Total Eclipse of the Heart

OK so I'm trying to figure out how to keep true to my original idea of a Claire/Milo romance though I may wind up changing the summery since I feel it might be more about the drug story arch

She was busy in the kitchen humming when he got up.

"Someone is in a chipper mood this morning."

She nodded.

"I take it the date went well."

"It was the best date I've been to in forever, I mean I don't know when the last time was that I had the prospect of a second date."

"Second date that well huh, so what about the friends."

"They were interesting to say the least I mean they were so totally in love with each other I think it took Milo and me to push them together."

Kyle just nodded.

"So, what did you do if I may ask?"

Claire smiled swigging back a cup of OJ and smiled beginning to retell the tale of her magical night to her friend.

--

Meanwhile Across town:

"So she actually told me she loved me can you believe it," Spinelli was saying to Milo over the phone.

"She did."

"Yea I mean can you believe she said that she loved the Jackal I mean really loved the Jackal."

"Why not you're a great person."

"You know you don't have to say that."

"But it's true...anyway did you kiss."

"No, but we did plan to go out on a date together in the near future."

"Good for you man."

"So enough about me, how was Claire."

"Claire was great; I think I too may be out of the dating game soon."

From his place at the penthouse Spinelli was grinning as Milo's phone beeped. Upon hearing the beep on the opposite end as well Spinelli spoke up.

"Was that your phone or mine?"

Milo looked at the caller ID and rolled his eyes.

"It was me; I'll have to call you back."

"Alright, and when you do let me know about that business proposition you had for me."

"I will."

--

Clicking off of his conversation with Spinelli he flipped to the incoming call.

"I thought you were going to call me," Matt Hunter said.

"Sorry, I forgot...anyway what did you get."

"I think I've gotten a major lead."

"What is it?"

"I can't talk now but it's back at my place."

"So when can I see it."

"Well I just started a shift at the hospital followed immediately by one at the clinic which was why I was hoping to show you last night."

"What about Tomorrow."

"Tomorrow could work."

-

While at the hospital on the phone Nadine was listening into Matt's end of the conversation. To her she had a feeling that Matt was the one responsible for the illegal drugs and she didn't like it one bit after all the hospital had already been sabotaged last summer by the hands of her little sister and she really didn't want to see it happen again. Her biggest fear would be that her colleagues would eventually turn on her and use her as a scapegoat because of her unsavory past.

"So Matt has something in his room," she thought knowing that she had tried to snoop in his room before with negative results however nothing hurt to try again.

-

Nadine wasn't the only one eavesdropping however. On the docks where Milo stood Jerry Jacks was waiting in the shadows. He was working with Karpov to run drugs through General Hospital and with Ian Devlin before that. Jerry shook his head as he watched Sonny's guard who was getting too close to knowing the truth. Pulling out his gun an evil grin spread across his face as he aimed and pulled the trigger.

--

Milo didn't know it was coming. One minute he was about to call back Spinelli and the next guns flared. Pulling out his own gun from his holster he was about to shoot back when suddenly the pain of a bullet hitting his shoulder brought him in pain. The next thing he knew another one hit him in the back of the leg and he collapsed.

Jerry watched and shook his head. Milo wasn't dead which was his plan. All he wanted was for him to be paralyzed for a bit. Give him enough time to warn Karpov about people getting close.

--

As Jerry walked away from the scene grin on his face Milo was on the ground in pain. In the sudden impact of it all he had dropped his cell and it was unreachable at the moment. It was then a thought coursed through his mind. What if this was it that he wasn't meant to be happy but die before things got too seriously.

His eyes must of closed for a bit cause when they were open once more he spotted Sam McCall hovered over him cell phone pressed in her ear.

"Yes it looks like he was shot twice once in the shoulder and once in the leg."

"Sam,' Milo muttered wondering what brought the petite brunette over to the where house district on this particular Saturday afternoon.

"It's alright the ambulance is on its way."

"Was an ambulance necessary?"

"I don't want you to put pressure on the leg, if you break it I'll never stop hating myself."

Milo nodded.

"Anyway did you see who did it?"

"Lucky for them I was distracted by my cell phone, unlucky for me."

Sam nodded picking up the cell now and looking at the call log. After wincing a bit at the notion of him talking to Matt she smiled seeing Spinelli's name.

"So how was he last night?"

"You mean Damian."

"Damian..."

Milo nodded as the faint sounds of sirens filled the air in the distance.

--

Back at General Hospital Claire entered to start her shift. As she passed the hub the looks of some of the Dr's and nurses made her self aware.

"So," Leyla said, "I heard you had a date the other night."

"Did Kyle tell the whole staff about it?"

Leyla simply laughed.

"What can I say," Kyle said rounding the corner, "it was a slow night and gossip is like crack to these people."

"You did not just say crack," Claire said as the phone rang.

Leyla picked up the phone.

"Multiple gun shot wounds..."

Elizabeth listened from the distance rolling her eyes silently praying it wasn't Jason or Lucky or even Spinelli being rolled in however when the elevator opened and she spotted Sam her heart sunk a bit.

"Sam," Elizabeth said looking over at the gurney feeling somewhat relieved that Milo was there and not Lucky.

"I found him lying on the ground, according to him he wasn't shot too long before I found him."

Elizabeth nodded and looked over at Claire not knowing Milo was her date the other night.

"Dr. Simpson can you help me."

Claire nodded. Though it wasn't the norm for a nurse to order a doctor around Claire was still technically an intern and Nurse Webber held seniority anyways.

As Claire got close to the patient she spotted Milo.

"Hi Claire," he said smiling his killer smile which under normal circumstances would of made her weak in the knees instead she froze. As Kyle came into view he saw Claire and looked at Elizabeth.

"I'll help."

"Thank you Dr. Julian."

Kyle looked from Claire to the patient and then wheeled him into a room to be checked out.

-

Heading to the on call room she rolled her eyes thinking it was too good to be true when Leyla sat down next to her. She didn't know the nurse well, heck she really didn't know any of her other co-workers that well except for Kyle at the moment.

"Claire was Mr. Giambetti that date of yours."

Claire nodded.

"Well then you should have known it was an occupational hazard."

"E-excuse me."

"Well though Milo Giambetti is sweet and utterly attractive."

"Gosh tell me something I don't already know."

"Well his career choice leave much to be desired."

"You know what he does, because he didn't tell me."

"Well Milo Giambetti is a bodyguard for..."

Leyla paused and lowered her voice to a whisper even though it was clear that she and Claire were the only two in the room at the moment.

"A bodyguard for Sonny Corinthos."

"Sonny Corinthos as in mobster," Claire said rather loudly before pausing and lowering her voice to match that of Leyla, "Sonny Corinthos as in mobster."

Leyla simply nodded.

"Just my luck, I meet a guy who doesn't come off as a complete ass and he's in the mob, of course."

"He's still a nice guy."

Claire just nodded wondering what being a mob boss or rather former mob boss's bodyguard entailed besides getting shot up like Swiss cheese.

--

He was now in a cubical getting the bullets removed.

He was told he was grateful that the bullets didn't mar any vital organs and that all he would need was a cast on his leg for a bit as the shot to the arm was more like a graze.

He nodded as Nadine Crowell and Matt Hunter then entered arguing about something.

"I don't think he needs to be prescribed pain pills."

"And this is why I'm the doctor and you're the nurse," Matt said looking at Milo giving him a look like they shared some unwritten secret.

Nadine caught the look and though this was getting curiouser and curiouser by the minute and she was going to get to the bottom of it sooner or later.
