Part: 2/100?
New update: I just wanted to say that things might seem odd and off time lined, but the issue with that is the fact that I have changed some things, and messed with the timeline.
Dr Cox and Jordan are seperated, so Jordan's not pregnant with their second kid. But this chapter states that Carla has had Izzy, and that she's still in the hospital, so that should put that into perspective.
100 Compliments
Compliment 99
Today had to be one of the best days of John Dorians life. Izzy had grabbed his finger for the first time, he was just coming back from seeing Carla in her hospital room. She had even given him her pudding cup.
Mmm, Pudding.
Dr Cox hadn't gone off on any rants that day, or insulted him, and it was amazing to be able to follow after the other without being yelled at.
Though it was really all his doing. Dr Cox had been keen to go off on him at first but J.D had kindly pointed out that if he was so interested in talking to him so much he could start giving him the other 99 compliments J.D was still owed.
In the end the doctor had simply stopped berating him to stop him constantly bringing up his inevitable fate.
Still, J.D could possibly get used to this.
"Here's the charts, Cindy..." Though the girl names had still persisted, but Dr Cox wouldn't be Dr Cox without the girl's names. Besides, J.D took the names as a sign of endearment, that Dr Cox, in some way, actually noticed him and cared, even if it's small, about him enough so to come up with all these nicknames for him. Still, he very much preferred "Newbie" over "Stacie" or "Cindy".
J.D followed after the man as he grabbed the chart from the others outstretched hand. He quickly flipped open the chart, glancing it over as he stopped before the end of the patient's bed beside his mentor. "Well, hello there, Mrs. Joel." J.D gave the old woman a smile as he finally flipped the chart closed again, to find the woman happily returning the juster. "I see your having some leg problems? It couldn't possibly be all that dancing your doing at the clubs now can it?" He winked, something that made the woman with a small chuckle behind her hand, her head tilted down just the slightest. She almost reminded J.D of that grandmother he had taken care of during his intern years...
"My, aren't we the joker." Mrs. Joel cooed before giving an exaggerated sigh. "But if only, sadly, I've been bedridden for quite sometime now."
"I see..." J.D muttered as he flipped the chart open to jot down just the slightest of notes before proceeding with a short examination of her legs. "Well, Mrs. Joel, I think it's just a slight inflammation of the tissue, nothing much, but I'd like you to stay here for a few days just for a few more tests. I could let you go, but you can't blame a guy for wanting to keep some a charming lady around."
There it was again, the small chuckle which was covered by a hand that she brought up to her mouth, hiding the smile he was certain showed there. J.D smiled back before turning and handing the clipboard back to Dr Cox, staring up at him with an almost hopeful look. One that didn't go unnoticed by the other.
"What?" Dr Cox huffed as he furrowed his brows, snatching the chart from the other. Not the greatest first word to be spoken in front of their patient.
"I believe you still owe me 99 compliments." He turned a glance onto Mrs. Joel, the woman having a look of confusion and curiosity on her face. J.D was all to happy to let her in on their bet as he leaned towards her, covering one side of his mouth as if to try and keep his words from Dr Cox, but his voice was anything but quiet. "See, Dr Cox here made a bet with me, one that he lost. But he's such a sore loser he's not holding up to his part of the deal."
J.D could feel Dr Cox's eyes narrow on him as the woman chuckled again turning gleaming eyes towards the doctor. "You cant be a welcher now, doctor. What's fair is fair." She stated, unable to withhold the smile that kept threatening to spill across her face.
He could tell the other doctor wasn't happy that J.D had gone and announced their business to someone, a patient of all things. But to his surprise the doctor didn't lash out at him. "This room is full of people that think you're funny."
Wait. Was that a legit compliment?
J.D felt a wide smile cross his face as he glanced between the patient and Dr Cox. "So you think-"
"Wait!" Dr Cox quickly pushed past J.D, turning and holding up his hands as he back-stepped out the door before justering in once more. "Now, the room is full of all the people that think you're funny."
The smile fell from his lips as he bit at the inside of his cheek, a slight pout on his lips as he attempted a glare that made him look just as childish as he acted "But now there's just one person, Mrs. Joel." He moved his hand to juster towards the patient, copying the other doctor's movements.
"No, Newbie, you're forgetting the most important person. You." He smirked as he gave a short wave his way, turning and heading off down the hall. It was only after he was out of sight that he called back with his last statement. "I do believe that makes it 98 compliments now!"
