My Problem: Chapter 6
Bad News
~Lylia Mental Hospital~
Dr. Yellow hesitantly knocked on Dr. Red's office door. "Enter." Dr. Red's voice droned.
The yellow-eyed doctor obeyed and approached the desk where Red was waiting. "I received your email." she stated.
"I can see that. The reason for the email… um… a relative has passed on." Red said slowly, as though the wrong word would cause an explosion.
"O-Oh! Is it on Uncle's side or your mother's?" Yellow asked.
"It was my grandpa on Mom's side." Red assured her.
Dr. Yellow let out a sigh of relief, but stiffened ashamedly. "I'm sorry for your loss."
"I just wanted to let you know since you are in charge of mine and Blue's patients while we go to the funeral."
"Wh-what!"
"Someone has to give them guidance, and the most qualified is you. We're leaving tomorrow-"
"W-wait! How am I going to guide them individually? And how am I to have appointments with three of them?"
"I don't know. Have group therapy or something."
"There's no way I can keep two teens and an adult under control!"
"Have Dr. Purple help you. Honestly Yellow, you are a psychologist! Problem solve like an adult!" Dr. Red shook her head at Yellow.
Dr. Yellow straightened the way a professional should. "O-okay. I'll do my best. Will you inform the patients before you leave?"
"Absolutely. You have nothing to worry about until tomorrow." Dr. Red admitted. She gave an apologetic smile to her cousin, hoping she would just go.
Dr. Yellow hesitated before blurting, "But my patient is wanting to be friends with Ib Jule. That is something to worry about! She killed the three friends she had!"
Dr. Red's eyes widened at the yellow-eyed doctor's outburst. Then the words connected in her brain. "Really? This might be the thing that gets Ib to open up. Good job, Yellow."
Yellow Hall's mouth fell open in shock. "Hello! She's a murderer Red!"
Red waved off her worries. "She's safe here. Knives aren't even allowed here, and the staff will stop any attempts."
Yellow was still nervous about it, but decided to just go with it. Red apparently knew what she was doing.
The red-eyed doctor sat behind her desk and gestured to the door in the universal sign of dismissal. Yellow went to the exit with a spreading smirk on her face. "Too bad you won't be here tomorrow for the cherry pies."
Red frowned as her office door shut. She really liked the hospital's cherry pies.
~Garry~
Anxious was a good word to describe the state Garry was in. Twitchy might be another as he kept jerking his head to look out the window at the sun.
"It won't disappear, you know…" Dr. Blue brought his attention to the Common's doorway where she stood.
"What?" Garry asked.
"The sun. It won't disappear while you aren't looking." she repeated.
Garry scoffed at his doctor. "Why are you here anyways? I thought you were nocturnal."
"Hardly. I simply don't have time for you in the morning." she shot back.
Garry blinked at her. He couldn't tell if she was joking or not.
Dr. Blue gave her patient a wave. "The results of that test are in. I'll share during our appointment in 15 minutes." The doctor shut the door behind her and went on her merry way.
Garry twitched as he felt the room get darker and whirled around to see the sun being blocked by a rain cloud. "It did disappear." he said with disappointment.
He jumped in surprise when the door swung open again. Ib stared at his startled expression from the doorway before looking over the room with careful red eyes.
Garry realized that she was searching for something. "You left this here before." he called to her before she could slip away. He dug out the map from his coat pocket and offered it to her.
Ib approached Garry with a blank look on her face and an outstretched hand. "Thanks." she said once the map was in her grip, "But I would appreciate it if you didn't mention this to the doctors."
Garry happily nodded. He knew not to involve the hospital staff. Besides, he was sure the doctors would see no harm in the map.
Ib twitched the corner of her mouth upwards into an innocent looking smile before leaving the room. After a quick glance at the clock, Garry decided to follow Ib's example and leave for his appointment.
Dr. Blue happened to be on the phone when Garry entered her office. She glared with her sharp blue eyes and pointed to the couch. "Yes, we should be arriving tomorrow evening at the latest. We will need a room for 2 to 3 nights… I understand you have a plethora of tourists at this time of year… Well if you have a vacancy when we get there we'll take it… You have a fantastic day yourself." Dr. Blue hung up the phone with a grim expression on her face.
She closed her eyes and silently counted to ten. Her quick meditation was shattered by a voice at the couch. "What was that about?"
Dr. Blue shot Garry a cold glare before replying, "That is none of your business Mr. Baker." She dug the folder with Garry's information out of her desk and went to the chair beside the couch. The results of your test-"
"Hold on doctor." Garry interrupted with a clever smirk, "You told me yesterday that you wanted me to trust you. And now you are hiding things from me. Can I really trust you doctor?"
"You can trust me with your issues, but what goes on in my life has nothing to do with you." Dr. Blue argued.
"Your problems are just as important as mine. It isn't fair that I have to share but you don't."
Dr. Blue saw what he was trying to do. He was trying to gain more control over the situation he had been put in by lowering a respectable doctor to his level. Had she been any other person, she probably would have given in, but Dr. Blue was not having any of this.
"Enough!" she snapped, fixing Garry with her icy glare. "The results of your test are that you prefer warm subjects. You like the color red, which is the color leaves turn to in the autumn, and you said you liked Chemistry. You came up with answers that involved fire. You also mentioned that you had few friends. Daily interactions with humans is healthy, Mr. Baker."
"That's not always true…" Garry mumbled.
Dr. Blue readjusted her position on the chair. "You seem to like artsy things. And you mentioned liking to read. Didn't you work at a bookstore not long ago?" she continued.
The doctor waited a moment for Garry to answer, but when he didn't, she pressed on. "You were fired from the bookstore. Did your pyro tendencies interfere with your work performance?"
Again, Garry didn't answer. Dr. Blue blew her brown bangs out of her eyes. "Do not play childish games with me Mr. Baker. I will find the answers." she warned.
Garry glanced back at his doctor and mad a show of pressing his lips together firmly. They had an intense glaring contest, both waiting for the other to give. Finally, Garry had had enough. "I don't even remember what we were talking about!" he said in frustration.
The doctor eyed her patient warily. "Let's start by you explaining your job at the bookstore."
Garry exhaled loudly and started retelling. "I got the job at the end of school last year. It was a school assignment to at least apply for a job for summer. The owner of the Book Nook accepted me as an employee. I've worked there for two summers and on every weekend until the day I was arrested."
"You were fired before you damaged your neighbor's house. Are the two events connected in any way?"
The lavender haired man glared at the carpeted floor with disdain. "I was angry. I wanted to burn away my stress."
"By burning these?" The doctor shoved a blue rag doll in Garry's face.
A shrill scream escaped his gaping mouth as he flailed on the couch in surprise. The doctor's lips pursed sullenly, but her eyes held a flicker of amusement at the unexpected reaction. "You burn defenseless dolls. The scorched remains were found in a shallow pit on your property. Is there anything you want to discuss on this subject?" She tossed the hideous plaything at Garry's feet.
Garry gave the doll a hard kick. It soared and crashed into the far wall with a satisfying thunk. "I don't like that doll. It's ugly and I don't see how anyone normal could play with it." The patient crossed his arms in defensively.
Dr. Blue gave him a sharp look. "I don't like how you classify people as normal. It will offend others and kill your self-esteem."
Garry snorted before retorting, "That won't kill my self-esteem. I'm one of the normal people."
"Is that so?" the doctor eyed him with amusement again. With a glance at the clock, she announced, "I've kept you long enough. We'll see each other again in at least 3 days from now. Until then, Dr. Yellow will be in charge of you. She'll have appointments and activities for you while I'm gone."
"W-what! Where are you going?" Garry asked, brimming with curiosity.
"And I expect you to behave for her." Dr. Blue continued as though she hadn't heard him. "The poor dear has enough stress on her nerves without your childishness added to the mix."
"Ah! Nh… I'm not childish!" Garry protested.
Dr. Blue stood and shooed her patient off the couch. "Yes, yes you are a shining example of adulthood," she said while rolling her eyes, "Now leave. I'm very busy. Go make some friends or something. Social interaction is healthy for a young man."
Before he knew it, he found himself outside the office again with a closed door between him and his blue-eyed doctor. He couldn't help but feel as though she was shutting him out, both figuratively and literally. She was hiding something, and Garry was going to get to the bottom of it.
~Ib~
The famous art thief stared quizzically at the pale peach colored goop the cafeteria staff called pudding. It had a sour stench coming off it and it had to be lumpier than a sack of potatoes. Ib stirred it slowly with a plastic spoon, hoping to smooth out the gross lumps.
If she had sat at a table with other people, she might've been able to give the lumpy pudding to someone else while the staff wasn't looking. But since she was uneasy in crowds, she had to choke down the substance. If she didn't, she would bring negative attention to herself from the hospital staff.
The brunette hesitantly brought the pudding coated spoon to her mouth. Her chair lurched forward by someone bumping into it from behind, causing the spoon and the pudding to fall into her lap. Ib stiffened at the sight of her now ruined skirt.
She turned in her seat to glare at the person who rudely bumped her chair. The boy stood with his back to her, facing another man who held his hands out like he was going to push him. The one who bumped her chair looked like he was going to lash out in anger.
Ib tapped on the boy's wrist to grab his attention. "You caused me to dirty my favorite skirt." she informed him in a voice void of emotion.
The boy turned and Ib could see the pent up rage in his magenta eyes. The raw emotion cleared somewhat when he noticed the girl. "Huh?"
Ib repeated, "My skirt. You caused this." She gestured to the splotches of pudding and pointed at him accusingly.
"Hey don't blame me." The boy replied, throwing a glare at the other man, "He shoved me into you. For no reason."
The mentioned gentleman winked at Ib when she turned her eyes to him and went on his merry way. The boy closed his eyes, letting his fists slowly unclench as he breathed deeply.
With a grimace, Ib tried to mop off the pudding with a napkin and stood. The boy glanced at the dark stain when he cracked his eyes open again. "Sorry about the mess. I'm Wraith by the way."
"Ib," the girl said, "Just try not to do that again." The brunette turned and strode out of the cafeteria. She wasn't trying to be rude; she just wanted to change out of her pudding stained skirt before it got crusty.
Red and Blue are getting grumpy, aren't they? To confirm your thoughts, yes Red and Blue are sisters and Yellow is their cousin. I'm not exactly sure if Purple is going to be related as well...
Wraith is an OC by Dark Denizen. I didn't know characters could be requested into a story, but I need characters to fill my fake mental hospital. I'm not sure if I can make this into a romance. The last story I tried to focus on love became really corny.
Please continue to support this story by telling me what you think in the reviews. You can tell me what you like, what you don't like, what you want to see in this, what you don't want to see, ect. Thank you very much!
