Hey guys! Sorry for the late update, school has been killing me lately, and I've been hitting a writer's block for a little bit. But I'm back so without further a due, chapter 6 of Remembering the Rose!
"Well we were able to get her stabilized long enough to do some tests." The doctor and Yang were outside Ruby's hospital room discussing Ruby's test results, while Blake and Weiss were inside with the unconscious girl. Weiss had somehow managed to fall asleep next to Ruby's bed while holding her left hand gently. Blake looked up as Yang entered the room and closed the door behind her.
"Well?" asked Blake, she made room so that Yang could sit next to her on the tiny couch. Yang let out a deep sigh and put her head into her hands.
"There's like this substance stuck in her brain that making her have symptoms of PTSD." Replied Yang, looking back up and observing Ruby and Weiss across from them. She smiled then went back to a harden face. Blake reached out and took Yang's hand into hers.
"So what are they going to do about it?"
"The doctor said they need to run more tests. See what kind of substance it is and then they'll go from there. Either surgery or something…" Blake was silent and let Yang continue on, "It's barely a month and Ruby's already back in this damn place."
"It's not your fault Yang…" Yang shook her head. She felt responsible somehow for the recent events involving Ruby. Maybe it was because she was the older sister.
"I feel like it is though. Why does Ruby have to go through all this crap!?" Yang quickly got up and stormed out of the room. Blake was about to go after her when she saw Weiss's body awaken.
"Hey good you're awake. Listen I'm going to go out and get some air. I'll come back in a couple of minutes." Blake said, making her way towards the door. Weiss wasn't completely awake but she nodded, and Blake made her exit.
Weiss allowed her eyes to fall and repositioned herself on the edge of Ruby's bed. She hasn't slept since Ruby's meltdown, and right now she was at peace for once.
"Weiss?" Weiss shot up and saw that Ruby was awake, giving her that same old smile she always had. Weiss could feel the tears forming in her eyes.
"Dunce…" she said and hugged Ruby tightly by the neck. Ruby pulled Weiss onto the bed. She could hear Weiss's muffles as she pulled Weiss closer. Ruby separated their bodies and looked at Weiss's red, puffy eyes, then placed a gentle kiss on Weiss's forehead.
"I'm sorry…" Ruby managed to say, trying to hold back her own tears. Ruby felt responsible for all this pain and stress she's been putting on her teammates. Though unintentional Ruby just hated seeing them so upset, especially Weiss.
"Sorry? For what?" asked a bewildered Weiss. Ruby shifted uncomfortably in her spot, not sure what to say to Weiss.
"For all this. The pain, stress, and suffering I've put you guys through for the past month. This isn't right…" Weiss tried to look at Ruby in the eye but Ruby's gaze always avoided her when she tried. Before Weiss, was no longer a happy, energetic, childish young girl that she'd met on the first day of school, now all Weiss saw was just a crumbling of that figure, shattering slowly into pieces. It just broke Weiss's heart. She knew Ruby was trying to keep it together, to show that was a capable leader, but Weiss knew that Ruby was also suffering as much as they are.
"Ruby…it's not your fault. It's no one's fault. Do you understand me?" Weiss said firmly.
"But Weiss! It is my fau-"
"Ruby Rose, it is NOT your fault. Do you understand me, you dunce? This is NOT your fault!" Ruby was silent; she had opened her mouth to say something but decided against it. Weiss let out a sigh, and tilted Ruby's head upwards so that they would be eye-to-eye. Ruby's eyes were filled with tears, but they would not fall. Weiss closed the gap between them with a deep kiss; she could feel Ruby's tears falling onto her own cheeks, but Ruby did not separate them.
"Ruby, I love you. We love you. No matter what happens." Weiss said when they parted. Ruby nodded in agreement, unable to speak words. Weiss smiled, and caressed Ruby once more before they heard a knock on the door. Weiss got up to open it and saw that it was Blake and Yang.
"Yang! Blake!" cried Ruby, she jumped out of her hospital bed and into her sister's arms. Yang, surprised, caught Ruby and gave hugged her tightly, not wanting to let her sister go.
"Ruby, oh Ruby. I was so worried. Please, I'm so sorry. I love you so so so much. Please just stay with me okay. You're all I have." Yang cried into Ruby's shoulder. Ruby pulled Yang in tighter.
"I love you too Yang. I'm sorry I worried you. I won't go anywhere." Ruby replied, releasing her sister slightly. Yang wiped the tears from her eyes, but then turned her face hard. Ruby's eyes widen, trying to anticipate what Yang was about to say.
"And you, ever make this poor girl worry about your ass again," Yang pointed at Weiss, "I swear on a damn beowolf, I will forbid you from eating a SINGLE cookie EVER."
Ruby's jaw dropped, "But Yannngggggggggg" she got on her knees and started to beg. Yang crossed her arms and shook her head, and Ruby groaned in defeat. Blake and Weiss just smiled at the sister's antics. Then another knock came to the door. Yang opened it and let in the doctor.
"We ran some tests, and we've found the root cause of Ruby's breakdown," the girls kept silent to let the doctor continue, "It seems the substance, also known as traumson, was injected into Ruby's IV line the last time she was here. Traumson is a rare, deadly neuro poison, which as you saw, causes symptoms like PTSD. We ran tests when Ruby first was here, but the medical technician overlooked the first results."
"So who could of done such a thing to Ruby?" questioned Weiss, in her thoughts she was praying it wasn't her own father.
"Luckily, there are only few that know of the poison." Said a voice near the door. The girls turned to the door, and saw Professor Ozpin along with Professor Glynda.
"Professor!" the girls said in unison.
"Fortunately, we were able to get security footage outside Ruby's room." Ozpin pulled his scroll, and started to play the security tape. The girls watch intently, as they saw a figure go in and out of Ruby's room. All of them were shocked when they saw a small glance of the face, and orange hair.
"Roman Torchwick." Ruby said coldly, she could feel the anger build up inside of her.
Yay! Hope you liked that one! It took me like 3 days to finish this one (I know, shameful), but hopefully school won't over encumber me and can update again soon. Thanks for reading and sticking with me! :)
