Okay, I've left this for way too long. Guess it's time to admit that I'm having loads of trouble, both attempting to write and attempting to deal with life. I suppose I'll make some attempt to write and if it fails, I'll just tell you all what was supposed to happen with the rest of the story.

Grev looked back into the depths of his memory and he remembered. It was days after his and Durc's first kills, when some minor comment brought Broud to strike his fellow hunter. The weather was fair and Durc moved like lightning as he packed a few weapons, a tent, and some food. And then, in the blink of an eye, he was gone, leaving his ramblings to his siblings, Uba's children, as the only clue as to which direction he fled. The half-breed, with is rather long legs, moved quickly through the woods and Grev only caught up with the other hunter long after the sun had set, after Durc was asleep.
When they woke up, Brac's younger brother tried with all of his might to convince his friend to return. Broud couldn't lead the Clan forever. Durc had to go back and continue to help Uba care for his siblings. The Clan had the option of forming a new group as soon as Uba's second daughter became a full-fledged medicine woman, for Clan traditions dictated that each clan should have one. If he'd just waited until that, he would have had the option of parting peacefully with Broud and the equally arrogant Brac. Nothing worked and when Grev presented his final argument, that one man could not possibly hope to survive alone long enough to reach his destination, Durc simply signaled to him that their breakfast, a few rabbits, was in sight.
And so, when the fully-fledged Clan man realized that his rash companion was not going to be dissuaded, he decided to accompany his friend and perhaps also settle with Ura's clan. The journey lasted countless blissful days with absolutely no bullying or teasing from Brac.
Each hunt, he remembered, was a success and provided anywhere between one meal and several says. Grev was a spear expert and Durc was the only man who could throw two stones from one sling. Alone, each was dangerous and together, they were lethal, and both men knew that. That went double for one of those last days, when they decided to attempt to bring a gift to the clan that they were soon about to join.
