Chapter 13: The Final Phone Call
"So he just left?" Genji asked me when I finished.
"Yeah, he just left. He never let us tell him what happen; he never called to check up. Your mother calls him about once a year to see if he'll come back or just talk but he never does."
"What if… What if I called him?" He asked looking at me with the same face his mother has when she's trying to solve a problem.
"Well… It's always worth a shot, that is if you want to talk to him."
"I do, I think I should… I'm going to go find Mom and tell her!" I watched him get up and run to the door of the office but before he left he turned around and added, "You'll always be my Dad, Dad." And with a smile he left.
I smiled to myself, I guess I raised him right even with the blonde hair. I stood up and fallowed Genji's trail to Haruhi in the living room. I stood in the doorway and smiled at family in front of me. Genji was telling Haruhi all about his grand plan to call Tamaki as his little sister and brother were doing their homework at the coffee table. Haruhi laughed at Genji's over dramatic side that always seemed to liven up the Ootori household. I guess every family needs a little Tamaki in it, at least mine does.
"Kyouya? Did you hear his scheme? He sounds just like him," Haruhi said with a huge smile on her face. Him a silence presence in this house for so long, I almost gave her the "be quiet" look out of habit because the kids were there.
"Oh I heard enough of it, he's always sounded like him to me. He was my best friend, I loved him almost as much as I love you." I walked over to her and pulled her off the couch, "Almost," I said before kissing her.
"Ew, stop being lovely dovey! I want to call Uncle Tamaki!" Uncle Tamaki, I was so happy to hear him say that instead of dad or anything like that.
"Alright, lets give him a call," Haruhi said laughing at our son. I sat down in my armchair and picked up the landline dialing his number, something I haven't done in many years. Haruhi sat on the armrest to my right and Genji leaned against the other one, to big to sit on my lap anymore. He had inherited Tamaki's height, he was starting to look like the Tamaki that first came to me with the idea of creating a Host Club, with brown eyes of course. The phone started to ring and I was nervous, even the younger kids could tell, they had stopped doing their work to watch what would happen next. I decided to put the call on speaker and one ring later his maid answered.
"Hello, Tamaki Suoh residence," she said in French
"Hello, may I speak to Tamaki? Tell him it's an old friend calling," I replied in French. She put me on hold and we waited again.
"Dad, I didn't know you spoke French," my younger son said surprised.
"Daddy speaks a lot of different languages for work, I'll teach you one," I said smirking. I waved him over and he crawled on my lap while we waited. Haruhi was already holding our daughter; she was very much a momma's girl, though she looked exactly like me, glasses and all.
"Bonjour!" Tamaki said making me flinch; I had almost forgotten what we were waiting for.
"Hello Tamaki," I said in Japanese.
"Kyouya? Is that you, why I haven't heard from you since the wedding… is everything okay?" he asked with a surprise tone.
"Everything is fine, I just have someone here that would like to talk to you," I said placing my hand on Genji's shoulder in support. He looked more nervous than I have ever seen him.
Before Tamaki could reply, in true Ootori fashion, Genji spoke up. "Hi Uncle Tamaki, it's Genji, Dad told me all about you. I just wanted to call and talk to you."
