Total Eclipse of the Heart

OK first I want to say this story is getting bigger then I ever dreamed of and I have numerous ideas planed. Also I am just on a high because not only did I get a Kyle/Claire fix but Madine, Spinelli AND Milo was on today!! Anyway I hope you like my twists and turns…

--

1 Hour later…

Spinelli, Maxie, Nadine, and Lucas made their way into General Hospital finally. They had decided that after leaving the PCPD they would take some time to go their own ways to refresh themselves as they couldn't believe they spent practically a while Friday sitting at Kelly's trying to solve a mystery.

Epiphany spotted them as they approached the hub and rolled her eye in spotting the motley crew.

"Nurse Crowell is there a reason that you are here when you're not on the schedule."

Spinelli raised his hand.

"The Jackal can answer that."

Epiphany rolled her eyes once more.

"Do I even want to know?"

Maxie nodded.

"I think you do, it has to do with who killed your son."

"Stanford, I thought you said the case ran cold."

"It did but recently information came up that pointed me to who killed him, or at the very least who hired the hit."

"Who…"

Before Spinelli could answer that the phone rang and Leyla picked up the phone. Looking at the group as she listened to the EMT. Putting down the phone moments later she looked at Epiphany.

"What is it Nurse Mir."

"Big Explosion at a where house downtown."

Spinelli bit his lip hoping that he didn't lead his friends into a death trap; he'd never forgive himself if he did.

"Five people, three of them are on staff here."

Spinelli's heart sunk as his fears were confirmed.

--

Meanwhile an hour ago….

He blinked his eyes assessing what was around him. He saw bodies lying under the rubble hoping to find the familiar blonde who was his best friend, if Kyle lost her he didn't know what he'd do.

"Claire," he weakly said before noticing the glint of a cell phone on the ground within his reach. He mentally prayed that he could get some kind of reception. Able to dial 9-1-1 he told the dispatcher about the predicament he was in and mentioned the fact that he along with Claire and Matt were employees at GH hoping that this would get the EMT's to get there faster.

Hanging up he let out a cough. He could move but as a medical intern he knew any unnecessary movement wasn't a good idea and that by playing the hero was out of the question so he just waited and prayed.

--

"I'll scrub in," Nadine said as she made her way toward the locker room. Meanwhile Spinelli made his way over to the waiting area and slumped on a chair.

"It's all my fault," he muttered as Maxie sat beside him and placed her arm around him.

"It's not your fault Spin you didn't know it was a trap."

"But Maximista if I had only known it was the unhinged one…."

"But you didn't," Lucas said, "So don't blame yourself."

He smiled at his girlfriends cousin and mouthed a 'thanks' to him as he continued to slump.

It was then that the elevators flew open and the EMT's wheeled the group in.

"Come on Spin," Maxie said, "let's go into the chapel and pray for a bit."

Spinelli nodded and headed into the chapel as he listened to the medical jargon being shouted not being able to make heads or tails of it. He wondered if that was how people were when he talked in Jackal-ease.

--

"L-Lucas," Kyle muttered upon seeing his new boyfriend sitting in the lobby.

"Kyle, are you alright."

"I think I'm one of the lucky ones, I was the one who called."

It was then a doctor headed over to where the man was lying.

"Kyle," he said, "I heard there was an explosion I didn't think it was you….how were you involved."

"Claire was kidnapped…" he muttered as Leo noticed the frail blonde lying unconscious on one of the other gurneys.

"Well I'm glad you're alright brother, as much as we argue your still family."

Kyle smiled as he began to cough again.

Leo looked over at Lucas and smiled.

"You must be my brother's new boyfriend."

Lucas grinned.

"Guilty as charged, Lucas Spencer."

Leo shook his hand.

"Leo Julian, say your not Bobbie Spencer's son are you."

"Again guilty," he said grinning happy that someone knew who his mother was.

Before anything else was said however Leo was paged to help out and Kyle was wheeled into being checked over.

--

In the chapel now Maxie held Spinelli's hand as they prayed in silence for a moment before she looked at him.

"What's wrong Maximista?"

"Max…we should call him to tell him about his brother."

Spinelli bit his lip. It never occurred to him to call the elder protector of the night to tell him about the accident.

"The Jackal will get right on that," Spinelli said stepping out of the chapel and into an area where cell phone use was aloud.

--

Meanwhile in the ER there was a hustle and bustle of doctors and nurses trying to make sure the five victims got the best possible care and with Kyle the only conscious one at the moment it wasn't looking too promising at the moment.

Jerry Jacks seemed to be the worst off and the need to call his brother was imperative as was the need to see if Claire and Matt had any relatives just in case anything was to happen to them.

--

Nadine entered the cubical where Matt was lying hooked up to ventilators still unconscious.

"Matt," she said in her sweet voice stroking his cold and scraped hand, "You can't die, not before I can tell you that...that...well...your just going to have to wake up for me to continue. Man when Aunt Raylene said you don't know what you have till it's gone she wasn't kidding."

She let out a small laugh as she checked on his vitals and looked at his chart. No next of kin listed, his mother was deceased and his father was non existent...she knew this was a job for the Jackal she just hoped he wasn't too shook up still.

--

Spinelli stood in a cell phone friendly area and dialed and dialed a number.

"Hello," a voice said from the other end of the line.

"Max, this is Spinelli."

"Hey Spinelli, Milo isn't here."

"I know," the young man paused, "that's why I'm calling, Milo is in the hospital."

"Again, doesn't the kid know he's not superman. It wasn't another shooting was it?"

"No, explosion."

"You mean the one at Karpov's where house."

"Yes."

"So then I take it the explosion wasn't Jason or Sonny's doings."

"Nope, Jerry Jacks's I would assume."

"So how is he...my brother not Jerry?"

"Obviously, anyway I don't know, I'm not family."

"Well then I'll be there as soon as I can."

"I'll be waiting."

Handing up he spotted Nadine standing in the corner still scrubbed up.

"Noble Nurse Nadine how is everything."

"Matt is still unconscious I don't know about the others."

Spinelli nodded.

"Speaking of Matt I need your help."

"Help with what."

"He has a gap in his records; there is no father listed do you think you could."

"Jackal it."

Nadine nodded.

"I'll get to work on it as soon as I can."

She smiled thanking him as she headed back to check on things.

--

Some time had passed and Jax busted into the area. Lucas, Spinelli, and Maxie were all sitting vigil now as nothing more was being told to them seeing as they were not family. Speaking of families Spinelli had not yet gotten to the task Nadine asked him to do. It wasn't because he disliked Matt, well anymore. After all this he quickly was warming up to the resident especially now that he knew that he wasn't the bad guy.

"How's jerry," they heard Jax ask as he headed to the hub.

"I'm so sorry," Leyla said, "he didn't make it."

"No," he said as he teared up a bit. Despite how evil Jerry was he still was his brother and they had an unconditional bond.

The petite brunette placed her pale hand on the man's and gave him an apologetic look.

"I can take you to him if you want, he hasn't been moved to the morgue as of yet, we were waiting for you to make arrangements."

He nodded and followed Leyla to his room.

The trio looked at each other and gave each other quiet glances. They wanted Jerry to get what was coming to them by way of the justice system they didn't want to wish death on him no matter how evil he was.

--

Down the hall her eyes fluttered open and she noticed a bright light.

"Ouch," she said in a weak voice.

"And she wakes," Kyle said, "I was thinking I was going to have to kiss you to wake you up."

"K-Kyle...where am I."

"Your at General, everything is going to be alright Claire."

He began to stoke her blonde hair causing her to smile.

"What happened, the last thing I remember is that Milo and you and Dr. Hunter showed up at the where house and then...oh my god Milo where is he."

"He's here."

"He's alright...right."

"I don't know the last I heard he and Matt hadn't come to yet."

"What about you, you look alright."

"I was the lucky one, only suffered minor smoke inhalation and a few minor cuts."

Claire smiled when it suddenly hit her.

"Kyle...I can't feel my legs."

Kyle looked at his friend and roommate and he bit his lip. She had been through hell and back and the last thing she needed was to be paralyzed.

"Hold on, I'll get Dr. Drake."

Claire nodded and watched Kyle leave hoping that everything was going to be alright, for her and Milo's sake.

--

The elevator flew open now as Max spotted Spinelli and Maxie in the waiting area (Lucas by now was at Kyle's bedside) and ran to them.

"So, how is he?"

Spinelli shrugged.

"The doctors won't tell us as we are not his family."

Max nodded.

"You wouldn't by chance know about any of the others would you?"

"That we do," Spinelli said gently moving Maxie's head from his lap so that he could stand up to face the older man, "Julian Jr has minor smoke inhalation and a few scrapes to the legs and the Courageous Claire is paralyzed though we don't know if it's permanent or not. They think it was cause she was still tied up when the explosion happened so her spin was compromised."

Max nodded.

"Well I'm going to check on Milo."

Spinelli nodded.

"Tell me how he is ok."

Max nodded and headed to the hub to find out what room his brother was in. While Spinelli slumped back into a seat placing Maxie's head back in his lap.

"I hope everything is alright Maximista, I hope everything is alright."

--

As the night slowly shifted into dawn Milo and Matt still lay unconscious and their chances of survival were greatly depleting.

Nadine entered Matt's room dressed again in her street cloths as she sat by his bedside.

"Well I did all I could the rest is up to you Hunter, you got to pull through this. I promise to stop stalking you if you do."

She smiled knowing fully well he secretly enjoyed her stalking after all that was what lead to the day in the closet that changed their lives forever.

--

Max meanwhile was sitting by his brother's side now holding his hand.

"Milo, you need to wake up buddy," he said a tear coming from his eyes, "we Giambetti's we're survivors you know. You can't let a little something like an explosion get you down. Especially now that you got a great girl waiting for you."

Max smiled knowing that Claire Simpson was alive and well...despite her paralysis and that his baby brother was her savior.

--

As Saturday morning trickled on everyone remained on pins and needles waiting to see what was to come and hoping that everything would be alright.

TBC

I hope you all enjoyed. I'm not a medical professional so I hope I did this chapter justice. Anyway I plan for one of the M's to wake up next chapter and for one to have a coma dream. Also the truth about Matt's parental will pop up. As for the Kyle/Lucas plot, if Claire will walk again, and how the whole Jerry, Karpov, and Claudia stuff will go down I am still at a loss but can guarantee there will be lots of drama and fun in store so keep reading and reviewing.
