Chapter 11: Baby!

"So… Tamaki knew about me? And he still left…" Genji said interrupting again. He was looking at me with those sad brown eyes of his and he looked like he was about to cry. I pulled him into a hug and kissed the top of his blonde head. "Yeah he knew and he still left. But you know what?" I said pushing him back so I could look at him. "I wanted you. I wanted you then and I want you now. You're still my son, Genji, you always will be and I'm proud to call you my son."

He gave me a sad smile and said, "I'm happy you helped out Mom and decided to be my Dad, Dad. I like being an Ootori."

I smirked at him, the blonde sometimes dramatic Suoh being proud to be my son. "Now there's still a little bit of the story left, we're almost done." I said before continuing.

Baby Names

Haruhi and I had been married for three months now and she was seven months pregnant. The media had found out about the baby, calling the shotgun wedding the scandal of the year. Of course they didn't know it wasn't mine, nor did they know I was a 19-year-old married virgin and would stay that way for a while. We had spent our honeymoon in Southern Japan and spent most of it shopping for the baby. But now it was November and Christmas was just around the corner.

Haruhi and I were laying in front of the fireplace of our new home, an average sized house still in commuting distance from school and just a few minutes away from Ranka. I was in my second year at Uni but was still making money by working under my father. Though he had not yet decided which of the sons would take over the family business we all worked under him and earned our share of a living. Though I didn't think I made much money when Haruhi found out how much I earn she just about had a heart attack saying it was triple what her dad pulled in a year on a good year. She convinced me to buy what I would consider a small four-bedroom house for us and we moved in after the honeymoon.

"What about Chikako? I means child of wisdom," Haruhi asked me. We were flipping through a baby name book. We had decided that if it's a girl we'd name her Kotoko Akemi after Haruhi's mother and mine.

"I don't know, his father was only number two in the class," I teased her. It had become easier to tease Tamaki since the wedding, knowing that he really was just an asshole. She elbowed me in the stomach after that comment.

"Well his mother is number one in her class and he'll be raised by the smartest man I know."

I kissed the top of her head and smirked into her hair. At least she knew I was better then him. Then I felt her belly almost vibrate under my hand, it kind of tickled. "What was that?" I asked her.

"The baby's kicking, he doesn't like you calling him second best either," she said laughing. It was the first time I had felt the baby kick.

"Don't worry baby," I said talking more to her stomach than Haruhi. "I'll make sure you're number one, no one beats an Ootori."

"Yeah, I wish I had known that a few years ago…" Haruhi mumbled, I think more to herself than me but I had to smile when I heard it. I guess I wasn't the only one that regretted letting Tamaki have her.

I looked back at the baby name book we were going through and I saw the perfect name. "What about Genji? It means from two beginnings."

"I like that… two beginnings, first a Suoh then a Ootori… Genji Chikako Ootori," she said smiling.

"Genji Chikako Ootori it is," I said hugging her tighter from behind.

Labor

It was late January and Haruhi was due any day now. The twins and Honey-sempi and Mori-sempi had spent every moment not sleeping or in class at our house. Haruhi hasn't had to lift a finger since Christmas, maybe even before Christmas. The twins had a whole new line of baby clothes for boys and girls in the nursery closet and Honey decorated the entire nursery in yellows and greens with a few pink bunnies thrown in. Now we were just waiting for Haruhi to go into labor and the longer we waited the more nervous I got.

Father knew the child wasn't mine and Ranka didn't believe me from the moment I told him. We had seen the sonograms and the baby was healthy but we couldn't see what he was going to look like. I was praying for a little brunette with brown eyes but I knew there was a fifty percent chance that the baby would have blonde hair or violet eyes. If the baby did look like Tamaki there would be a whole new scandal for the media to talk about and who knows what Father would do with the company after that one.

"Kyouya!" I heard Haruhi scream. I had been in the office studying for my exam on Friday while she was studying in the living room. "Kyouya! Kyouya, I think my water broke!"

I jumped up from my desk, grabbed the hospital bag from our room, and ran down the stairs. Honey-sempi and Mori-sempi, who had been in the nursery, were on my tail. I got down stairs and saw the twins were already at Haruhi's side helping her off the floor where she had been sitting.

"Haruhi? Ready?" I said as I walked over to her and hugged her.

"No, but he is!" she said shaking her head. She was just as nervous as I was about what the baby was going to look like. I heard Mori on the phone calling the limo over and hugged Haruhi tighter.

"He? I thought you didn't want to know until the baby was born."

"Yeah… I don't know but I just have a feeling it's a boy." A little boy, a son as my first-born, I was okay with that. Biologically or not I always wanted a son.

I helped Haruhi into the limo and then into the hospital. We had already set up everything for her and, as Mrs. Kyouya Ootori, she was going to be treated with the best we could offer. She would have her own private room and the doctors and nurses had been pre screened by both my oldest brother, Yuuichi, who was currently working as a neurosurgeon, and myself. I spent the next 8 hours with the twins, Mori, Honey and Haruhi waiting. Since her water broke before contractions they had to induce labor but it would still take up to 15 hours for the baby to come.

After two hours I sent for our driver to pick up our studying material and, true to our nature, Haruhi studied with the twins and I went over my notes. I had already emailed all of our professors to tell them what was happening and that we would be out of classes for a while, though they seemed to care more about meeting the baby then us missing classes.

After 8 hours the doctors told us she was ready and Haruhi and I were moved to the delivery room. The other four stayed and waited with Ranka, who showed up within the first half hour of us being there. Haruhi and I were in the delivery room for 2 hours after that, something they don't tell you on TV shows, it's normal to push for 1-3 hours.

On January 26 at 2:35am Genji Chikako Ootori was born… with blonde hair and brown eyes.

Telling the Truth

"He's Tamaki's son…" Ranka said coming up behind me. I was looking at "my" son in his cradle in Haruhi room. Haruhi was fast asleep, she had, had a long day.

"No…" I paused and sighed. "No, he's my son, he will always be my son."

"He's blonde, Kyouya,"

There was silence for a few minutes. I wasn't really sure how to tell Ranka that Tamaki knew about him. He already hated Tamaki, we all did at this point, but I still didn't want him thinking his grandson was related to such a coward. "Ranka…" I said turning to him. "We called Tamaki to tell him the truth before we were married. Haruhi couldn't go through with the wedding unless Tamaki at least knew about the baby. Maybe she believe he would come back if he knew…" I turned back to Genji peacefully sleeping having no idea the man that signed his birth certificate wasn't his father. "He knew she was pregnant when he left, he thought she'd get an abortion when he left so he didn't tell her. He knew and he left anyway."

Ranka was silent for a while, I guess in shock, but before he could react my father came into the room. "You are even braver than I thought my son," he said to me coming over and placing a hand on my shoulder. "His own father ran away and picked up the pieces…" He looked down and shook his head at Genji. "No way to hide that head of hair is there?" I just shook my head.

"The media is going to have a field day…"

"What if… what if we tell them the truth then?" Ranka said. I raised my eyebrow at him in confusion. "Well they are going to go after Haruhi, they always go after the mother, so why don't we tell them the truth? Tell them the father left knowing she was pregnant, say that you were there for her and you fell in love. Make you look like the hero you are instead of a victim to Haruhi being a monster?"

It was something I hadn't thought about, but it might be crazy enough. We'd try to keep Tamaki's name a secret, mainly so his father wouldn't suffer, but it was a better idea then letting Haruhi's name suffer. Wasn't that why we were married to begin with? So her name wouldn't suffer? So she would make it into law school with prejudice? So she wouldn't have to be alone? I guess I wasn't done protecting her just yet.
