Chapter 2: Len Kagamine
"Yo, New One!"
Kaito frowned as he saw one of the blondes from yesterday walk towards him. He had been reading a book that he had to do a report on (on the first week of school? He couldn't believe it either), and he quite enjoyed both the plot and the silence.
That is, until he was so rudely interrupted by the idiot.
'Why can't he stop calling me that?! It makes me feel like an extraterrestrial…' Kaito kept the thought in mind as he looked up to a pair of blue eyes and frowned, "Yes?"
The boy, completely oblivious to Kaito's displeasure, smiled and said, "Wanna hang out with us? It would do you better than sticking around her…"
Since the blonde apparently couldn't take hints, Kaito decided it would be best to be blunt. "No. Leave me alone, and for Pete's sake, STOP calling me 'New One'!"
He shrugged, "Isn't that what you are? Anyways, why the hell not? I'm sure Luka would LOVE to take a look at 'ya!"
"First off," Kaito explained, "I don't know who Luka nor you are. Stranger danger, dude. Secondly, why would this 'Luka' love to look at me? Is having a new student uncommon?"
The young boy decided to give him an answer. "It's almost unheard of around here."
Kaito raised a brow (a thing he had been doing a lot since he came here) but decided not to question it. If anything, the answers he received only made him more curious, and he had enough of that already. He continued where he left off, "Third, I haven't gotten your name and you've been talking to me since yesterday. Let's do introductions, yeah? Name's Kai-"
"Kaito Shion," the blonde sighed, "I know. Since I know yours, I guess it's only fair for you to know mine. Kagamine. Len Kagamine."
Kaito's lips pulled up a bit. At least he knows ONE of the "twins" now. He looked at Len and asked, "What's the name of your look-alike?"
Len shook his head, "Not telling~ Besides, you should know by now…" And with a laugh, he walked away and sat back down in his desk. Kaito swore he heard him mumble something about 'short-time memory', but he decided not to dwell on it.
About a minute later, the teacher walked inside the classroom. He waltzed towards his spot behind the teacher's desk and gave off a radiant smile and a playful wink. "Hello, future writers! Now, I know you're supposed to address me as 'Mister', but that simply will not do! To heck with formality! Call me Leon, dearies~"
A couple of the girls in the class swooned, but a certain blonde was less than amused. "Dad, what did I tell you before classes started? STOP BEING A GODDAMN FLIRT!"
Sadness washed over the man's eyes, but it came and went by so quick, nobody had seen it. He sat down and rested his elbow on the desk, doing the same with his head and his palm, "Aw, but Rinners, being professional is BORING~ Who agrees with me?"
Nearly all the hands that belonged to a female went up in less than a second. The only ones who disapproved of the behavior was the boys, but most of all, the man's daughter. She scowled and said, "If it's so boring, why don't you quit the goddamn job!"
Leon 'tsk'ed and shook his head, "You see, dear Rinny, the only reason I took the job was to make sure none of these hormone-driven teenage males touched my pride and joy! You know how worried I am whenever you're gone to school?! I think 'what if my little girl is getting raped right now? Oh God, I need to get the car keys…!'"
As the man started to get up and act out his truthful, heart-felt worry, the students began to laugh. A couple males gave the blonde girl a look of disgust, and the girls only pointed at her and began to talk.
She hated everyone. Especially her father.
Kaito didn't let out a single sound. He really didn't see what was so funny. He could see it in the man's green orbs; the genuine worry and concern he felt for his daughter (even if he was acting like an idiot about it). He wasn't much of an observer, but after an 'Adventure Phase' in his childhood, he got used to seeing that type of look in his mother's eyes. He got SO used to it, he could recognize it anywhere. Everyone in the room was a bunch of idiotic jerks in his mind. Did they not see? The poor girl…
But, Leon did reveal her name for him. 'Rinners' and 'Rinny'… The were obviously nicknames. But to what? A couple of possible names were starting to pop up in his head, the main one being 'Rin'. That one had to most likely be the name…
"… Kaito?"
He snapped his head up and raised his hand. It seems the man had finished his little act and decided to take attendance. Kaito found it weird, none of the other teachers did attendance… Maybe it was because he was new? He decided to not think about it for too long.
"Shut up. Y'know what, let's go to lunch, Rin."
He blinked. Then, the feeling that came with stupidity began to sink in. How could he have forgotten? It had happened yesterday! He banged his head against the desk. He felt so stupid… But, he knew both of their names now. Rin and Len…
Kaito promised himself he'd keep a close eye on those two.
English ended with an over-dramatic scene from Leon. Most of the class had been laughing their butts off, except for two blondes and Kaito, who weren't amused at all.
"… alone? It'd be so boring! You know how Luka tends to ramble on and on about whatever book she's …"
Kaito recognized the voice as Len's, and judging by the response he got, he thought it was Rin he was talking to. He stayed by to watch, but when he turned around, the conversation between the two ended and Len looked far from happy. The blonde stomped towards Kaito's desk and slammed his hands on the old surface, making the poor boy nearly jump. "You're coming with me whether you like it or not!" And with that, Len grabbed him by his shirt collar and walked away, not sparing a second thought on Kaito's resistance.
The blue haired teen gave up and stayed limp in Len's hold. It was embarrassing, terribly so. So, it was only normal for his cheeks to turn a bit pink from all the stares they were getting. Then, after what felt like an eternity, the angry boy released his hold on his shirt. Kaito sat down in a seat next to Len and looked up to see two unfamiliar faces.
The first one that caught his attention was… Was… Actually, he couldn't tell what gender this person is. She/He had long violet hair tied into a simple ponytail. The girl next to him/her had a pretty simple appearance. Her pink locks were flowing down her back and stopped at her waist (or so he guessed, the table was in the way, so he couldn't see the length), and she wore a pair of black glasses. The pink-haired girl gave Len a look of confusion. "Who's this?"
Len calmed his anger down and answered, "This is New One. You wanted to meet him, yeah, Luka?"
Luka nodded and practically launched her head closer to look into Kaito's deep blue orbs. After a bit of concentrating, she gasped and said, "THERE'S SOMETHING THERE!"
The heads of everyone in the room turned towards their small, round table of five. Luka paid no mind to the attention, however, and turned towards Len. "It's faint, but it's there! Definitely there!"
Kaito blushed a little, not used to being the center of attention, "W-What are you t-talking about…?"
The purple-haired person on Luka's right sighed, "Maybe your eyes are playing tricks on you, m'lady. ('Ah, so he's male.') He doesn't even know about this type of thing! How can we possibly explain it to him …"
Kaito could only stare with deep confusion as the trio in front of him started having an argument. What were they talking about, anyways? He decided to try and escape, but the violet-haired boy's voice stopped him. "Where do you think you're going? Sit your ass down!"
'He didn't even look up!' Kaito looked at him in awe. Just then, Rin had walked towards them with her lunch. She sat down on the empty spot between Gakupo and Kaito and sighed, "I am going to absolutely HATE this year… And if dad has his way, I'm going to hate next year, too."
Luka gave her a look of concern. "Isn't your dad the new English teacher? Why, did he do something?"
Len slammed his hands on the table. "The goddamn womanizer flirted with all the girls in our class!"
Rin let out a 'humph', "The damn bastard. I don't want to talk about the idiot, let's talk about New One here." She turned her head towards the right and looked at Kaito directly in the eyes, "What brings you to our small table of five?"
He glared. "Len. Len brought me to your 'small table of five'."
The blonde boy shrugged, "I was pissed off at Leon for keeping Rin in, so I guess I took my anger out on you…" He thought about his actions and frowned, "Dude, I'm sorry. I must've given you a bit of a scare…"
Kaito shook his head. "It's alright, I don't really care anymore." He looked around at each of them and asked the one question that's been in his head for a while. "Why are there five seats here? Isn't there only four of you?"
They all shrugged, but no one answered the question.
After one hectic lunch, the bell rang for the students to go back to their classrooms. Kaito gave out a sigh of relief. He didn't know how much more arguments (and looks from Luka) he could take in one day. Suddenly, he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see the girl that had helped him on his first day; Miku. He smiled. "Is there something you need?"
Miku shook her head. "No. You ate with them, didn't you?"
Kaito gave her a puzzled look. "Is there something wrong-"
"What did Luka say when she saw you?"
"Nothing," he gave her an even more confused stare and continued, "just something about 'it being there'. Why?"
Her eyes widened, but she shook her head afterwards. "No reason! Just… Curious…" She excused herself and ran off.
'… Is it that important?' Kaito couldn't help but let his mind wander over today's events. If everyone in this school is as weird as the five he'd recently met, there's no way he'd be able to survive the rest of the year. He sighed as he entered the classroom. Maybe he could transfer again… But, there's no way his mother would accept when he'd only been here for merely five days. He wished he could go back home, his original home… Everything was just so simple there, and he greatly missed the place in where he was raised...
"SHION!"
He jumped a bit and looked at the teacher, "Y-Yes, sir?"
The man glared at him, "What's the answer to problem number sixteen in your book?"
Kaito looked down at his textbook, only to see it was closed. He quickly opened it, but he had no clue on what page it is they were on. He tried taking a guess and hoped the problem was multiple-choice. "B-B?"
A few classmates snickered at his answer and the teacher frowned, "This is a word problem, Mr. Shion, not multiple choice. And next time," the tall man walked towards his desk and looked at the embarrassed boy in the eye, "think twice before daydreaming in my class."
The teen nodded furiously, not wanting to make his Algebra teacher anymore aggravated than he already was. Mr. Al gave him a slight nod before hurrying back towards the board, "Continuing, if you do this…"
Suddenly, Kaito felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He looked over at Mr. Al to find him busy writing on the old blackboard. As silently as he could, he took out his phone and looked at his messages:
To: Kaito Shion
From: Unknown
Subject: Bored, let's talk!
Hey, it's Len! ;D Wanna txt? Better than listening to Mc. Meanypants… Btw, nice save~ XD
His cheeks dusted a light shade of pink at the last sentence. He pouted and typed:
To: Unknown
From: Kaito Shion
Subject: RE: Bored, let's talk!
First, how in hell did you get my #? And hey! I was thinking about something… :(
To: Kaito Shion
From: Unknown
Subject: RE: RE: Bored, let's talk!
I have my ways~ (And no, I'm not stlking u.) Thnkng 'bout what, dude? *gasp* Crshing on someone already? xD
When Kaito saw Mr. Al turn around, he hid his phone. But, as soon as he went back to the blackboard, he looked at the bright screen and blushed a bit as he read the last bit.
To: Unknown
From: Kaito Shion
Subject: RE: RE: RE: Bored, let's talk!
No, you idiot! I was thinking about my home over in Hokkaido...
His reply made him feel as if the blonde knew a bit too much about him.
To: Kaito Shion
From: Unknown
Subject: RE: RE: RE: RE: Bored, let's talk!
Your from Sapporo, right? I'm totally right, aren't I? x) Why'd you move here, anyway?
Kaito would've replied but then he heard Mr. Al's booming voice threatened to nearly destroy his eardrums.
"KAGAMINE! GIVE ME THAT PHONE, RIGHT NOW!"
"Yo, dude!"
Kaito nearly growled as he turned around to face Len. "What do you want?"
Len put his arms up in defense as he said, "Whoa; angry, much?" He ignored the glare Kaito gave him. "Chill, I just came over to apologize!"
The slightly-troubled teen sighed but said nothing else as he continued on his way home, ignoring the annoyed 'hey!' that came out of the blonde's mouth.
After Len had been found texting in class by Mr. Al, he assigned the lad detention. Afterwards, he found out the receiver of the texts was Kaito, and he gave him detention as well for 'not being mature enough to just ignore his phone and continue on with his work', as the adult oh-so-kindly put it. The bastard...
But, it wasn't really that that bothered him so much. He had a little sister he had to pick up from elementary everyday after school let out. Not to mention his younger twin brothers in middle school... How could he possibly pick them up next Wednesday if he was stuck in the library doing nothing? Maybe he could negotiate with his twin brothers and have them pick up the little girl... The elementary school wasn't that far from their middle school, and-
"Gee, you have way too much on your mind for me to keep up..."
The words were mumbled, but Kaito still caught them. He turned around to see Miku staring intently into the back (well, now the front) of his face. The girl, realizing she's been caught, let out a little 'eek!' of shock before turning around and running the other way after mumbling a rushed apology.
Kaito raised an eyebrow at the action before shrugging nonchalantly. He had concluded that everyone in the school was weird long ago, and all that was happening was probably normal occurrences for others.
And so, the blue haired teen turned back around and continued on his way to pick up his younger siblings.
A.N./ Man, this took me too long to type, but I finally finished it! Just had a bit of writer's block in the middle of it, is all, but I think updates may come more frequently for this story... Maybe. x)
