Total Eclipse of the Heart
A day turned to a week which in turn became the day before the big one, the day of the infamous bachelor and baccalaureate parties.
At the penthouse Maxie and Spinelli were sitting down on Jason's couch sharing what had become a rare moment together. You see though Spinelli was out of the business for the most part he was seeking out greener pastures and was getting ready to embark on a new and totally legal job working for the Valkyrie and her White Knight as a part of the Hotel Security team as well as freelancing still as Jackal PI. Maxie meanwhile was tied up with the magazine and wedding plans.
Her legs rested on his lap as he gently was massaging her bare feet as a smile crossed her face.
"I can't believe its tomorrow already."
Spinelli nodded as Maxie looked at him with curious eyes.
"You're not your usual talkative self today."
"I'm simply savoring the moment Maximista, besides I'm just thinking about the after party."
"After party, you mean stripper fest 08 right, I mean I seriously can't believe Patrick agreed to let Matt plan a party for him, I mean sure he's dating that nurse now but old dogs...new tricks..."
Spinelli nodded trying not to laugh.
"I know the saying Maximista which in looking at both yourself as well as I the Jackal well...that saying has it's ways of being proven false."
She simply shook her head thinking of them both just over a year ago. He was a winy computer geek obsessed with Lulu Spencer while she was a total bitch.
"Anyway, I was referring to after the reception, it was supposed to be a birthday surprise but I got the Valkyrie to give us a suite for the evening and for you to receive a full day at the new spa the following day."
Maxie kicked her feet off his lap and leaned over and gave him a kiss thinking that was sweet.
"I wish I didn't have to go to Robin's party."
"Play hooky."
"I'm her cousin, her maid of honor, and her wedding planer."
Spinelli nodded as they spent a few more moments together.
"Just don't fall for any strippers named Candi or Mandi or..."
"I promise, you're the only girl in my heart Maximista."
--
Meanwhile across town at the brownstone Lucas and Kyle lived in the two men along with Claire and Milo were hanging out.
Claire walked across the room now without the aid of any crutch and made her way to the couch where she sat on Milo's lap.
"So Kyle, plan to go to the bachelor party tonight."
"Drunken co-workers and strippers are so not my scene, besides even if they were I'm on call."
"Besides," Lucas said, "Patrick and I really don't know each other that much and well there is an Audrey Hepburn marathon on Turner Classic."
Claire smiled thinking Pizza, a nice wine, and Breakfast at Tiffanies would be better then Robin's party.
It wasn't that she didn't like Robin; no it was quite the opposite. The nurse envied the drive the doctor had. The reason she didn't wish to go was that she too would have liked to of spent the evening curled up on the couch with the man she loved.
"I think we should be going," Milo said.
Kyle turned to the former guard and his face lit up.
"So going to the bachelor party Giambetti."
Milo let out a small laugh wondering if he should show up at Jakes for beer and strippers however he shook his head.
"What," Claire said, "you're not going, please tell me Sonny doesn't have you running one final shipment or something."
"Or something, Mercedes has a date with your brother in fact," Milo said referring to Carly's nanny while he pointed to Kyle.
"Leo said he was seeing someone, I in a million years wouldn't have suspected an au pair to the mob, I mean didn't her sister or cousin or something essentially get murdered cause...."
"I don't think Diego's intention was to strangle Leticia," Milo simply said before swallowing down saliva, "anyway so I have to baby-sit Morgan."
"So, do you regret trading a lap dance for guitar hero," Lucas asked.
Milo simply blushed making no comment as he reached for Claire's hand and headed out.
--
"So big brother getting cold feet,"
Patrick Drake stood in front of the hub and simply shook his head. Truth be told he was scared to death about being a husband and father. He wondered where he'd be if he still lived his life amongst fast cars and even faster woman. He bet he wouldn't be this happy.
PAGEING DR. PATRICK DRAKE
"I need to get that."
Matt nodded.
"Well as long as you're at Jake's in about an hour and a half."
Patrick mock saluted his brother and they went there own ways.
However just moments later there was another page.
DR. MATT HUNTER
Matt made his way to where he was called only to spot some blonde nursing student smiling at him.
"Dr. Hunter," she said as she handed him a piece of paper.
Looking it over he grimaced wondering why Patrick would pass up his bachelor party in favor of performing surgery...oh well, at least it wasn't' the actual wedding."
--
Maxie made her way toward the small apartment wondering how two grown adults could live there yet alone a newborn.
She didn't have to knock as Nadine greeted her with a friendly smile.
"Hey Maxie."
"Hey," Maxie replied as she looked around the room looking at the faces of the attendees of the party. There was herself of course as well as Nadine. Dr's Lainey Winters and Kelly Lee were in the corner as was Nurse Leyla Mir.
Robin entered the room from the bedroom now and smiled at her cousin.
"Ok, so I take it this isn't the traditional baccalaureate party."
Maxie smiled.
"Well, it's hard to go with traditions when you are just weeks from popping out your first born Robin."
The doctor nodded.
"So, I thought since we couldn't get champagne and chip and dale dancers why not make it a baby shower as well as a wedding party."
Robins face lit up as Maxie handed her a bag.
"Anyway I know I just got her but I passed Wyndoms on the way here and I just had to...."
Opening the bag Robin pulled out a small jewelry box containing a silver locket.
"I figured you could keep a picture of your baby or a lock of her hair or something in it when she's born and you can totally wear it as your something new."
Robin smiled hugging the young woman.
"Thanks Maxie."
The blonde then clapped her hands.
"Alright, so now we should..."
--
They were alone now as the smell of pepperoni and the sounds of Moon River began to fill the air.
"Man this so beats naked woman gyrating on the pool table at Jake's," Kyle said taking a sip of his wine.
Lucas however shrugged.
"What are you thinking about Lucas?"
"Nothing, it's just..."
"Your curious...go on...admit it."
"No, of coarse not, now male strippers I'd say bring it but unfortunately Maxie decided not to hire any cause of Robin's condition."
"Understandable, anyway so why the long face....don't worry My Fair Lady is next and I know that's your favorite."
"That's good news though I was just thinking that we are really missing something."
"What, candles, a roaring fire."
"Dessert."
Kyle's face flushed red as his mouth curved to a smile.
"Ye of little faith," he said standing up and heading toward the fridge to procure a carton of mint chip ice cream.
"I love you Kyle."
"I know."
--
Spinelli was sitting at Jake's chatting to Coleman now about nothing in particular as Matt entered the bar.
"Greetings brother of the groom."
"Hey Spin."
"So," Spinelli said looking around noticing that no other guests were there, "is this a private party or..."
"I guess it is," Matt said shrugging as he took a seat next to Spinelli, "I mean Leo is on a date with Mercedes so Milo has to watch Morgan Corinthos. Kyle and Lucas are having date night and the groom to be was called for emergency surgery which rather now then preempt the actual ceremony."
"S-so, the groom isn't coming."
Matt shook his head.
"And the entertainment."
"I called them off, thought I can always call them back if you want."
Spinelli shook his head.
"To tell you the truth, the Jackal was only engaging in the thought of being with ladies of the night as it's a tradition."
Matt nodded as an idea popped into his mind. Just because he and Spinelli were alone together didn't mean they couldn't engage in some kind of fun.
"Coleman," Matt said, "drinks for me and my friend here...my treat."
--
The party at Robin's place was in full swing and Maxie was highly enjoying playing hostess when she got lost in a thought.
"For the wedding night," Nadine's cheery voice spoke as she opened up a box containing a slinky black negligee.
"Nadine your full of surprises," another female voice, that of Sam McCall spoke out as the blonde blushed a bit, "Anyway Max I can picture his face when he sees you in that.
"Like she'd actually wear it," she heard Robin saying, "If I know Maxie she's going to step out of the bathroom in a trench coat and drop it revealing her birthday suit."
"Now THAT would drive Spinelli crazy," Sam said as the woman laughed and Maxie snapped back to reality, her face beginning to feel flushed.
"Ok, who wants cake?"
--
Claire decided that although she wanted to do something remotely normal and social she decided that Robin's party wasn't that interesting to her, besides she always did want to learn to play Guitar Hero however at the moment she was watching as Morgan and Milo were playing and laughing and it sort of warmed her heart a bit as she thought that as soon as she got back to the hospital to work she was going to set a path for her to be in pediatrics.
"So," Morgan said when they finished the song they were playing, "Milo does your girlfriend want to play."
Milo looked over to Claire who smiled.
"Alright," he said putting his arms around her as he adjusted her hands and body to hold the guitar just right.
"This is what you have to do...."
--
They had a couple of drinks at the bar before heading out. Before long they headed toward the mega plex and Matt clasped his hands with excitement.
"What has you so...giddy."
"There is a showing in fifteen minutes..."
"Fifteen minutes," Spinelli said looking up at the marquee to figure out what Matt wanted to see.
"High School Musical 3..."
"Senior Year, heck yea."
Spinelli was surprised to say the least.
"You know we'll probably be the oldest people there besides parents don't you."
"Your going to use this against me later aren't you."
Spinelli shook his head.
"Actually I rather like the High School Musical films, I find them rather refreshing."
Matt smiled as he headed toward the counter and purchased the tickets insisting to Spinelli that it was part of his duty as best man to do so. Not turning down a free movie, Spinelli insisted he paid for refreshments which Matt agreed.
As the film played on screen Spinelli became immersed in the tale of the East High crew's final semester when a scene caught his eye.
The films main characters of Troy and Gabriella were dancing on the schools roof in a beautiful musical number and Spinelli's mind drifted.
He and Maxie were outside at the Gazebo at Vista Pointe, the same place where she once told him that she regretted sleeping with him. The soft rumblings of thunder sounded in a distance though they didn't care...they began to dance like no one was watching even if there was no music. Suddenly the sky opened up and rain began to fall and their lips collided into a deep and passionate kiss.
The song ended and he snapped back to reality enjoying the film.
--
"So, how was the party," Maxie said hours later entering the penthouse as she planed to spend the evening there, making sure Spinelli wasn't hung over or anything.
"Well," Spinelli said as Maxie placed her hands on her hips.
"Candi or Mandi..."
"Maxie."
"What."
He shook his head.
"So party."
"Patrick got called into surgery and..."
"Typical Patrick...oh well he BETTER not blow tomorrow off cause I worked my but off and...well anyway so what did you and Matt do."
"Had a couple of drinks then caught a late showing of High School Musical 3."
"High School Musical 3."
Spinelli nodded.
"Matt has a thing for Kenny Ortega's choreography."
Maxie just nodded as she began to unbutton her jacket and fell back n the couch thinking that the following day would be a long one.
