09 - rain

What had begun as a mild drizzle when they left the Barn had turned into a full blown rain. Not quite a storm, but close; the windshield had failed keeping up since five minutes ago. As his truck carefully cut through the rain, Sam couldn't help but spared half a second glance at his once again -official now- girlfriend whose excitement was practically radiating out of her. He knew she loved rain, but he also knew there's another reason as to why she's bouncing out of excitement.

"Good thing they finished installing the fireplace yesterday," Jules confirmed his guess minutes later, nose pressing against the cold window, her breath fogging the glass. All she could see from inside was smudged shapes.

"The fire's crackling, a mug of steaming chocolate, a hot cuddle buddy… what else could a girl hope for, right?" Sam teased.

Jules turned her head to look at him, eyebrows up. "Is that what we are now? Cuddle buddies?"

Sam gave a good-natured shrug. "We can be more than that tonight... as long as you don't mind the carpet burns, that is."

She hit his arm, sharing his laugh nonetheless. It wasn't long before Sam pulled over in the driveway, the house was a blurry building. He turned off the engine and unbuckled his seatbelt. "On three?"

Jules nodded. "On three."

"Three!"

She quickly opened her door and jumped out, getting instantly drenched even before her feet touched the ground. She should have immediately run and took cover, but for some reasons she paused. The rain triggered a lazy nostalgic feeling in her. It was so easy to pretend she was seven again, standing outside her parents' house in Medicine Hat when it was raining and simply enjoying the feeling of the rain pelting against her face.

"Jules?" Sam's voice asked, his tone raising so she could hear him. He pushed her bangs out of her face.

Jules opened her eyes, immediately meeting his eyes. She was standing in her driveway and yet she could still almost smell the pungent stench of livestock mixing with the smell of wet soil and mud.

"Where were you?" Hair matted down, the boyish smile she remembered fondly from his earlier days in SRU was on his face. Unlike the morbid sky, his eyes were deep soothing blue of the ocean.

She didn't answer, and it wasn't long until she saw a flicker of realization in his eyes. Of course he knew. There's nobody who knew her better than Sam.

"Your mom yelled at you to come inside the house yet?"

She scoffed, and poked at his chest. She was well aware of how his wet shirt was molding to the strong lines of his body. He easily caught her fist and pulled her to him, leaning down to give her a deep kiss. His arm went around her waist and when he dipped her back, just ever so slightly, it was enough to make her laugh into his mouth. She wondered if any of their neighbors were looking outside their windows now.

"So we're reenacting Hollywood movies now?" Jules crinkled her nose.

Sam grinned. "Gotta make sure that we're more than cuddle buddies."

It's been a while! I hope you're still reading this story. This chapter was just p-u-r-e fluff (like the rest hasn't been fluff, ha) to get me going after some writing hiatus. I hope you enjoyed xx
