Chapter 10

"Italie," France began slowly, looking up at the Italian. "You did what?"

He felt Liechtenstein nudge him slightly, a look of annoyance on her face. America hadn't said anything about not telling anyone about visiting him but out of courtesy, he and Lilli had decided not to speak of their visit.

"Nothing, France," Lilli said quickly covering up for him her voice cold and icy. It was unnatural to hear the younger nation so cold. But, he knew Lilli. She was strong. She didn't need any support when it came to people. "We delivered a message to America through his nurse. And, she said we were allowed to video chat with him. But, that was it."

Italy watched as nations visibly tensed. He and everyone else could feel a growing tension between Lilli and Francis. Francis seemed to doubt Lilli's statement and it was shown clearly on his face.

It was then when Vash, thankfully, decided to grab by the arm leading her to a spot beside him. Germany took Italy's hand.

He turned his head towards the blonde. Ludwig's crystal blue eyes were pleading him to sit so they could start the meeting.

France raised a brow as Vash walked Lilli away. He turned to Feliciano, his face still asking the same question. Their eyes met for a moment causing Feliciano to quickly divert his eyes away, blushing deeply.

France had that odd ability to peer past your eyes and into your pure, raw emotion. It scared Feliciano sometimes how easily France could do it.

And that small action had gained the attention of all the other nations, causing them to look to him.

He fidgeted under their stares. He could feel himself grow hotter and hotter with each passing second. He turned to Germany, who was still inviting him to his seat beside him.

"Ve- sorry," he said to all those staring at him as he rushed to his seat. In the process he nearly careened into Germany. The German gave a short, irritated sigh peering down at him. He silently pleaded for Germany to start the meeting.

Germany cleared his throat, "Well, if there will be no further interruptions. France, I'd appreciate it if you took a seat," The Frenchman reluctantly did so. "I suppose we can start the meeting."

There was the momentary sound of nations pulling out papers, laptops, and other needed distractions. And as Italy was pulling his things out, Germany caught his wrist.

"Ludwig, I-"

"I need to talk to you after the meeting," Ludwig said his ice blue eyes forcing him into silence. He nodded in reply, unable to speak.

Ludwig eventually let go of his wrist and moved on with the meeting. But the whole time, Feliciano couldn't shake that the whole debacle concerning America was going to get quiet messy and quiet un-European.

Charlotte sat beside Alfred's bed as he slept. She watched the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest. His golden blonde hair fell over his eyes as he let out a little, occasional snore.

She smiled despite herself. She was fond of Alfred, which she would admit. But, he was odd.

Whenever he smiled it never truly reached his eyes. It was like everything had lost feeling for him. It broke her heart knowing that every time she made him laugh, it never touched him…not really.

She got up to reach for clipboard used to record observations on the patient. He was healing quiet well for…someone in his situation. At the rate he was going at, he would be out of the hospital in a couple days.

That would mean that she'd be back to her usual boring routine.

She loved her job and all but it could be so boring sometimes. Alfred was, probably, the most exciting thing that had happened to her while working at the hospital, not because of his situation or his rank in the UN but because of how he managed to brighten her day.

She scribbled a quick positive observation on the clip board tossing it back onto a table. She wasn't one for writing patient observations. That had always been her friend Nina's job.

She sighed as she looked at Alfred's sleeping face. She moved a hand over his face, brushing aside his blonde hair.

"There," she whispered, "perfect."

She smiled slightly as Alfred stirred slight at her touch. He yawned and readjusted himself in his bed, opening his eyes.

"What's up, Chuck?" he asked groggily putting on a smile.

"Nothing," she said pretending to fix his beside IV. "Just fixing this. I'm sorry I woke you."

"No need to be sorry," he said waving off her concern. "I was just about to wake up."

She rolled her eyes as she got up from his bedside. As great company as he was, she had to leave. She had other patients to attend to and…she didn't want to get too attached to him. He was going to leave someday soon back to America, where he belonged.

And she had promised long ago that, she'd never return there.

"How do you know?" she asked smiling.

"Because you're here."

The smiled slid off her face, she could feel it. She hadn't expected him to say that. He was too sweet, too nice for her.

She didn't deserve someone throwing compliments at her like that.

"I'm sorry. I just realized I have somewhere I need to be," she blurted. "Doctor Adlersflügel will be in to see you shortly."

"Charlie," he said as she made her way towards the door. "Charlotte, please I'm sorry. I don't know what I did to offend you. But, I'm sorry!"

She slammed door pressing a green button next to his door signaling that he was ready for the doctor.

She shut her eyes and walked away because that's really all she could do in this situation. Whether he stayed or left she didn't want him.

She didn't need him. Or, that's what she hoped.
