13 - honeymoon

Hypothetically, you ever think of a honeymoon?
Love a honeymoon, hypothetically.
Alright, just promise me it's not daiquiris on the beach.
Extreme hiking, remote trails, no outhouses.
Nice, I like it!
Oh, you mean with you?

- A New Life

"Donna's spending the night at the hospital. Probably not how she envisioned her wedding night. I'm glad Hank will make a full recovery," Jules said absently, trying to make out the grainy pattern on the ceiling in the dark. "Can you imagine how she must have felt? I was glad she didn't pull the trigger, but I understood why she wanted to do it."

"I can, actually," Sam replied, his voice huskier than normal from the late hours. "It wasn't exactly a walk in the park when someone got shot three years ago."

Of course. She could still remember how ragged Sam's face had been when she finally opened her eyes. How despite the black bags under his red-rimmed eyes, his face had lightened up like nothing she'd ever seen before. How he couldn't stop murmuring 'thank God' while kissing the back of her hand.

"I don't even want to imagine what would've happened if Spike and I had been ten seconds late today." Sam continued. God, he hated rooftops. Hated, loathed, passionately disliked.

His voice had that haunting quality that made Jules abandon the patterns on the ceiling and look at him. "You got there just in time," she caressed his cheek, feeling the muscle twitch beneath her fingertips when he clenched his jaw. "I'm fine."

He knew she knew how to do her job and protect herself as well as he knew how upset she'd be if he tried to pull the overprotective boyfriend card. So he only shrugged. "Still."

Jules leaned over, replacing her fingers with her lips. His stubble pricked her skin even though he had shaved before bed. "Don't worry, Sam, I plan to stay around for a long time. I still have my honeymoon to look forward to anyway."

It had the desired effect. Even without looking at him she knew he was grinning. Sam shifted to lie on his side, suddenly sounding a bit more awake and less disheartened. "Yeah?"

You go, Callaghan, talking about honeymoon already. It's not like you're not breaking any rules or anything. Glad to see you have your priorities sorted. She had to bite the inside of her cheek to keep herself from grinning back. "Yeah, you know, walking in Paris, checking out the antique shops, eating some croissant in a cute little café while writing postcards for the team..."

Sam was silent for ten seconds. She could feel his frown. He shuffled closer to her and said, "What happened with the remote trails and extreme hiking?"

"Oh, you mean with you?"

Okay, I have been doing a re-watch and some scenes inspired me to write, so hopefully there are more updates soon. Thanks for the reviews, they motivate me to write xx
