Simon is, in River's complicated, colored mind many different things. He es cold though he is kind. He is blue, a core-kid to the root, but he is also golden like the sun. He's a little bird inside a crocodile, it cries fake tears that are real. Amongst the mess of minds that live inside Serenity, River can always find Simon. He is her treasure, just as she is his.

When an Rogue Alliance Black ops unit led by Sam Marshall rescues River from the academy, he makes a promise to protect her from anyone who would hurt her. Now River, Sam and Simon now seek evade the Alliance and its allies. in order to that, they join up with the crew of Serenity after Sam helps Captain Mal with a recent job. But the crew is wary of Sam due to his past.

A series of one (and sometimes two, three, or four) shots set after Serenity. I do stick with canon up until Serenity (I haven't read the comic books, so it doesn't follow those). Mal and Inara are my favorite couple, so this mostly centers on them, their relationship, and their family, but other characters make appearances as well, including some of my own.

After a successful job, Mal is accosted by a couple who want him to save their son. Mal wants nothing more than to get out of there, until he finds out their son was once under his command back in the war. That got his loyalties, so he pays attention, until the other shoe drops: His ship was hit by Reavers.

Post BDM, Mal finds himself at a loss. Half his crew is gone and the sky seems a mite too lonesome for his taste. But maybe the return of his little Albatross can set things right again... Mal/River, with chapters for all the crew. Happy endings all around!
