Life in Rosewood went on.
Which was understandable since the drama that was Alison and A was now over for good; never to come about again.
I watched the girls of course, making sure that they had a happy future. While I had no direct influence over their lives, I could at least observe their lives now that they returned to normal. Well, normal without the terror of being harassed by those who would make them a living Hell. As much as I had wanted to share that future with them, I knew that I would just have to meet them when they passed on. Even though we had been enemies in life, we had become friends in death.
In the aftermath of what happened at Prom, the town was a buzz for months to come. In the days that followed that night, everything that had transpired because of the A affair had come out at long last. The girls had to hide in their houses as the press descended on the town and every last person who had been involved with Alison had been affected. Some used the fanfare to their own advantage like Jenna and Lucas while others just ran like Jason. All eyes were on Rosewood and everyone had their own agendas to pursue.
Alison's secrets were what really condemned her name in the history of the town. The blinding of Jenna Marshall, pushing the girl down the stairs at the frat party, and other bad things that she had done to other people had all come out. There was no one to hide the truth anymore and Alison wasn't around to spin her lies to make herself look good. All there was now was the n*** truth that she was a murderer and a liar; leaving only her victims in her wake. It was amusing to hear people try and explain her behavior with references to The Bad Seed being recalled by some at Rosewood High.
When the dust had settled, the name Alison DiLaurentis was synonymous with the Devil and her name was spoken with revulsion. Her remaining family, Kenneth and Jason, left town for different locations; selling every last trace the family had in Rosewood. It was rather sad for Kenneth and Jason, being connected with a psychopath who killed her own mother; they were decent people who shouldn't have had to leave though if they had taken better care with the blonde, maybe things would have been different. I would like to think that maybe, if Alison had been raised right, both our fates would have been different.
While the girls weren't exactly heroes in town, they weren't exactly treated as villains either. Granted, some the of the stuff that Alison had done linked them with her, especially the pranks and bullying; but given the stuff they had to deal with by A, they were granted a pass by the town thus were able to walk away. They had their scars though and none of them would ever forget the loss they had endured. When the fanfare had died off after months and the press withered away, the girls were able to focus on their futures.
Hanna was the first to leave town after getting an early acceptance from the University she had applied for. At first, it seemed that money would prevent her from attending since her father was unwilling to help with the tuition but my Mother had stepped in and financed a scholarship through the trust she had set up in my name. With her University paid in full, Hanna was able to leave that summer and Caleb left with her. They moved in together and he did all the work while Hanna focused on her schooling. During the summer breaks, their roles would reverse while Caleb did his schooling through an online college.
Eventually, they both received their degrees and found a way to create a business that they could share. Hanna had changed her career choice from fashion to business while Caleb focused on computer science; together, they opened an electronics store that soon grew into a small chain that branched out and even spread to Rosewood. They soon married and had a beautiful ceremony in Ravenswood where the girls got to be bridesmaids for with Emily as the Maid of Honor; Toby was Caleb's Best Man and helped set up the wedding. A place had been set for me next to Hanna with my picture displayed as a reminder of my sacrifice; I was touched.
Hanna ended up having twin daughters whom she named Mona, after me, and Ashley in honor of her mother. Both twins grew up under the loving care of their mother and father; allowing the mistakes of the past not to repeat itself. My namesake became quite intelligent and followed her father's footsteps in computer science while Ashley got into fashion. The family had no issues, other than usual drama for a family of four, and they were happy. I was glad that Hanna was able to get the family life she always wanted and happy that Caleb was able to be with her. With him by her side, both parents were able to enjoy having grandchildren and even got to see great-grandchildren until their end.
Spencer was the next one to leave town after getting accepted into UPenn for the fall semester. Using their daughter's fame to their advantage, it was her parents that managed to get their daughter into the school by milking the sympathy angle. After spending the summer with her friends as well as Toby, Spencer decided to rent her own apartment so that she could live away from town for a while. I would have assumed that she and Toby would have moved in together but she wanted to be on her own though they still remained a couple. Unbeknownst to only a select few, Spencer and Toby were engaged and promised to be wed once her schooling was complete.
While she attended school, Spencer took up law as was expected since it was the family career and she needed to placate her parents since they were footing the bill. As a secondary field of study, Spencer took up psychology and was quite good at it; even interning at Radley a couple of years after high school. Toby was at her side and eventually became a member of the State Police after Tanner put in a good word for him. When she graduated with her two degrees, they then moved in together into a small house in Philadelphia and Spencer took up a minor position in her mother's law firm. After the two were settled, they announced their graduation as well as the date of their wedding; having been planning it for a while now.
The wedding was a small event unlike Hanna's; also less flashy though her parents spent a bundle on it. Toby had offered to pay for the whole thing, which he had saved for over time, but Peter and Veronica were insistent; telling him that he could provide for the honeymoon. Caleb was the Best Man while Aria was chosen to be the Maid of Honor; which made sense Aria was the closest to Spencer out of the other girls. The ceremony was held at the Hastings's house and there was room since the DiLaurentis place was demolished with the lot up for sale. Once again, there was a spot reserved for me as well as my picture to symbolize my appearance; though at the end of the table which didn't bother me because it was still a nice gesture.
Sadly, I got to meet up with Spencer first due to a brain hemorrhage in her fifties though she still got to meet her grandchildren.
Aria stayed in Rosewood and lived in her parent's house all through college. Like Spencer and Toby, she secretly became engaged to Ezra and they extended it untill Aria was done with school. She ended up going to Hollis and decided to become a teacher; majoring in English which I didn't find that surprising in the least. During her time in school, she and Ezra made the most out of life; traveling to various spots in Europe. She supported him when he bought The Brew and helped him mold it in their image; a blend of a coffee house and a bookstore. It became quite popular and Ezra was easily able to support himself after paying off the business loans in no time; he even put a picture of me on the wall with a recommendation of The Count of Monte Christo.
Their wedding, while even smaller than Spencer's, was held the weekend after Aria graduated from Hollis. Ezra paid for the entire wedding and had even invited his parents after Aria forced a reconciliation of sorts. The ceremony was held outside of town in a little villa which was on the lake; something that was obviously expensive but Ezra could afford it because of his booming business. They had setup a place for me next to Mike; who had been Ezra's Best Man with Spencer acting as the Maid of Honor.
What few people knew at the time was that Aria was two months pregnant; which was the reason for the quick wedding. Given that they were expecting a child so soon, the issue of money to support it came up by Byron when he found out. Money wasn't an issue though because the newlyweds were well off financially. It turned out later than he had been collaborating with Aria on a Fiction Series inspired by the drama of A and Alison; of course getting permission from the other girls before proceeding. There was even a character inspired after me and started out as the villain before finding redemption; getting the happy ending that I should have had though the gesture was appreciated.
Aria and Ezra ended up having the most children of the group; a total of five which had surprised everyone.
After graduation, and a lot of talks about it, Emily moved to California with Paige, taking a gap year and working until she could join her at college the following year. Her parents helped out where they could, but Paige got a job as well to help cover the costs they accrued, working at an architectural firm, which tied in with her studies, and would give her the relevant work experience she would need once she finished her degree.
The night of Emily's graduation party, with all of their family and friends around them, Paige pulled out her grandmother's ring and asked Emily to spend the rest of forever with her. Emily spent the next day getting oriented working as an intern under another physical therapist in Philadelphia, Paige opened her own offices not long after. They married a year later in a small intimate ceremony with only close friends and family. Hanna stood as Emily's maid of honor and Caleb as Paige's best man. There wasn't room for me at the table but there was a small memorial set up with my picture for all to see; which was fine since this was Emily's and Paige's special day thus I was happy for them.
Three years later Paige gave birth to Joshua McCullers, and he was joined a year later when Emily gave birth to twins Aimee, and Lilly McCullers. They spent the rest of their days doing everything they could to give their kids everything they never had, and then spoiling their grandchildren. Joshua's wife had just given birth to their second great grandchild when Emily got sick and struggled to recover, Paige spent most of her days next to her hospital bed, holding her hand, and whenever Emily was lucid, Paige caught her up with what she had missed. She passed peacefully during the night, and Paige followed her a few hours later.
Mike, true to his promise, lived his life to the most that he could. He focused on his career in Lacrosse and was great in it all the way to college; where he unfortunately got seriously injured and blew out a knee. With sports out of the equation, Mike then went into counseling in order to help those who had emotional issues like he and myself. He was quite good at it and eventually opened a community center for young teens; with funding coming from the various people in order to help. He never married or even dated; which bothered me slightly, though I understood his feelings.
He was the last to die though of old age. He passed peacefully in his sleep; even beating out several of the girl's children. I waited for him and was there to greet him when he arrived. Though we never had the chance to enjoy our life on Earth together, we still had an eternity and would not waste it. Before His Throne in Heaven, we never leave each other's company and often visit the people we once knew. We are happy as husband and wife with our union recognized by all.
And that is that.
The End
