Prelude

"Freeze!" I shouted.

His back was to me and he stilled. But even in the darkness, his stance was relaxed, as if I was no threat to him. Cocky bastard.

"We need to stop meeting this way detective," he turned around slowly, but I could see his body vibrating and those glowing eyes that always spelled trouble.

"You're under arrest Flash," I said with my gun pointed at his chest. "You even think about moving, I'll shoot."

"Tsk, detective, haven't you heard?" he said in that distorted voice he was known for. In a blink he appeared in front of me, "I'm the fastest man alive."

"Don't test me Flash," I unlocked the gun, my finger ready for the trigger. "It's time you face justice for your crimes."

"Crimes? But detective, I'm one of the good guys."

I glared openly at him, "No good guy has your track record. You're a criminal," if anything, this guy was a bad guy. A very bad guy I was determined to take down.

Maybe it was my imagination but I could've sworn he finally stopped moving his body only to show a disgusting smirk on his lips before he vibrated again.

"You wound me, Detective Snow," I heard the mocking laughter behind his voice, "I'll be a good boy, just for you."

Before I could say another word, I heard a gunshot behind me.

"Get away from her!" Eddie Thawne, my partner for the last two years, shouted and ran toward us.

"See ya' next time detective," I heard him say before he disappeared into the night.

"You okay Snow?"

I huffed, "I almost had him, Eddie!" This happened every time, and it was no less annoying.

"Yeah Eddie, thank you for saving my life from Central City's most wanted," he said annoyed, putting his gun away. "Oh, you're welcome Caitlin."

Classic Thawne move. He always felt he had to be the knight in shining armor…but I guess he was well-intended. "Fine, thank you," for interrupting my arrest.

"I've told you many times you shoot first and ask questions later when dealing with The Flash."

We walked back to the car, and I worked hard to suppress my annoyance at my partner. I get it. Flash was dangerous. Having theft and murder under his belt, the guy was clearly a menace, but we couldn't live in fear of him.

"Eddie, he's the fastest man alive. I wouldn't be able to land a shot on him without him noticing. Unless he was distracted and not expecting it," shooting aimlessly was pointless. Even when I did aim at him it made no difference.

"He didn't look that distracted to me," he said with that stupid smile he had whenever he made an inside joke.

I decided not to argue any further with him. He obviously didn't understand my tactics. I still question why Captain Singh decided to pair me up with him. Don't get me wrong I liked Eddie just fine. He was nice, and yes he is very attractive, I may or may not have had a slight crush on him when we first met. But now that I know him better, I just…well let's just say that he's like this big annoying big brother who thinks he knows better.

Finally some peace and quiet. It was past eleven and everyone at the station was gone. This was one of my favorite parts of the day. Just me, a good tea, (don't judge me, I'm not a coffee girl), and my files.

Field work was great and all, but the research was so fascinating. My subject, was just as fascinating, in an I-will-capture-this-society-menace kind of way, just to clarify. I stared intently at the best picture we had of Flash. It was basically a red blur with lightning in his eyes (no, I'm not kidding). I've been following The Flash for two years and was no closer to capturing him than when I started. I had never struggled so much to capture a criminal, meta-human or not. Yet, there was something about this guy that I just couldn't crack.

Not yet anyway.

"Detective?"

I heard a soft voice calling from a few feet away. I looked up from the screen and turned to the source of the voice, "Oh hi. I thought I was the only one here," thank God I hadn't blasted my music…yet.

"It's a bit late, shouldn't you be at home?"

"Right back at you Allen. Aren't CSI's only scheduled till eight?" I saw him shrug meekly and adjust the strap on his shoulder.

"I'm dedicated to my craft."

I believed him, every time I saw him he was busy doing something.

"If you don't mind me asking, why are you here so late?"

"I'm dedicated to my craft," I said back with a small smile. I saw him return my smile and only looked at me for a few seconds. I eyed my computer and then back at him. Fine, I guess I could read more about this guy at home anyway. Without another word, I shut the computer off and got up with my cup of tea in hand. "Come on Allen, I'll walk you to your car."

See Barry Allen was the complete opposite of my partner Eddie. He was a cute guy, the ones you see in the streets and immediately know they wouldn't hurt a fly. A gentleman, who didn't have a superhero complex. The ones you felt you had to protect. If I had a little brother, I imagine he would be something like Barry. Just nice and cute all around. Too precious for this world.

Except when he looks at dead bodies with the clinical eyes of a CSI. That just freaks me out.

"Shouldn't I walk you to your car?" He asked cocking his head to the side innocently.

See what I mean…too precious.

"I'm the one with the gun here."

Greetings dear readers!

Now if you're wondering why I've started yet another story when I haven't finished the rest...fear not they're all in progress and I have more chapters ready than the ones that you've seen published. For The Flash fandom at least [I apologize to anyone following my Smallville and X-Men multi-chapter stories, I haven't forgotten those].

This is probably the first time I write in first person and let me say that it's so difficult to capture things that I want to share but can't because technically the main character shouldn't be aware of them yet. So it's quite the experience, but I wanted to give myself a new challenge.

Beware, this one will be updated slowly mainly because I still change details that impact future chapters and then I have to go and correct those if I want the story to make sense.

Thank you for the support you've given me throughout the years, it really brightens my day.

Sending everyone virtual hugs,
Kim
