I took a seat on one of the more sturdy looking boxes that littered out living room. We hadn't even bothered bringing much furniture along with us. We had a small couch, which was currently being occupied by my mother and father, and a coffee table. It's petty pointless to have furniture when you're never home.

In all of our houses, the living room has always been our room for discussing strategy and whatnot. Everyone was tense tonight and I figured that we'd be having a lot to talk about.

"You're mother and I were scouting an area just to the East of Forks," My father started. "we sensed an orc nearby, so we tracked it down. When we got to the point where we could see it, it suddenly disappeared, however. It was just about the strangest thing I've seen one of those creatures do." My mother nodded, as if verifying his statement.

My brother stepped forward, signaling his speaking next.

"I was scouting south of La Push. I came across three orcs. S'more than any of us have seen so far, I think. I took 'em all out easily, though." He finished easily. Everyone turned to me.

"Well, when I was in the La Push area, I tracked down an orc. It turned out that instead of only being one or two, there were about six. I killed four of them off. One of the remaining two nicked my shoulder. Something else in the forest caught their attention and scared them off. Then some random guy found me and took me to his house. His wife, Emily, helped me with my shoulder. The boy who dropped me off was Embry, one of Sam's friends who showed up. They all seemed nice enough, but they've raised my suspicions. I don't think they're all human."

My father let out an exasperated sigh, running his hand through his hair.

"This isn't good for us. It seems as if these orcs are more advanced than what we've faced in the past. They may be growing more intelligent. They seem to have gained new abilities, and may be starting to form groups or packs. I'm going to have to inform the Order about this. Maybe they'll have some idea to help us out." We sat in silence for a few minutes, mulling over this information.

"Ah, dad. I know this is going to seem a bit trivial at the moment, but Emily and Sam are having some sort of get-together sometimes soon. She invited me to come along. Of course, this is still pertaining to our job. I want to figure out if they're human or not." I explained. I didn't yet know whether or not I really wanted to go to this. I did want to figure out what they are, but I was a little weary of doing so. Curiosity did kill the cat, after all.

"Right. That's fine." He said. "What we should be focusing on now should be finding all of our nonhuman friends. The orcs will be primarily zoning in on them, after all." We all nodded in response. "Alright. We'll be patrolling the area every night. Ander, you and August will patrol the La Push area, and Marilyn and I will take the Forks area." We each nodded.

"Well, if that's all we gotta talk about, then I'm going to sleep." Ander stated, already making his way down the hallway, toward his room. I nodded and yawned, stretching my arms out and over my head.

"Me too. Good night Mom, Dad."

As soon as I reached my room I jumped on my bed, not even bothering to change out of my clothes. I stole a glance at the digital clock I had set on a box containing my belongings. It read 12:27 am. I groaned, rolled over, and within a few seconds I'd drifted off to sleep.

"August Rose Wyndle! Do you know what time it is?!" I heard my mother yell from behind my door. I rolled onto my stomach and shoved my head under my pillow, hoping to drown out the incoming noise. I heard my door open. "August! You've slept for nearly thirteen hours! Get up you lazy sloth!" With that, she yanked the covers off of my bed.

"Moooom!!" I groaned in protest. I heard her walk out and close my door. She knew I'd get up now. Once someone pulls the covers off of me, I always get up. It's just one of those ever-interesting facts about me.

I sighed and rolled on my side so I could see the time. 12:46 pm. I know; twelve hours is a long time to sleep. But hey, I need my rest if I'm expected to function well enough to fight rabid monsters. I swung my legs over my bed and pushed myself up. I walked into the kitchen and made some cereal.

"Ah! My little sister decides to join the world of the living! Fantastic!" I rolled my eyes at my brother and continued eating my cereal. He sat down at the kitchen table, in front of me, a smile plastered on his face.

"What do you want?" I mumbled, my mouth full of half-chewed cereal. He grimaced.

"That's not very lady-like." He stated, receiving another roll of the eyes from me. "Well, we get to patrol together tonight!" He exclaimed happily. My brother is literally the biggest fag I know. When he's not in front of guys, he's always chipper and…well, gay. But, he swears he likes girls. I can't help but wonder, though.

"I know that, dummy. What time?" I asked.

"Eight to twelve." He stated simply. He reached to his right, grabbing a cookie of a plate.

"Where'd we get those?" I asked, having not noticed them before.

"Miss Clearwater. She lives a couple of streets down. Her daughter's hot."

"You say that about every girl." I retorted. I got up and brought my now empty bowl to the sink.

"Do not!" He whined, standing up as well. "Anyway, you need to call that Emily lady and ask her if I can come with you to her party." He said, picking up our cordless house phone , and handing it to me.

"You're not coming." I scoffed.

"What if you need my help?!" Plus, it's not fair that you get to make friends and I don't!" He pouted, actually looking like he was going to start crying.

"Fine, fine. Whatever dude. I'll ask. I hope she says no." I pulled out the small piece of paper Emily had written her phone number on from the back pocket of my jeans and punched the numbers into the phone. The phone rang a couple of times before it was answered.

"Hello?" She asked.

"Hi Emily! It's august." I said, cheerfully. I was hoping my voice no longer sounded groggy.

"Oh! Did you find out if you could come?" She asked eagerly.

"Yeah, I did. My parents said that it's fine. Actually, my older brother wanted to know if he could come as well." I eyed my brother. He still had a cheesy grin on his face.

"Of course he can!" She exclaimed. I laughed and nodded at my brother, letting him know she'd said yes. His smile grew even wider and he skipped out of the room.

"Emily, I actually wanted to ask you something else, too…"

"Go ahead." She said.

"Well, it's about that guy, Embry. He was kind of weird, you know? All of your friends aren't like that, are they?" I asked. I mean, I want to be prepared if I have to face a whole circus of weirdos. Her laugh rang in my ear.

"No," she started. "No, they're not all like that. Embry…He's shy. If you would, give him a second chance. He's actually very nice." I grinned.

"Well, that's a relief. And yeah, I guess I could give him another chance. As long as he' not some crazy stalker who watches me through my window, then it's fine." There was a pause.

"I'm pretty sure he's not." She laughed again.

"Alright. Well thank you for inviting my brother and I to this get-together thing. Speaking of which, when and where exactly is it?" I asked. I didn't happen to think of that before.

"Tomorrow at around twelve, if that's alright. It'll be at my house." She replied.

"Okay, okay. That's fine. I'll see you tomorrow, then!"

"Thank you, August." She giggled. "And I'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye."

"Bye!" I said cheerfully before ending the call.
