Sandra walked with the others through the barren land. She had called Erica a few days ago and told her what was going on. She found out that she was hanging around with team Excalibur, or more specifically, Julian. Sandra wasn't surprised. Erica had always been a girl to chase after what sh wanted, no matter what.
"There's some ruins up ahead," Sora spoke, breaking the silence.
"Do you think we'll find Kyoya there?" Leo asked, looking hopeful. Sandra knew how he felt. She was worried about Kyoya too. Plus, Leo had already lost both parents. He couldn't lose his older brother too. Kyoya was the only family Leo had left.
"Only one way to find out," Gigi piped up.
They hiked up toward the ruins, fog becoming thicker as they closed in on their destination. "I heard a rumor about this place," Pence said.
"What did it say?" Shori asked.
"That there was a monster that lived in the ruins, stealing food and attacking the villagers," Pence answered.
Rex smirked. "Interesting."
"You don't think we'll run into the monster, do you?" Amber questioned, looking slightly worried.
"I wouldn't worry about it. It's probably not true and just a story someone invented to scare people," Blaze chimed in.
They soon reached the ruins and right away, they could all detect the sounds of clashing beys. "Someone's battling," Sandra whispered.
"But who?" Gigi asked.
The group exchanged looks before cautiously making their way deeper into the ruins. The sounds of battle got louder with every step, and Sandra put her hand by her launcher, ready to defend herself if necessary. She felt her heart speed up and her tiredness returned. She was still recovering from the tournament, but she knew deep down that she wouldn't fully recover for a while.
"Is it the monster?" Shori asked.
"Quiet!" Rex snapped, silently.
"Sandra, maybe you should let one of us check it out first," Sora suggested.
"But..." Sandra began to protest but Leo cut in.
"She's right. You're exhausted, and if that's the enemy, you may not get away without injuries. You may not get away at all in your condition," he pointed out.
Sandra sighed, feeling completely useless. "Alright, fine. But if I have to sit here too long, I'm coming after you, and I don't care what you say."
They all nodded. "Leo, let's go!" Rex ordered, heading off before anybody could argue. Leo shrugged and followed him. Sandra leaned against the stone wall and crossed her arms, taking deep breaths, trying to relax.
Suddenly, they heard shouting before everything went silent. Rex came back. "It's fine," he assured them.
"Then who was battling?" Gigi asked, not waiting for an answer before she pushed her way past Rex. The group followed her. Sandra waited until they had all gone before bringing up the rear. She stiffened when she heard Gigi's voice again, though. "Kyoya?"
"Gigi? Amber? You're here too?" Kyoya's voice reached her ears and Sandra felt her stomach churn. What if he was mad at her?
Shaking her head, Sandra forced herself to calm down before following the group. As she rounded the corner, her eyes met Kyoya's, and he looked utterly surprised. "Sandra, what are you doing here? I thought you were with the others?"
"I decided I'd come after you," Sandra said. She shrugged. "What can I say? I got worried."
Sandra studied Kyoya's face, but there was not trace of anger in his eyes. Only the love that Sandra cherished with all her heart.
"Yo-yo! Focus! We're battling!" Sandra finally noticed Yu on the other side of a bey stadium. That explains why the battle sounded so fierce. It's between two strong bladers, Sandra thought.
"Don't call me Yo-yo!" Kyoya snapped. "Leone!"
"Go Libra!" Yu sent his bey to meet Kyoya's but just as they were about to collide, another bey swooped in and split them apart. Kyoya and Yu caught their beys and turned to look at the top of the wall. Sandra stared in shock, not believing her eyes.
"It's the monster!" Yu exclaimed in excitement as the monster disappeared over the wall.
"I can't believe it's actually real," Sora said, shock written all over her face.
"Come on! Come on! Come on! Let's go!" Yu shouted, running over to Kyoya and grabbing his hand, trying to drag him along but Kyoya yanked his hand away.
Sandra watched the two argue with amusement. It felt like old times. Yu was always so cheerful, it was enough to make anybody forget any problems they had. Kyoya continued to yell at Yu but the little boy seemed not to hear him. Kyoya sighed, having no choice but to go with the kid.
"We should go too. I want a piece of this monster," Rex growled, his eyes shining with anticipation.
"I guess it couldn't hurt," Gigi said.
"Then let's go with them," Sandra ran up beside Kyoya and fell into step beside him as they went after the monster.
