Sealed Fate

Colette's PoV

The world is going to begin anew very soon, and I'm going to meet my end.

That's the way it's always been for a Chosen. Our fates are sealed from the moment we're born. We're honored by the people, but only because we will save them. We have power, but the choices we have are so limited. We all must give up our humanity in order to save our world, without fear, without regret, because it's our purpose for existing. That's the way it's always been. That's the way it always will be.

But before, I was scared.

I didn't want any of the honor or the power. I just wanted to be recognized for who I was. None of the other children in the village would come near me because they all thought I wasn't like them. Grandmother and all of the priests treated me like a sacred being that shouldn't be approached. I was lonely and I guess I closed myself in, caged in by four dark, cold walls with no way out.

Then I met you, Lloyd.

You didn't care that I was a Chosen, or a priestess, or anything like that. "You're you, and that's all that matters," you said. You were the door that led out of the dark room I was imprisoned in, my savior, my knight in shining red armor. You became friends with me, played with me, came on this journey to protect me, never thought different of me, and I can't thank you enough for that.

But even you can't save me from this fate.

I really don't want you to see this. I know that when you learn the truth, you'll try to stop it, try to find another way to settle things. But there is no other way, Lloyd. I know it's painful, but I want you to accept that, and to live on with your life with eternal happiness. I want you to go back to the way everything was before, the way you would show that kind smile to everyone and the way you would fall asleep in class and the way you would make everyone laugh. I want you to live your life exactly the same, except for me.

Because, if you're happy, then I'm happy too. And that's all that matters, right?
