Ruby made her towards the forest as fast as she could with her semblance. She wanted to get away from Beacon, and find answers for herself and not burden her team mates any longer. Ruby stopped at the edge of the forest to catch her breath. She resisted the urge to look back at Beacon, and start regretting.
"Yang…I'm sorry. I suck at leader, and a joke as a sister. Just take care of Weiss for me." Ruby thought, she started her semblance again into the forest, letting a tear fall down her face. Ruby ran for what seemed like hours to her, trying to figure out the source of the mysterious note. She stopped once more near a river bank and allowed herself to rest.
"Well, well, I knew you were an idiot, I just didn't think you that kind of idiot." Ruby's guard went up; she quickly turned to face the voice with Crescent Rose ready.
"Roman…I should have figured." Ruby brought Crescent Rose closer to her body as she saw Roman Torchwick, along with a couple of his henchmen, appear from the shadows.
"Yet you were naïve to follow that letter. You really are a- oh what did that princess call you? "Dolt"? Did you even consider that this was a trap?!"
"I had a couple thoughts here and there, but I wanted answers so I did what I was told to do."
"Hmm, well you wanted answers, but I'm not willing to give them yet. Boys!" Roman sent out his henchmen, but Ruby was ready for them. With each swing of her pycth, she felt her surroundings become a blur. Ruby stopped to rest a bit, panting heavily as she was once again surrounded by henchmen. She noticed that the men and Roman were now wearing gas masks, and that a green gas was released. Ruby cursed under her breath as she could feel that her consciousness was slipping. Roman made his way towards Ruby, and kicked Crescent Rose away from her hands.
"Well, guess you can't get your answers now, maybe she would," Roman let out a laugh, "Take her away."
"Wait-" was the last thing Ruby said before her consciousness fully slipped.
"Cinder we have her. We're on our way." Said Roman into his scroll.
"Well done Roman, I will see you soon. Everything is going according to plan." Cinder replied ending the call.
Ruby let out a loud groan as she slowly woke up. Her vision was a little blurry from the gas and couldn't make out her surroundings. Ruby tried to move around her hands but she soon realized that they were tied behind her back and her feet were chained together.
"Great. Smooth job Ruby, way to get yourself caught." Ruby continued to struggle for a bit until she could clearly see she was in the back of a vehicle. She looked around hoping to see some kind of clue to where they were taking her. Few minutes later, the vehicle came to a hard stop, causing Ruby to fall forward onto her chest. The back door opened and Ruby was grabbed by two of Roman's henchmen. They entered to what seemed like to be an abandon castle. A legitimate castle with stone walls and even a moat! The castle looked mostly run down from Ruby could see. The henchmen, led by Roman himself, continued to drag Ruby along with them. Inside, Ruby saw a vast variety of torn up banners, broken windows, and an occasional rusted suit of armor as display. They finally stopped in a large room, and from the looks of it must have been the main hall/throne room. The henchmen brought Ruby next to Roman as they stood before a figure sitting in the throne. Ruby could not make out a face since the shadows where keeping it hidden.
"Well done Roman, I'm glad you didn't mess up this time." The figure said, slowly rising and emerging the shadows. Ruby's eyes widen when the figure finally revealed their self.
"Why thank you Cinder. My pleasure serving you" Roman replied back with a hint of malice attached to the last word. Cinder made her way towards Ruby, as she got close Ruby could feel the sweat starting to form on her forehead; Cinder smirked sensing that Ruby was afraid.
"You're that woman…from my dream." Ruby managed to say, trying to keep her voice from shaking.
"I am. And I've been looking forward to meeting you Ruby Rose."
"Why?"
"Well dear to be frank with you, your mother is the reason." Cinder simple replied.
"My mother!? She's been dead, and I don't see how she has anything to do with the likes of you." Ruby said sternly, refusing to believe that her mother, the great Summer Rose, had anything to do with this vile woman.
"Ruby has Ozpin told you nothing? Did he not tell you how your mother met her untimely death?" Ruby kept quiet, trying to keep her emotions in check.
"Silence I see, guess Ozpin didn't really tell you anything. Well I guess I should tell you then…"
"Summer, it's too dangerous!" yelled Ozpin. He and his team consisting of Summer, Qrow, Taiyang Xiao Long, and…
"We have to get Cinder out of there!" Summer yelled back. Summer looked at the amount of beowolves, and a couple of ursi surrounding a young Cinder Fall, who was slowly running of dust. Summer could not take her eyes off the younger girl's expression as it shown both desperation and fear.
"This mission was a bad idea, we already have Qrow and Taiyang severely wounded and I can't carry them both." Ozpin yelled back at Summer once more, with a little more urgency. Summer knew it was wrong to leave her, she knew that deep down she couldn't leave Cinder behind but…
"I'm sorry Cinder." Summer whispered as she carefully carried Qrow on her shoulder, while Ozpin carried Taiyang, and they quickly escaped the Grimm nesting area.
Now…
"And they left me to die there that day. Luckily I was able to escape myself, half-dead at least." Cinder said as she walked back to her throne to sit. Ruby didn't believe her story, she wouldn't believe that her own kind, compassionate mother would leave a team mate behind.
"Shall I continue?"
The Day Summer Rose Died…
"Summer wait! Don't go alone!" Taiyang yelled, he was bleeding on his side, but he could not stop his wife from going into the castle. Their mission this time was to investigate strange occurances with the Grimm near this abandoned castle. Summer and Taiyang had no idea what was waiting for them.
"Taiyang I'm going to end this. You stay here and call for back up." Summer said, putting up her hood and walking further into the castle. Taiyang tried to get up, but his injuries from fighting the deathstalker beforehand prevented him to. He started to call for backup. Summer made her way into the throne room, there she came face to face with a figure near the throne. Summer got her weapons ready and launched towards the figure with great speed, however the figure easily dodged the attack, much to Summer's surprise. Summer tried again and again, but could not land a single hit on the figure.
"Who are you!?" yelled Summer, once again launching to attack the figure, but this time them blocked it and Summer was able to glance at their face. Her eyes widen. Summer pushed herself off the figure, and could not believe what she saw.
"No…it can't…you're suppose to be-"
"Dead?" Cinder came out from the shadows.
"Cinder how? I – We left you…all those grimm…there was no way." Summer could not find the words.
"Yes well I survived…no thanks to you Summer." Cinder's hatred built up even more.
"Cinder, I'm so sorry. I wanted to go back, I really did." Summer tried to explain.
"But you didn't…you didn't and you left me to die." Cinder snapped back. Summer was silent, the guilt all these past years have finally caught up to her.
"You're not leaving here alive Summer, that's a promise." Cinder said as she readied her dust. Summer raised up her weapon for her defense but she wasn't quick enough. Cinder made the final blow and Summer fell right before her. There was no remorse nor sadness in Cinder's eyes, just hate.
Now…
"Ironically, this is the same castle I killed your mother in. And over there," Cinder pointed to a spot near the back of the room, "Is where I killed her."
Ruby was left speechless. Both rage and sadness was building up inside her.
"Why me then? If you already got revenge on my mother then why me?!" Ruby yelled.
"Because you're her daughter, and that is my only reason." Cinder, simple said. Ruby tried to launch herself forward to attack Cinder out of rage, but was quickly knocked out by Roman. Ruby felt the air escape her body, as it made contact with Roman's walking stick, and once again Ruby was on the floor.
"Take her away. If everything goes as plan, her team mates will try to come find her, then you lead them here." Commanded Cinder.
"Why my team!?" asked Ruby quickly. Cinder smirked.
"For you to watch them suffer before your eyes of course." Ruby struggled one last time before she was thrown into a cell below the castle. There was only one person that was on her mind. Weiss.
