I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I ate lots of yumminess. It was great. I liked the mashed potatoes.
Garry: What about turkey?
Mary: And pumpkin pie!
Ib: ...Cranberry sauce?
Whatever, those things are good, I guess. This chapter shows some sessions with the doctors. And the hide and seek guy who reminds me of Naruto! I think you guys will like it.
I don't own Ib or the guy that reminds me of Naruto. Seriously, hide and seek guy was a stick person. It's alight if I alter his looks, right?
Don't forget to review!
My Problem Chapter 4
Seeking and Truthfulness
~Ib~
Ib rapped her knuckles lightly on Dr. Red Hall's office door at exactly 1:00. "Come in." the doctor answered.
The door creaked when Ib pushed it open. "Ah Ib, right on time." Dr. Red's lips quirked up in a smile she thought would look friendly. Ib thought it looked pained. "Come in, make yourself comfortable."
Ib's eyes followed the direction Dr. Red was pointing in to land on the couch. Ib went over and sat on the edge as stiffly as possible.
The doctor barked a laugh. "That doesn't look comfortable at all. Why don't you lay down and relax?"
Ib's eyebrows furrowed at how the doctor poked fun at her, but she did as she was told and leaned back into the couch. She wouldn't relax though.
"So Ib, tell me about yourself." Dr. Red said after sitting in the armchair next to the couch.
Ib simply stared blankly back at her doctor until the older woman pursed her lips in irritation. "Okay, let me reword that. What are you interested in, Ib?"
The teenager didn't answer. "Do you have any hobbies?"
Nothing. "A favorite color?"
Ib continued to stare. The doctor was starting to wonder if she had a hearing problem or if she was always this difficult. "I can't help you if you don't answer me." Dr. Red told her.
Ib continued to look uninterested. The doctor drew up her mental strength. "I have your school assignments and textbooks. You chose the advanced courses, didn't you? Honors English Language Arts, Advanced Japanese, Honors World History, Art History, and Music. Do you like art and music, Ib?"
Ib blinked, but it wasn't enough of an acknowledgement for Dr. Red to record. "Do you have a positive relationship with your parents? They seemed like nice people when I talked to them."
Ib apparently got tired of blankly staring at Dr. Red because she started twiddling her thumbs with a bored look on her face.
Dr. Red wanted to scream in frustration.
~Mary~
Mary walked out of Dr. Yellow's office with a blue sucker in her mouth. Her doctor was the best! She had a candy bouquet on her desk and she let Mary take a piece. She also let Mary draw pictures during the appointment. It was too bad the doctor made Mary leave the pictures in the office.
The doctor also asked some questions, such as how she was settling in and what her home was like. When Mary mentioned her father's art, Dr. Yellow happily informed her of the magnificent paintings in the libraries and commons.
After Mary was let out of the office, she went to the elevator. She slipped out at the 1st floor and skipped to the commons, humming happily.
She stopped short when a blonde man in his late 20s jumped out of an open door. "Hiyah!" he yelled as he jabbed Mary hard in the shoulder. "You just got ninja-poked." the man crowed at Mary's bewildered expression.
"…Are you playing a game I don't know of?" Mary wondered aloud. The way he jabbed her seemed a lot like tag.
The man seemed to take offense. "It certainly is not. I'm a ninja, so it's my duty to sneak up on people and strike when it is least expected."
"That must mean you're good at hide and seek. Wanna play with me?"
The man considered the question asked. "I have some time on my hands, but it might be too much of a challenge for you to find me."
"Well, stick to the 1st floor. I'll do my best." Mary closed her eyes and started counting to 100.
The man was gone when she opened her eyes. Mary grinned as she started seeking. She loved playing games like these, but her friends weren't very good at hiding or seeking.
Mary walked into all kinds of rooms in her search. Some of the rooms were occupied by patients and/or staff, but Mary paid them no mind. She figured that the doctors would lock doors they didn't want people going in. However, some of the doors were locked. It was odd to Mary because these doors didn't require a key card like the rooms on the upper floor.
Mary wandered into an empty conference room. She looked behind the curtains and under the table, but she couldn't find the hide-and-seek guy. It was getting closer to dinner time, so she was getting impatient.
She stomped over to the storage closet in the conference room and threw open the door. The blonde ninja man jumped out, yelling, "You found me!" He jabbed her hard on the shoulder again before sprinting out of the room.
Mary giggled. "That was fun! He was a really silly guy."
She skipped out into the hallway, but she wasn't paying attention to her surroundings. She crashed into a girl who was walking from another direction. "Oof." Mary gasped when she landed on her rear.
The girl she crashed into managed to keep her balance and held her hand out to help Mary up.
The girl had pale skin, straight brown hair, and red eyes. She wore a proper looking white blouse with a red pleated skirt. She kind of looked like a doll.
Mary took the girl's hand and got back on her feet. "Hey, thanks! I didn't mean to run into you." She gave the girl the brightest smile possible.
The girl pressed her lips together uncertainly, but nodded.
"My name's Mary! What's your name?"
"Ib," the girl said in the softest voice.
"I'm very pleased to meet you, Ib. Let's be best friends!"
"…It's nice to meet you too." Ib stared at her blankly before silently continuing to walk in the direction of the commons.
"I hope we meet again soon." Mary shouted after her. When she was out of sight, Mary said to herself, "She didn't answer my question, but she seems nice."
Her stomach growled, reminding Mary to hurry to dinner before the cafeteria closed for the day.
~Garry~
After a dinner of chicken and beans, Garry found himself at Dr. Blue's office door. The schedule he was given had appointments only in the afternoon or early evening. Based off this, Garry assumed his doctor wasn't a morning person.
"Doctor, I'm here for my appointment." Garry called as he poked his head into the room. The lights weren't on and no one was in the room. Garry entered with caution. He walked over to the desk.
The desk had a lamp, a bouquet of fake blue flowers, a computer, a picture of 4 people, and a file with Garry's name on it.
Garry was curious about what Dr. Blue knew about him. He was reaching for the file when someone at the doorway cleared her throat. Garry leapt in surprise at the unexpected noise and turned to Dr. Blue with a hand to his racing heart.
"We're running behind, Mr. Baker. If you would kindly seat yourself on the couch, we can get started." Dr. Blue said, glancing at Garry as though he were the reason she was late.
Garry went to the faded blue couch and lounged in it. The doctor strode to the desk and retrieved the file with Garry's name on it as well as a briefcase.
"Shoes off the couch, Mr. Baker." Dr. Blue scolded.
Garry rolled his eyes before slipping his shoes off his feet. However, he kept his sock covered feet on the couch.
Dr. Blue sat in the chair next to the couch. "Since you are already relaxed, let's begin. I'm going to ask you some questions and I'd like you to answer them as truthfully as you can. Will you do that?"
"Sure."
"What's your horoscope sign?"
"Capricorn,"
"What's your favorite color?"
"Red,"
"What was your favorite subject in school?"
"Hmm…Chemistry or Art,"
"What's your favorite season?"
"Fall,"
"How many friends do you have?"
"Um, I don't know. A few I guess."
"What's your favorite movie or book genre?"
"Mmm, I like adventure and fantasy."
"What do you do in your free time?"
"I…read and paint." Garry paused in answering because although he said he would answer truthfully, he didn't feel comfortable telling the doctor about burning blue dolls. It wasn't a complete lie, but he wasn't telling the whole truth either.
Dr. Blue scribbled down the answers to the questions and fixed her gaze on Garry's pale blue eyes. "Now I'm going to repeat the questions, but this time I want you to answer untruthfully. Understand?"
"I don't know how this has to do with anything."
"I'll explain it after you answer the questions. What is your sign?"
"Gemini,"
"What's your favorite color?"
"Green,"
"What was your favorite subject in school?"
"Um, History,"
"What's your favorite season?"
"Winter."
"How many friends do you have?"
"Ha, millions!"
"What's your favorite movie or book genre?"
"Horror,"
"What do you do in your spare time?"
"Play sports,"
"Now this question should be answered honestly. What do you think of this test?" Dr. Blue asked.
"It was okay. I'd like to know what the test was for." Garry admitted uncomfortably.
Dr. Blue's usually strict expression softened for a moment. "The test was so I could get a better understanding of your personality using a little theory of mine. You see, when a person is told to lie, they subconsciously say the exact opposite of the truth. At least, that's my theory."
"So what do the answers to that test mean?"
"I'll figure it out later. Expect more tests like this in the near future." the doctor replied, "Don't worry about being left in the dark. I believe in telling my patients what we are doing, why, and what it means. I won't hide things from you, but you have to trust me in return."
"I just met you! I can't trust you yet." Garry said, averting his eyes from the doctors.
The doctor decided to ignore Garry's statement. She reached out and touched her index and middle fingers to Garry's throat.
Garry stared at Dr. Blue with surprise and tried to avoid the contact. "Wha-what are you doing?!"
"I'm going to say some words and I'm going to check your pulse. Just relax and focus on the words."
"You don't want me to tell you how I feel about the words?"
"Honestly, I couldn't care less what you feel about them. Now shush." Dr. Blue focused her cold blue eyes on the clock.
