Chapter 6: Secrets Plans, Run-aways
Rin stared out the window in longing. She's never done this much thinking before, but that was because she was with her friends and family. Now that they were gone, she has nothing to do but ponder. The human world was very different, there was nothing magical about it. The only thing that reminded her of fairy magic was her own; she often played with the sun's rays with her hands.
"Hey," Rin turned around to see Len, who had just arrived from school, "how's it going?"
The petite creature flew up to him and smiled, "I'm fine. How was school?"
He groaned, "Oh God, don't get me started. Too many things went down to register today. Ring and Lui are finally together, that was the first shocker. Also, according to Dell, Tei moved out of the city. You have no idea on how relieved I was to hear…"
Rin had a hard time keeping up with his story. Len never explained who it was he was talking about. The only thing she heard was 'Mikuo's way too immature' or 'Why can't Ring and Lui confess already?' and the infamous 'I hate Tei'. She would really like to go to school with Len, but it was filled with humans. She didn't know how it is Len would react to it, either, so she never asked.
Until now.
She cleared her throat, trying to grab Len's attention, "Can I ask you something?"
He nodded, a bit worried. Rin took a big breath and finally asked, "CanIgotoschoolwithyou?"
Len tilted his head, confused. Rin asked slowly this time, "Can I go to school with you?"
The blonde boy jumped up in alarm, "NO!"
Rin raised a brow, "Why?"
A bit flustered about his earlier actions, he blushed and said, "Dell goes to my school. If he ever found you, he would immediately bring you to my father. And trust me, you don't want that. I don't want to put you in danger…"
Rin's cheeks turned a bit pink at his concern, but she kept going, "I can hide in your backpack!"
"You need sun-"
"I can come out whenever your alone."
"What about air-"
"Like I said, I'll come out when no one's around."
"And my friends-"
"I know you think they're crazy, but I would love to meet them!"
Len pouted, knowing he had lost the battle. He sighed and muttered an angry 'fine' and laid on his bed. He looked over his shoulder to see Rin standing on his desk, "I'm going to take a nap. Stay in here, alright? And if my parents or Lenka come in-"
She rolled her eyes, "I hide, I know. You tell me this every time you leave and sleep."
He scowled, but said nothing more as he let sleep take over.
"NERUUUUUU~"
"…"
"NERUUUUUUUUUUUUU~"
"…"
"NERU AKITA!"
"WHAT THE FUDGE DO YOU WANT?!"
"… I'm tired. And hungry."
Neru glared at the boy, "STOP COMPLAINING! We have to find Rin, ASAP! I only have so much time left, Nero, so much…!"
The slightly older boy's face lit up as he said, "I got it! I can just call over a bird to help us!"
Neru face-palmed, "Nero, how in hell did you just think about this now? You're a freaking ANIFAIRY, for Pete's sake!"
He shrugged and whistled a small tune, grabbing the attention of a nearby bird flying in the sky. The beautiful creature flew over to them and chirped, seeming to have a conversation with the little male fairy. After a bit, Neru saw Nero nod and turn to look at her, "She's offering us a ride, Neru, let's go!"
"For free or for food?"
"… For food."
Neru sighed, but flew onto the bird's back, regardless. She turned towards Nero and asked, "What kind of food does she want?"
He smiled, "Just a couple berries. Do you think you can make some?"
She shrugged, "I kinda need a seed for my powers to work."
Nero gave her a disbelieving look, "I thought Naturalists didn't need seeds. You know, mind power…"
The honey-blonde girl rolled her eyes, "And I thought Anifaries were smart, so I guess we're both wrong."
"Hey!" He pouted, "I'm not stupid! Just… Care-free…"
"'Care-free'?" Neru laughed.
The boy smirked, "Hey, I make you laugh, don't I? It comes in handy~" He gave her a playful wink, causing Neru to blush a bit.
She refused to admit it. She wouldn't say it, nor show it in anyway. Never ever.
But she loved his laugh.
She shook the thought away and punched Nero lightly on the shoulder, "Don't be such a Leon."
He laughed, "His majesty wouldn't like that, Neru. Bad, bad Neru!"
They continued making jokes and enjoying each other's company for the rest of the day, thankful for the time spent alone.
Rei groaned as he stared into a semi-grey ball made of swirling black smoke. He looked up at the fortuneteller and frowned, "They're getting close to finding her highness."
The elder girl nodded, "Indeed they are, my Prince."
The raven-haired boy tried to think of something, anything, that could delay them for just a bit. Anything that didn't include violence…
But if he wanted more time, there was no other choice, huh?
Deciding that it was the (somewhat) right thing to do, he stared into the pixie's eyes, "Do you still have control over Furies?"
The tall girl flipped some loose strands of her hair over her shoulder and gave the small prince an almost knowing smile, "Yes, I do. May I ask why, your highness?"
He looked down, not really wanting to request such a thing, but it had to be done, "I need one to stab, I repeat, STAB, not KILL, one of the fairies that's out looking for Princess Rin."
"Ah," her smile widened, and Rei felt a bit uncomfortable by how wide it was, "it shall be done."
And with a snap of her fingers, she was gone.
Rei inwardly groaned, "You're going to kill one, aren't you, Mew?" He left the room, a heavy feeling of guilt weighing down on his shoulders.
'I'm so sorry, you two… I need more time…'
Little did he know, though, Rui had been listening in on his meeting with Mew. And she didn't like it one bit. She followed after her master, making sure to keep close to him in case he needed anything. As they both walked down the long, dark hallway, Rui decided to try to have a conversation with her friend, "Rei, what exactly did you see Mew for?"
She already knew the answer, but she wanted to hear Rei's response. She felt a bit disappointed when he lied, "Not much, really. Just wanted to see my future with Rin…"
"Ah," she tried hardly to keep smiling at the mention of the girl, "your bride-to-be, right?"
The amber-eyed boy nodded, "Uh-huh."
Rui was about to ask something else when one of the queen's messengers suddenly came flying towards them. The tired man bowed in respect once he reached the prince and smiled slightly, "Her highness, Queen Prima, wishes to have a word with you."
Rei frowned, "Now?"
When the tired man nodded, he immediately motioned for Rui to follow him. Knowing his mother, it was probably something important, and he wanted a sort of support in case things got ugly. And his suspicions were only proven right when he entered into the throne room, only to see his mother blasting the former king with dark magic.
Prima's usually bright and mischievous eyes showed nothing but pure hatred as she stared at her enemy, "Why don't you just die, huh, Oliver? You've been nothing but a thorn on my side for FAR too long."
"Prima," Oliver tried his best to keep his wife and eldest son protected from Prima's rage, "please, Nero and Neru are looking for my daughter right now, and plus, she doesn't even know about this engagement! Just give us more time-"
"Time?" She laughed, causing the rest of the people in the room to start feeling uncomfortable, "YOU'RE begging ME for TIME? How long have you had to tell the girl about this deal, huh? You've had MORE than enough time, and you have the nerve…!"
When Rei saw that she was intertwining her hands above her head, he decided this had gone too far and he planned on stopping it, "WAIT!"
He silently watched as his mother's eyes softened a bit, and she fluttered back down in her seat and gave him a warm smile, "My sweet little Rei, what brings you here?"
Rei frowned, "You sent a messenger to get me, did you not…?"
Prima gave it a bit of thought before smacking her palm against her forehead, "Ah-ha, I feel so silly! I must've forgotten while I was fighting with Oliver." She made an uncaring gesture towards the said man, "You remember Uncle Oliver, right?"
Her son nodded, "Of course I do. Is there a reason as to why you sent for me?"
"There is, actually," she crossed one leg over the other and rested her elbows on the table, "I've been meaning to talk to you about Princess Rin."
"Oh," Rei gulped, "why is that?"
Prima smiled happily and said, "Good news! I've gotten a report back from a raven I have sent to spy on them. They're getting closer to finding the lost girl, it seems. With any luck, this wedding should be happening before the end of the week!"
'That's what you think,' Rei bit his tongue to keep him from voicing his thoughts, "That's… Great, mother…"
Leon, who was a bit upset about the whole ordeal, finally decided to complain, "Shouldn't you guys think about my little sister's feelings?" He specifically looked at his father, "She doesn't even know a thing! How do you expect her to go through marriage if she barely finds out just hours before the ceremony?!"
Oliver gave his son a look that matched what Leon felt, "We have to make peace between our lands and the dark lands. That's the only way to ensure safety to our people."
Leon huffed, but he knew that making an argument with his father was futile. Instead, he marched out from the room, glaring at Rei as if he was the cause of all his problems.
Because, in a way, he was.
The young prince sighed as he reached his room. What if he had been born last, and Rin first? Would he have been married off instead of her? He remembered hearing his father tell him about a possible engagement with Prima's daughter when he was very young. Supposedly, Prima had a daughter on the way, but it seemed someone from a nearby kingdom wanted revenge, so her baby was killed before it was ever born and Leon was off the hook. But if the little thing had somehow managed to survive, would Rin be free to marry whomever her heart chose?
All he ever wanted was for little Rin to be happy, but it seems he failed at doing so. He looked up at the moon through his window, looking at it as if the moon itself was the answer to all his problems. 'No wonder you ran off, Rin.'
Ran off… A sudden idea came to him. Without thinking, he immediately packed everything he would be needing for his plan. When he was done, he ran towards his sister's room and packed anything else he needed. Once he was sure he had everything, he walked towards the square hole in his sister's room and pointed his palms at the moon. Since moonlight was just reflected sunlight used to keep Royals healthy through the night, he used his magic, causing strands of silver light to come towards him. He quickly played with it a little, leaving behind a moonlit message for anyone who questioned his disappearance.
When he was done, he flew outside and kept flying, not once looking back. He smiled as he soared through the night air, "I'll find you, Rin. Then, you won't have to worry about this whole engagement."
A.N./ Why doesn't Rin's room have windows? 'Cause fairies said 'screw it' and didn't bother understanding glass. XD Also, I'll (less than) probably get a question about this, so here we go. Next chapter will be mentioning furies, which is a creature I made up (hopefully). They act and look a lot like pixies, but aside from the mischievousness, Furies have a short-temper, are very destructive, often go along with what everyone else is doing and are very persuasive, meaning that whoever acts like the leader IS the leader in their eyes. So when Rei asked Mew if she still had control over Furies, he was basically asking if they still thought she was their leader. So, long explanation aside, review, please~ :)
