Total Eclipse of the Heart

Nadine had made her way up to Matt's room by now and stood in the doorway as Noah was looking at him. She wasn't close enough to hear but wondered why the elder neurosurgeon was watching him. She hoped he wasn't brain dead or something.

She suddenly watched as there was a movement in the bed and Matt opened his eyes.

"Dad," he muttered weakly as Nadine looked on in shock.

Noah looked over at the young man in the bed tears softly streaming down his face.

"I'm so sorry Mattie."

"Get out," Matt said, "now."

"But."

"No...I mean after all these years you think one accident is going to allow you to swoop back into my life."

"Well no...I mean I made a promise to your mother."

"Yes I am well aware; I got the checks...well until you were too drunk to send them."

"Well then how much do you want?"

"I want nothing...well maybe another doctor but..."

It was then he noticed Nadine looking on in shock.

"Are you spying on me Nurse Crowell?"

Nadine innocently smiled as she took a step into the room.

"No, I was checking up on you, I..."

She paused she didn't think she should be speaking those precious eight syllables in that moment.

"Well I'm fine."

"You were in an explosion, you were unconscious."

"But I'm fine."

She wondered why he was being so cold to her again when it hit her. The reason for his attitude was his daddy issues.

"I'll leave you two alone," Noah said.

"Please do."

As the older doctor left Matt's scowl morphed into a half smile.

"So now you know my secret," he said, "I'm Noah Drake's bastard son."

"And you knew all this time."

Matt nodded.

"But that wasn't the reason I came to this hospital, I chose General Hospital on my own."

Nadine nodded as she pointed to the chair in the corner of the room.

"May I."

Matt nodded as Nadine sat on the chair next to him.

"So...tell me about your childhood."

Matt rolled his eyes as she looked at him.

"Or I could tell you more about my life in Ohio with Aunt Raylene."

Matt let out a laugh.

"My childhood you say..."

--

Meanwhile back in the cafeteria Spinelli was making a similar revelation in regards to Matt's paternity.

"You're not going to believe this."

Spinelli turned the screen to Maxie whose jaw dropped.

"Please tell me I'm seeing things."

Spinelli shook his head.

"Nope Maximista's eyes are not playing any tricks this is the legal and binding birth certificate of one Matthew Randall Hunter and listed under paternal figure is one Dr. Noah Drake."

"I wonder if Patrick knows that Matt Hunter is his brother."

Spinelli shrugged.

"I think that if your cousin's counterpart knew of his younger sibling he would of mentioned it don't you think."

Maxie nodded.

"I guess, but I mean why keep it a secret."

Spinelli shrugged.

"Why not, I mean there has to be some logical reason."

"Perhaps...god Patrick is so going to freak when he hears about this."

Spinelli nodded in agreement.

--

Milo's eyes fluttered open as there was a momentary silence as he and Claire locked eyes.

"Milo," she said looking up from her wheelchair.

"Claire," he muttered, "thank god you're alright."

"I'll leave you two alone," Max said smiling at the young blonde as he along with Kyle exited the room.

"I could say the same about you...you scared me half to death."

"I'm sorry; I promise that I won't scare you again."

"So does this mean that you're getting out of the mob?"

"It's complicated."

"Why, because your father is the great Maximums Giambetti."

"How did you..."

"During that brief break I did some research, Spinelli isn't the only one who knows his way around the net."

A smile crossed Milo's face.

"Good I'm making you laugh."

Milo nodded.

"You're a doctor, don't you know it's the best medicine."

Milo nodded.

"Speaking of when will the good doctor be back to her work."

Claire let out a sigh...she knew that this was it, she needed to tell him sooner or later about her condition.

"About that," she said wheeling closer to the bed.

"Hey isn't the chair just a formality, come sit on the edge of the bed."

"I can't."

"What do you mean you can't?"

"I mean I can't get up to sit with you, the accident made me paralyzed Milo."

"No."

Claire nodded.

"I'm going to kill that Jerry Jacks."

"Too late, he's already dead."

Milo looked at her.

"Please tell me it was the blast..."

"It was the blast, don't worry none of your employers were involved."

Milo nodded.

"Anyway about you...is it permanent."

"We don't know yet."

"Well if you need therapy I'll be there for you every step of the way."

Claire nodded she had no doubt in her mind that he would. She looked into his deep brown eyes now and rested her head on his chest as he tangled his fingers in her blonde hair.

"The worst is over Claire, I hope."

She smiled as she picked up the remote and flipped the small TV to a classic movie station that was playing Wizard of Oz allowing her worries to wash away if only for a few brief hours.

--

Nadine began to laugh at some story Matt was telling her about when he was ten and his female cousin forced him to dress as a girl for Halloween.

"It's not funny Nadine."

"Yea it kind of is...I mean I would love to of seen you in a frilly pink dress...oh Halloween is slowly coming up."

He rolled his eyes at the thought of the impending holiday and re-living his night of embarrassment.

"No way Jose," Matt said as Nadine pouted.

"Don't do that please."

"Oh you know I'm going to get you to dress in drag now..."

It was then they were interrupted by a knock on the door.

"My dad told me you wanted to see me."

"Well he's a liar," he said watching Patrick Drake entering the room.

Nadine looked between the two men and instantly began to see the resemblance that was between them.

"I should go get ready for rounds."

Matt smiled at her as she left.

"I guess he told you huh," Matt said as Nadine left, "that I'm your baby brother."

Patrick stood in silence at this confession.

"I guess not, well whatever I don't want you to take pity on me. I mean it's clear where Noah's priorities are. Anyway as far as I'm concerned it's only blood nothing more."

Patrick didn't know how to respond to this as he continued to check the younger man's vitals.

--

"Knock knock," Lucas said in Kyle's doorway.

"You can't stay away can you Spencer."

Lucas shook his head.

"So anyway when do they spring you?"

"Well I am allowed to be discharged tomorrow however Leo is springing me late tonight when his shift is over seeing as I'm moving in with him."

"But what about the loft."

"Well I called a contractor and it's getting all wheelchair accessible..."

"So you don't think that Claire will walk again."

A tear fell down Kyle's cheek.

"I don't know."

Lucas placed his hand on Kyle's head.

"Why not move into the brownstone with me."

Kyle looked over at Lucas.

"Did the accident impair me more then I thought because I just thought you asked me to cohabitate with you."

Lucas smiled.

"I did."

"What about your mom."

"Please she'll be more then thrilled."

"Well then yes I'd like that."

Lucas smiled.

--

"Spinel this has been one crazy weekend.'

Spinelli let out a sigh.

"And to think Maximista it's not even over yet."

"Please don't say that. I mean no offence but all I want to do is to go home and relax in a nice relaxing bubble bath and curl up to some Audrey Hepburn."

His mind drifted to her dressed in nothing but a fuzzy pink robe with the sounds of Moon River echoing in the background before he was snapped back into reality.

"Well then that is what Maximista should do. Retreat to the home of the constant commissioner for some much needed R and R."

"Are you sure."

Spinelli nodded.

"It seems that we've done all we can here anyway and I was actually about to retire to Casa de Stone Cold myself."

Maxie smiled.

"Alright, well call me alright."

"Most defiantly Maximista."

She smiled as she stood up walking over to him to give him a quick kiss as she left.

He let out a small laugh of giddiness as h packed up his laptop and headed out as well.

--

"Well," Patrick said, "all things considered you have no permanent damage."

Matt nodded.

"That's a relief."

Patrick gave him a half smile.

"I still can't believe he did this...I mean just when I have the man figured out. You know I have a mind to..."

"Don't...Noah had his reasons and I've long learned to accept them."

"Well I hope you don't hold anything against me."

"Please save me the whole I want to make it up to you and be the reassuring older brother speech because I don't need a brother, at least not now."

"Well then would you settle for setting aside any professional qualms and try to be friends."

Matt let out a half smile and nodded a bit.

"It might be the drugs talking now but friends I think I may be able to do."

Patrick smiled as he left the room.

--

Their eyes must have closed during the movie because the next thing they knew Nadine entered the room looking at the happy couple.

"Good Evening guys," Nadine said a cheery tone to her voice, "Claire I'm so glad you are alright."

Claire smiled at the other blonde.

"So, any word on Matt."

"Lots of words."

"I think Claire means is he alright."

Nadine hesitated a bit thinking she almost spilled that Matt was Noah's son.

"Right that...Matt is fine."

Claire smiled glad to hear that.

"That's good, because I would have hated to see any unnecessary casualties due to me being in peril."

Nadine nodded as she looked over at them.

"Anyway Claire shouldn't you be back in your on room recovering."

She looked over at Milo not wanting to leave but knowing she needed to.

"Yes I should, but I can see Milo again later right."

"More like tomorrow but yea."

Claire smiled and gave him a wave goodbye before Nadine wheeled her out and back down the hall.

--

Spinelli arrived back to the Penthouse to see Jason already there.

"Please tell me you were not involved in the explosion at Karpov's where house."

The young hacker looked at his mentor and let out a sigh.

"Define involved."

"SPINELLI."

"Well not directly Stone Cold it's just the Caring Claire was captured and we...well not the Jackal himself but Milo, Matt Hunter and Dr. Kyle Julian headed to rescue her from the clutches

Of the Unhinged One."

"You mean Jerry."

Spinelli nodded.

"Yes, Jerry, the man who took the Metro Court Hostage, who assisted in the shooting of the little dude, who..."

"Wait go back."

"Yes it came to the Jackal's attention while looking for a connection between Karpov and the whole drug ring that Jerry Jacks was the one who hired Ian Devlin to shoot Mr. Corinthos sir."

Spinelli purposely didn't mention the Vixenella's involvement as he kind of liked the dark goddess.

Jason made a movement to his closet where he kept his gun.

"What is Stone Cold doing?"

"I'm going to pay Jerry a visit."

"Well unless you are the guy from that one show who can wake the dead with your touch I don't think your going to get anything out of the man."

"Jerry is dead."

"As a doornail."

Jason nodded knowing that despite the fact that Jerry was dead he had lots of work ahead of him and so he headed back out toward his office leaving Spinelli alone in the apartment to bask in the peace and quiet which he knew would be temporary as although Jerry was dead there was still a long road to recovery for his friends not to mention the drug scheme which had still yet to be broken up.

TBC

Alright I have a few ideas for this but I am at a loss on where to go next as far as plot. I most likely will skip a few days but after that well I guess the muse is still having sequence issues. I would like to thank all my loyal readers as it's you guys that keep me going.
