was the one who managed to break out of the shock. His voice coming out a bit stiff.
"A weretiger happened. I didn't even knew those things existed. Brady and Collin said they smelt a red vampire, so we went to investigate, a guy was there with the weretiger. We couldn't get to him, the coward set the weretiger on us so he could escape."
That…
-Is everyone alright? I mean-
"No one is dying doc, Paul was just being dramatic, everyone is healing perfectly fine."
-What about Collin?- Carlisle asked, unable to not feel nauseous over the idea of the kid going through something as traumatic as losing a chunk of his shoulder at the hands of a weretiger, the kid just turned 14 last month, he was still a child for crying out loud. Wolf or not.
"He's fine. A bit shaken up but he will be fine, nothing important got damaged so his shoulder shouldn't be affected that much."
That at least set some relief in the room.
-Did you manage to get a look of the vampire?- Rosalie questioned from her corner of the room where she had been sweeping the floor.
"Dude was blond, creepy blue eyes, had a scar across his left eye. I heard him say something about making sure to remind him, and by him I guess he meant your creepy guy, what happens when he thinks he can ignore what he did, remind him that he will always be there to take from him as much as he took from him."
Jacob's words filled the room with both confusion and uneasiness.
"Now, I don't know what he might have done but I have never heard anyone speak like he was doing, his voice… This guy's seriously dangerous, he even has a weretiger with him. You should be careful. If he could take on us he will definitely be able to take you all down before you can even think about fighting back."
Silence.
-Thanks Jacob.- Was all Carlisle managed to say after a moment, so many questions rising, a weretiger? Since when were those a thing? The fact that he was there in their home at Forks made him shudder.
A day more and things could have gone horribly wrong.
As the call cut Carlisle glanced upstairs where he knew Jasper and Alice were at. And he perfectly knew they must have heard the phone call.
-Jasper, would you please come downstairs?- He requested.
Not soon after Jasper made his apparition with Alice right behind him. His face giving nothing away as he came to stand a few feets away from him, hands clasped behind his back, that same soldier stance he took whenever he was preparing himself to report something to Carlisle, because he was tense...
Or when Jasper was gonna lie and he was aware that said lie was extremely wrong but still went and did it because it was what he thought it was best, either to protect himself or someone else.
Carlisle saw that stance as a method Jasper used to feel less guilty while lying. Soldiers had to lie when captured or faced by enemies in order to protect themselves or someone else.
It wasn't a thought liked much. The idea of Jasper seeing them as enemies he had to lie to was never a comforting one.
He didn't want him to feel threatened. That was the last thing Carlisle wanted.
But he needed answers.
-You heard Jacob's description?- He went with a simple question that he knew the answer to but still needed confirmation. Jasper did had the habit to space out sometimes.
-Yes.
-Is it Magni?- He asked. This time Jasper seemed to hesitate before answering.
-... Yes.
-What about the weretiger? You know anything about that?
-No.- To be honest Jasper didn't even knew those existed. What was Magni doing with a weretiger? Nothing good definitely. Weretigers were as violent as they were clever, it made them extremely dangerous.
And if what he heard in the call was right this weretiger seemed to have quite the high bloodlust.
That… complicated things.
If things came to worse he might be forced to use the ace under his sleeve. But was it worth the consequences?
Yes.
It was if it meant keeping the Cullen's alive.
If it meant keeping them alive he was willing to break his own rules and stick his neck out. He would do anything for them.
-Why is your own creator so hell bent on killing you? So much he's got a weretiger with him? The way Jacob put it he's doing it out of revenge, why?- Edward wasn't Carlisle. He didn't fear being straightforward. And while he accepted to protect his brother he refused to do so when he had no idea what was he protecting him from.
How dangerous could this man be or how far he was willing to go to get to Jasper. What fueled his rage? His hatred? No one seeked revenge for so long. Not with such obsession.
Something was missing here.
The fact that Jasper tensed and glared at him did nothing but give him proof that he was right.
Something bigger was going on.
-That's none of your business.- Jasper snapped dryly.
-It's if that thing is coming for us.- Edward snapped back and when Jasper opened his mouth to protest Edward didn't need to be able to read his mind to know what he would say.- Don't you dare say that you will leave because that's not what I mean and you know it. All I'm saying is that you keep pulling the same bullshit.
Edward was never one to swear but right now he was feeling too agitated to care. He was tired of the lies and the secrets, when this whole seemed to do nothing but grow and grow, he felt like despite knowing the truth they were still running blind.
Where no one but Jasper knew the true extent of the danger they were all in.
-You lie and lie and expect us to trust you blindly. How the hell are we suppose to help you when we have no idea what to expect? How far is this guy willing to go to get to you? What fuels his persistence? Why does he have something like a weretiger with him? How are we suppose to help you or even trust you for that matter when you won't trust us with the reason why is some maniac, who also happens to be your creator, so hell bent on seeking revenge against you?
Silence was his answer.
The look on Alice's face let Edward know that not even her knew the reason for that.
And that was enough to tell Edward that something horrible had to be looming behind all that mess for that to be possible. For Alice to not know.
Jasper for his side bit his tongue.
Because as much as he hated to admit it Edward was right. It wasn't fair to expect them to help him and not tell them the true extent of what that could bring. What were they facing.
Magni… he knew no limits when it came to getting to him. He didn't care the amount of people he had to kill. Their states. Their ages. Nothing mattered to him but getting to cause him as much suffering as possible. It was…
Like dealing with a man with no humanity whatsoever.
And the worst was that the man was clever. Frighteningly clever, of course that when he wasn't letting his impatience win him over.
But that didn't change the fact that he was certainly already scheming against him. A second plan to find him.
And if that was true…
Was it worth it to keep them in the dark? He claimed to be willing to do whatever he had to in order to protect them, but at the end of the day he was just being selfish, an hypocrite, because he didn't want to lose them.
That's why he was still lying to them.
Lying so he wouldn't lose them.
But wouldn't that be better?
Tell them the truth so he can be rid of them even if it killed him the idea of feeling their hatred. Disgust. Disappointment. Rejection…
But he didn't want that.
But he had to.
Because life had taught him that sometimes it wasn't about what he wanted to do but what the had to do.
And this was one of those times.
He must make them realize the monster they are protecting, because their safety depended on it. Who cared if he was hurt in the act if they were safe?
He had to be strong. The world didn't care about what he wanted. He didn't deserve to be selfish after what he did. This was his cross to bear and the Cullens weren't at fault. Alice wasn't at fault.
Thus.
He stilled his nerves and took one last time to sear into his mind the feeling of Alice's wonderful emotions, sear them into his mind before he had to feel her hatred. Her disappointment. Her disgust.
And then.
-You're right.- Alice's emotions perked up with confusion. Surprise. One thing he had never done was give her the slightest detail on how was he turned.
And now here he was, willing to give it away so easily.
-You should sit.- He suggested.- This is gonna take a while.- And he also wanted an easier access to escape in case he couldn't bear their emotions or reactions over what he was about to tell them.
He looked at Alice who gave him a funny look, though she still complied his silent request, she should sit down. He didn't want her too close. It would hurt less when she realized the monster she held so high. Realized that all this time he had been nothing but a rotten soul who's redemption could never happen no matter the amount of good deeds he did.
-Where do I start?- Stalling. He was stalling. Despite his resolution he was still hoping to be able to skip parts of the truth he knew he could no longer run from.
-The beginning.- Carlisle's gaze told him full well what " the" beginning he meant.
And Jasper knew this was it.
He couldn't run anymore. What's what they said? The past will eventually catch up to you.
-The beginnin'... I guess I can't be quite certain of that all things considered.
Ah.
He didn't like thinking about the past.
But he had to.
-I wasn't… alive when she found me. Wasn't 100% complete either.
As expected confusion flared in the air.
-She? Wasn't alive? 100%... Dude what?- Emmett did great at voicing the deafening questions in the air. Alice was giving him a concerned look.
-I told you before. As a human I was bound to a witch who refused to let us die. You could drink poison, slit your throat, drive a sword through your heart, put a hex on yourself. It didn't matter what you did, you would always come back to life.
Each one of those methods he had tried and each one of those methods had failed to give him the sweet embrace of death. Freedom.
-I don't know when it was but there was a night of full moon where I happened to come across a pack of werewolves. I let 'em attack me. I thought it wouldn't hurt to check if gettin' pulled apart would do the trick.- He stated bluntly.
Horror seized the air and he watched Esme's muffle a gasp with her hand. How nauseous Carlisle seemed to grow and how sick Emmett and Bella looked. Even Rosalie and Edward looked faint.
Alice…
Her pain obliterated the air like a burning wave that made his throat close. Her horror. And he could see she was holding herself back from just springing up and throwing herself at him.
But she didn't.
Because she knew that that's not what he wanted right now. He didn't want comfort.
That didn't meant he couldn't give it. He soothed the emotions in the air, caressing them with calm.
He needed them calm so he could stay calm.
-His wife; Iddun, found me. She was a heretic and she could tell I wasn't dead… 'm not sure how she saw it wise to do it but she brought me back with her and put me back together. It took me 'round two days to wake up an' 'round a week to heal completely… in the meantime she'd been too curious and had wanted to know how was I alive. So I told her about the spell Dahlia put upon me.
And how was that the greatest mistake he had ever done.
-Magni suggested turnin' me into a vampire but I refused. Vampires still have blood and seein' how powerful Dahlia's magic was... I feared it might end up tellin' her my location or somethin' if I tried to tamper with my body like that… I made a comment off hand 'bout wishin' vampires didn't had blood to begin with, and I guess it was the wrong thing to say, 'cause it got Idunn suggestin' creatin' a spell, one that would get rid of my blood when I became a vampire, that way Dahlia wouldn't be able to track me, there would be no risks for me to stay tied to her.
Realization was starting to down on their faces and Jasper gave them a moment to take that in.
-You became a vampire through a spell?- Carlisle asked to make sure he was getting this right. At Jasper's short nod Carlisle frowned… Magic had been involved in the creation of the original..?
He had been willing to put himself through a spell that might not have worked in order to escape that woman… Dahlia. Carlisle still couldn't even process past the fact that Jasper had gone and let himself get mauled by werewolves.
How dismissive he had said that, as if it was a regular thing to not pay mind to, Carlisle couldn't even begin to imagine the amount of pain he must have felt at being torn apart.
The amount of pain he must have been in to even think that that would be a good choice. Even the things he listed as failures to cause death upon them felt more like a "him".
And that was a thought that made him feel sick.
To think he had been so desperated to free himself from his connection with that woman that he had attempted suicide. More than once. In quite the gruesome ways.
It made Carlisle want to hug him and tell him just how much he was loved and cared for. He was no one's slave, he wasn't alone, he would never be alone again, he was free to do whatever he wanted, he would never be anywhere near that woman again, he was safe.
But he also knew he couldn't. Jasper would never allow such gesture nor would he believe Carlisle's words no matter how much he was willing to repeat them.
But Carlisle was nothing if not persistent.
He would repeat those words as many times as he could, would repeat them until it sank in into him that he didn't had to expect the worst any time he had to speak with them, he didn't had to feel so… scared.
Because that was it. Wasn't it? Fear.
Whenever Jasper had to speak about his past, even before the truth came out, there had always been that lingering fear in his eyes, as if he was afraid that whatever he had to say would make them turn their backs on him.
And that…
That spoke a lot about the kind of life he had had. Aside from Peter Carlisle has never heard him speak of anyone from his past he held dear, he did insinuated having met someone in 1844 but Carlisle couldn't be sure of the kind of relationship between them. And there was also the Icelandic coven.
He had reacted quite strongly to the mention of said coven, even the way Aro mentioned it had felt… strange.
Still.
If he was as old as Carlisle knew him to be… how lonely had he been before he came across Maria? Across Alice?
-How does that even work? I mean. You wanted to be a vampire with no blood but became something new?- Rosalie's voice pulled Carlisle out of his thoughts.
Rosalie didn't knew much about magic aside from a few bits her brain held from Emmett's constant blabbering about it but she was quite sure that that's not how magic worked. Wouldn't that mean nothing but the blood should have changed? How come did something so… different from the red vampires was what rose? And if magic was involved how come none of them was the slightest affected by it?
-Well… Magni thought it would be interestin' to add a few features to the spell. It was an experiment to begin with so Idunn and I went with it while creatin' it. Like seeing if we could integrate vervain in it to make me immune to it. There was also his wish to see if we could break the bind that kept vampires from enterin' houses uninvited. Get rid of the fangs to look more human…
-Because sparkling beneath the sun like a disco ball is so human.- Emmett couldn't help but add. He had a feeling that whatever was coming wasn't good.
Jasper's grimace told him so.
-That's… kind of a side efffect.
-Side effect?
-The spell was nothin' ever done before and creatin' spells of such level can be awfully tricky, so it took quite a while to develop it, but…
Jasper felt a sudden sense of nausea over what was coming next. Alice's encouragement did nothing at all to quell the sudden urge to hide in a hole and never come out.
-The village where Iddun and Magni lived found out 'bout Iddun's witchery and Magni's… unusual traits. Let's say humans have a serious problem with attackin' whatever they find different since the medieval times.
He didn't like this.
But he couldn't stop now either.
Even if he tried to keep it quiet Magni had a burning passion for spitting his sins before slaughtering those he loved. So the last thing Jasper felt from them were negative emotions. So that they could realize their death was no one's fault but Jasper's.
-They attacked. I'm no't sure of the how but one of the villagers claimed to have a dagger capable of killin' anythin', immortal and mortal, Magni wasn't there at the time and Idunn was doing an astral projection and by extension wasn't aware of what was happenin'.
He felt nauseous and if he focused hard enough he could almost feel his back burning. The oddly mismatched spiral on his back, it flared like flames from hell .
-I couldn't move her, so I shielded her with my own body, even as the man stabbed me.
He can still remember the feeling of that dagger piercing through his skin. How an odd fire had spread across his blood...
-I was immortal, I wouldn't die no matter how many times he stabbed me, but I was wrong, so so wrong. The man's claims on the dagger were true… 'cause I didn't heal at all.
And that realization had felt so liberating and at the same time so overwhelmingly terrifying. He couldn't heal, he was gonna die, he was free.
-I'd lost way too much blood by the time Iddun returned to her body, even more blood by the time Magni returned… I told 'em to not do it, the spell was yet to be finished, lots of things were still incomplete, incomplete magic means unstable magic, unstable magic means disastrous results. They refused to listen… A lot of things went wrong…
More than a lot. Everything in general had went wrong, the moment Magni fed him his blood, the moment Iddun casted the spell.
Fire had consumed him. He can remember as fire had replaced his blood and decimated each atom in his being to ashes. Spiked worms twisting inside every organ and bone, molten lava tearing apart his muscles and searing his veins with such unfathomable fire it had been as if a solar explosion had gone off inside his chest and spread across his entire body like a poisonous tsunami of absolute agony.
It had felt like being flayed alive, skinned from the inside out as his brain threatened to split open and destroy any rational thought he had ever had.
Jasper as a newborn had had little to none control over his impulses. He had killed whoever he came across. Wanting to shut them up. The emotions. The heartbeat. The blood. It drove him insane how loud the world was. How the slightest thing could make him go rampage.
But not even that compared to the actual nightmare that he was in when he first woke up.
The agonizing fire that made him wish for hell itself.
The fire of course stopped at some point, but not the wildfire in his throat.
The world had been on fire and knives had been dragging across his skin. Splitting his flesh open and making him feel as if he would go mad over the deafening sensations. Fire fire fire. Knives drilling into his skin. Something had been so even more deafening.
He had seen red and he had wanted nothing more but for the world to shut up. And when it came close…
He attacked.
It wasn't until it shut up that he saw the face of who he had shut. Idunn. That… didn't end well.
-I don't know if it was 'cause of my gift or 'cause of havin' been subjected to such unstable spell, or if it was just the general torture for becomin' somethin' like that. But when I woke up it had felt like I was on fire in a world too loud. Like knives draggin' across my skin… I gave him the scar on his face and... I killed his wife… I tore her heart out… I don't know how, it might have been a spell or somethin' but… she was pregnant.
His voice broke at the end but he refused to give in. Refused to focus on the emotions in the air. He needed to finish what he started. He needed them to know the full extent of what Magni was willing to do. What he had done over his own selfish desires .
-The Icelandic coven were one of the first people I ever turned. Magni found me and by extension found out that I'd grown attached to two of 'em, so he set fire to the village and set the attackers on Astrid and Sif with hopes of gettin' 'em killed. He almost succeeded at killin' their daughter who's barely old enough to not be considered an immortal child, I turned 'em by request of the parents, and I got a red vampire to make 'em forget me.
The flashes of their faces made him bite his tongue. Focus.
-He killed a child I found in the streets of Ireland. Left his head on a spike in the middle of town.
He can remember the blood dripping down. Drip. Drip. Drip. The vacant look and the dried tracks of tears. That feeling of overwhelming emptiness…
-He also killed a witch from London I'd befriended. And her entire family who I never even met.
Fire. Blood. Screams. Focus.
-He killed a guy in Egypt.
D̸̸̸r̸̸̸i̸̸̸p̸̸̸.̸̸̸ D̸̸̸r̸̸̸i̸̸̸p̸̸̸.̸̸̸ D̸̸̸r̸̸̸i̸̸̸p̸̸̸.̸̸̸ Focus.
-Another one in Greece.
Windows exploding. Wood crumbling. Firefirefire. Screams. Focus.
-A woman I met in Texas…
"T̸h̸i̸s̸ i̸s̸ n̸o̸t̸ y̸o̸u̸r̸ f̸a̸u̸l̸t̸.̸" Lies. Of course it was.
-Whenever he finds me he kills those I show the slightest care for and anyone they ever held dear, it doesn't matter if I never met said people, he has set fire to entire villages, towns, slaughtered entire families of people I never met… You ask how far he is willin' to go… he knows no limit. He will kill anyone regardless of their age or state, he doesn't care 'bout anythin' but makin' sure I don't have what I took from him.
Jasper had thrown himself at Malivore to make Magni forget him.
But also to save people from himself.
If no one remembered him no one would get hurt. If no one remembered him Jasper could also forget and act like those sins didn't exist.
Like he was a regular vampire who had never in his life committed atrocities.
He didn't wait for their reactions nor paid attention to their emotions. He needed to get out before he crumbled. Before he suffocated. He needed air. He needed- He needed to run before he broke down, he didn't deserve to feel bad, he deserved whatever Magni threw at him and so much more.
And no one deserved to be dragged into it.
Not again.
Thus, he left.
