Title: Through The Shadow's Of Boredom The Past Can Emerge
Summary: During their late teens, the Cutie Mark Crusaders fled from Ponyville in the middle of the night to escape their problems. Now adults, the trio rebuilt their lives in a deadbeat town, juggling work, their social lives (or lack thereof) and raising a young filly. The past, however, has a way of creeping back in ways someone least expects it to.
Warnings: More pony curses?
Chapter Title: Meeting Them Halfway (Part 2 of 2) (Mane Six version)
...
Dr. Logic- No problem, but I doubt it'd work out if I sent it to Hasbro. =) Teenage pregnancies, battle scars, running away from home, not to mention Scoots is a lesbian, all on a public kids show? Lord(s) above, I'd be the thing that'd get them canceled.
...
"Oh, for bucks sake, Applejack!"
"Hey now, don't you go blamin' me fer this, Dash."
If the pegasus floated any higher above the ground, she'd smack her head on the ceiling. Applejack almost wished she would.
"I mean, seriously, would it have killed you to try to find out their address?" Rainbow Dash shook her head and perched herself on the bottom step, arms crossed. "Or at least check up on them, or something?"
"Ah found out where they were livin', didn't Ah? It wasn't like Scootaloo was gonna invite me over fer dinner, Dash. Ah took what Ah could get."
"As much as I hate to admit it, Applejack does have a point, Rainbow Dash." Rarity, fashionably late as always, interjected as she stepped into the room, gracefully kicking the door shut behind her. She sported a small blue saddle bag, which thumped quietly against her side as she trotted over to them. "But, honestly, you could have at least asked how they were doing, Darling."
"Scootaloo couldn't've been quieter if her voice box went mute. Honestly, Ah'm lucky Ah got anythin' out of her."
"Uh, girls?"
"She was right there, for the sun's sake! Right in front of you! You could've at least checked her over, or something, right!?"
"She looked fine ta' me, RD. Why, the only thing that struck me as odd was that her wings looked a little different from how Ah remember-"
"Girls!?"
"And what about Sweetie Belle? Something must be wrong if she hasn't become a music sensation by now. Perhaps-"
"GIRLS!"
The trio stopped at once, directing their glares over to her. Twilight cleared her throat, not the least bit intimidated. "Thank you. While I'm honestly baffled at your need to argue this in my library at-" She squinted at the clock. "Oh, say, four in the morning, give or take? I have something I think you'd like to see."
"What is it, Twi?"
"A letter." Purple magic calmly floated the parchment down the stairs and into the main room, rolling open for them to read. "It seems you're even more habitual than I first thought. They even knew to send it to me, rather than one of you."
'Dear Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and probably Twilight;
-Er, Princess Twilight, sorry-
The whole mini-family has decided to take your advice and come back to Ponyville. No, not for forever. Just for a vacation.
..Shut up, Scootaloo; I so do not cry at the end of vacations!
...
Sweets, don't take her side over mine!
Er, is the quill still moving? Oh geez, I hope that doesn't make it into the final print.
... Oh, wait, it's ink. Of course it's going to be in the final print. Scootaloo, I blame you for this.
Anyhow, we'll be there for a week, maybe two. Reconnect with you all, maybe visit the farm, the normal sappy stuff.
I'm sure you know what I'm getting at. This is pretty see-through, after all.
Signed,
Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo.
... Yes, Scootaloo, I did write your name last for revenge. I'm sure you'll-
Sweetie! Turn that stupid thing off! And quit chuckling!
"They took my advice on meeting them halfway." Applejack acknowledged smugly.
"So they did." Rarity mumbled weakly, scanning the page. Twilight yawned in agreement.
"About time. Look, girls, as exciting as this news is, and it really is, don't get me wrong, it's four in the morning and I just finished a huge study project for Princess Luna, so if you don't mind..."
"No, no, go on ahead." Rarity waved her off.
"Yeah, don't let us interrupt your beauty sleep." Rainbow Dash snickered.
"Make sure to sleep off all that extra caffeine, ya' hear?"
Twilight yawned and nodded, contently trailing back up the stairs. "Goodnight, girls. Try and keep it down, will you? This is a library, after all."
Her bedroom door quietly snapped shut. Applejack rolled the parchment shut.
"So, uh, what now?"
"Applejack! I'm surprised you had to ask the question." Rarity shook her head. "If they're willing to extend a hoof in an attempt to rekindle familial bonds, as will I."
"Uh, in English? Yeesh, you're getting just as bad as Twilight."
There was a soft popping noise. A bucket of lukewarm water appeared out of thin air and promptly splashed the cyan mare from the head down to the tail. "What the-?" She spat out a small stream of liquid and shook herself dry.
Applejack giggled. "Rainbow, ain't you ever heard of the phrase 'don't mess with a sleepin' unicorn'?"
"But she's not a unicorn!"
"She's had that horn a heck of a lot longer then she's had those wings, RD. She'll always be a unicorn, at least in her head."
"Anyway." Rarity broke in. "As I was about to suggest before, well, you know, perhaps we should take Applejack's own advice and... meet them halfway?"
"Whattaya mean? As in, we burst in on them along the way?"
"Not quite, no. We merely drop in to escort them through the forbidden forest and such. After all, Equestria can be quite the dangerous place, especially at night, and who better to ensure their safety than three of the mane six?"
Applejack's jaw dropped. Rainbow Dash stared at her, a new wave of respect washing over them both.
"... You know, you can be quite the sneak when you wanna be."
Rarity chuckled. "I prefer cunning, personally, but whatever suits your fancy. So then, it's settled? We'll meet up with them along the way?"
"Uh, sure, Ah don't see why not..."
"Good. I'll go pack my things. I suggest you do the same." Rarity calmly trotted back out the door as though she were merely discussing the weather. "We'll meet here at noon."
Three of the mane six were on their way.
Author's Note: Applejack noticed something wrong with Scootaloo's wings, Manipulative Rarity is manipulative, and Rainbow Dash just wants to get there already. =) The CMC and filly group are in for an interesting visit.
And, yes, the bits of conversation that are so close to the chapter before were intentional. It was to show that, even after all these years, the mares are still connected to each other in their own little ways, even in the strangest of ways to the strangest of mares (Applebloom and Rainbow Dash on the attack, Scootaloo and Applejack being defensive, Rarity and Sweetie somehow both knowing that they need to meet up again, etc.)
Random fun fact: Rainbow Dash is a big supporter of Celestia and the sun due to their business and semi-religious relationship from when she was a filly on up ("For the sun's sake!"), but Scootaloo personally leans towards Luna because of their closeness before she ran away and her love of the night sky ("For Luna's sake!"). Just random tidbit of character building for you. =)
No flames! Don't like don't read! Review!
