Mustangs kid chapter 4
Don't own anything.
Start.
"Wake up!"Roy snapped as he threw the curtains open.
Light flooded into his sons room, revealing the now five year old boy still asleep in his bed. Roy had already told him to wake up several times and sighed when the boy remained unmoving.
"Come on Ed!"He walked over to him "It's your first day of kindergarten! Elisya will be waiting for you.".
"Five more minutes!"Ed groaned.
Roy glared at him.
"Up. Now! That is an order!"He said.
Ed looked up at him strangely as his face turned red in embarrassment. He had spoken to the boy as if he was his commander Just like he had spoken to Fullmetal...
"Get up. Now."He quickly left the room.
Ed rolled over again and came face to face with the alarm clock. His eyes grew wide as he read the time. Suddenly the fact that his father had spoken to him like that was forgotten as he bolted out of bed and rushed to get ready. After all, he only had fifteen minutes to get to the school. Roy entered the kitchen and poured his coffee. Riza was already there fixing her son breakfast.
"Is Ed up yet?"She asked.
"Yeah.."He said.
She frowned.
"What did you say to him?"She said.
Roy looked up and smiled regretfully at her.
"You see right through me."He said "I ordered him to get up and get dressed.".
"It's not your fault. He looks so much like Edward."She smiled.
"That's the problem."Roy sighed "I don't want to think about my son as Edward Elric. He's his own person. It's not fair to him.".
"He isn't Edward. He doesn't even act like him."Riza reassured him "I know you took his death hard.".
"He was solider that passed away in the line of duty. No different than any one else."Roy said "It's been five years.".
"You cared about those boys as if they were your own."Riza said sadly "Why don't you visit Edward?".
Roy's grip on his coffee cup tightened.
"You know I can't do that."He said.
"After you drop Ed off. Go."She said.
Ed wandered into the kitchen in his school uniform. It consisted of black dress pants, a navy blue shirt and a red tie. Riza smiled, swooping down on him and hugging him.
"You look so adorable!"She cooed "So grown up!".
"Mom!"Ed whined as she snapped a picture.
"I'm sorry."She said "You look very handsome.".
"I look like a fool."Ed mumbled.
"Don't sweat it Ed."Roy smiled "Everyone will be dressed like you.".
Ed cheered up a bit at this information and sat to eat breakfast. Riza looked at the clock.
"Edwaaaaarrrddd!"A flash of red, black and blue flew at him and tackled him off his chair.
Elisya stood up and pulled him into a hug. She stood a few inches taller than him, seeing as she was a year older.
"You look so cute!"She giggled as his face flushed red.
"Elisya!"He said.
Riza held in a laugh as she watched her son and his best friend. Roy looked around for Hughes, who burst into the kitchen a moment latter.
"Hello Hughes. Come right in."Roy said in a sarcastic tone.
"Don't be like that."Hughes said, holding up his camera "I had to see Ed and Elisya on their very first day of school together!".
He snapped a picture which made Ed blush even harder, if possible. Elisya pulled Ed out of the kitchen with him protesting all the way.
"Were going to be late!"Elisya said.
"Coming dear."Hughes said.
Riza, Hughes, and Roy excited the building to see Elisya dragging Ed into the car. They smiled as they climbed into the car with their children and it started off in the direction of the elementary school. Elisya didn't stop hugging Ed the whole ride.
"I wish you were going to be in my class!"She said "I'll be lonely.".
"Sorry."Ed said "We can still play at recess?".
Elisya smiled and pecked him on the cheek.
Hughes looked protectively at her before he caught Roy's glance. The two burst out laughing. They pulled up to the school. Riza handed Ed his backpack and he excited the car followed by Elisya. Their parents smiled at them.
"Have a good day at school sweetie!"Hughes called after her "If boys try anything,-".
He paused to cock his gun, a evil glint in his eyes.
"Let daddy deal with them!".
Roy smacked him in the back of the head and looked out the window at his son, who was still in Elisya's clutches. The girl was laughing.
"Don't get into trouble."He said.
"By honey!"Riza called.
The car rolled away. Ed waved as he was dragged away.
"This is your room."Elisya smiled as she stopped in front of her former classroom.
He glanced in to see kids crowding inside. For he first time, he realized he would be away from his one and only friend.
"I'll see you on the playground?"She asked.
He nodded. She smiled and before he noticed, she was gone and he was alone in the hall. A ringing sound came from everywhere at once as kids filed into the room. He hurried up and rushed inside too. The room was colorful and arranged. All the kids were taking seats. Specific seats, to be exact.
"Hello little guy!"A women said, kneeling down.
"I'm Edward Alexander Mustang. Nice to meet you miss."He held out his hand to her like his father had taught him to do when he met someone new.
She smiled.
"My so formal!"She said "You must be the son of the Flame alchemist, Roy Mustang.".
She guided him to a seat and gave him a name tag to tape to his desk. As he placed his name tag, the teacher began the lesson.
"Today we'll be starting a reading unit from the literature text book."She exclaimed.
Everyone opened their text books to the page number indicated on the board. Ed groaned. He had already learned to read so he thought the assignment was a bit boring.
"Edward?"The teacher asked "Would you pick up where Tanya left off?".
"Yes mam."He said, despite his attitude toward the assignment "See Spot jump. Jane saw Spot jump.".
As he completed the reading, another student picked up. After fifteen minutes, he had grown tired of the text book. Using a technique he had picked up from his uncle Havoc to hide dirty magazines, he slid an alchemy book out of his desk and slid it into his textbook. From the outside it would look like he was studying his text book diligently, even though that wasn't the case. By lunchtime, he had covered most of the twelfth chapter, where he had left off. He closed his text book and stuck it in his desk and ran off to find Elisya. Once he had gone, the teacher walked over and took the book out. She looked shocked when she flipped it open to reveal the alchemy book within it. So that's what was more important than the lesson. If he could understand this, then he didn't need the lesson. It was lunchtime at the military office. Roy Mustang had other plans, however. It was midday and the sun beat down on him as he stood in front of the small tombstone. It looked sad and lonely as if it had been abandon. Roy always wondered if Fullmetal felt abandon here alone. He dismissed the assumption deeming it ridiculous that a dead person could feel something. The polished rock reflected sunlight as if it were happy now that someone was there.
"Dam it Fullmetal."Roy said in a tone that was almost a whisper "Why the hell did you do it? You abandoned your brother and threw your life away all because of a little grief.".
The sunlight flickered and dimmed and Roy could almost hear what he thought Ed's response would be.
"I know that Colonial bastard. Stop rubbing it in!".
He smiled a sad half smile as gazed up at the sky. A lone tear fell.
"Take care kid."He sighed.
Without another word, he walked away. The sunlight faded completely and the stone sat there dull and lonely. Abandoned once again. Ed scanned the play ground for his friend. His golden eyes landed on the second grader that had her backed up against a fence on the opposite side of the playground. He began walking over to her, wondering if the second grader was one of her friends. Heck, he looked big enough to be a third grader. When he was close enough, he saw that she seemed to be upset.
"Let's be realistic here."The older boy said "I'm older, bigger, and stronger than you. Therefore I can easily hurt you. Are you going to apologize?".
"For defending my dad?"She said bravely "No!".
He picked her up and pushed her against the fence.
"Your dad is a military scumbag."He said "Now. I think you owe me an apology.".
"No."She said.
Ed was already scribbling furiously on the ground. He tried to keep his head clear and remind himself that he promised he would be good, but with his one friend being threatened... He stood, kicking some wood into the drawing and called over to the boy.
"Hey!"He snapped "Who taught you to pick on a lady?".
The kid looked over at him, an annoyed look on his face.
"Her dad works for the military."He responded as if it made perfect sense.
"My parents do too."Ed said.
"Her dad aids the state alchemist."He said "I doubt your parents do anything but paperwork.".
He turned back to Elisya and ignored Ed. Ed was furious that the boy would target Elisya just because her father worked to help state alchemist. Elisya looked over at her friend in concern.
"Stay out of this Ed!"She said.
"My dads a state alchemist."Ed said.
The boy stopped and turned to him. Elisya glared at him, although he noticed her eyes held a hint of fear.
"Colonial Roy Mustang, the flame alchemist."Ed stated comely.
"Bastard."The boy let go of Elisya and headed toward Ed.
"Run Ed!"Elisya snapped at him.
The boy stopped right in front of him and pulled his fist backwards, ready to sock him in the gut. Just as he threw his punch, Ed ducked and activated the transmutation circle he had drawn. A cage forged from the large amount of wood he had thrown into the array rose up and trapped the boy. Ed dashed over to Elisya who looked at him stunned. The boy was shocked, to say the least and it didn't take long for him to start kicking at the cage. It chipped and slowly started to break apart. It was only made of solid sand and sticks after all.
"Lets go before he gets loose."He looked over at the kid.
The two dashed across the playground and finally came to a stop at the top of the play set. Ed surveyed the area for any sign that they had been followed while Elisya huffed at him.
"I can't believe you did that!"She snapped.
"What? Saved you from a beating?"He asked.
The two were standing up facing each other now. Other children ignored them as they climbed up and down, playing games with their own friends. Ed, who was about two and a half feet tall, was still a few inches shorter than Elisya but, he didn't back down.
"I told you I could handle it. Don't you trust me?"She asked.
"I do!"He said frustrated "I just didn't want to see you hurt.".
She sighed.
"Your to kind for your own good sometimes."She said 'You need to think about your safety too.".
Ed turned red when she hugged him. It was soon time to reenter the class rooms. Ed's teacher apprehended him outside the door. He gulped visibly when he saw she held his fathers alchemy book he had borrowed.
"I see you've been practicing the things you've learned in this book."She said.
He nodded slowly.
"What gives you the right to use alchemy for evil?"She asked.
"Pardon?"He asked.
"I for one am shocked that a five year old knows alchemy at all. But to think that you used it to trap a third grader?"The teacher scolded.
"He was bullying my friend. He threatened to beat her up and he tried to beat me up."Ed stated.
"I see."The teacher said "Still. That gives you no right to misuse your talent.".
"May I take my punishment right now?"Ed asked apologetic.
"Yes. You are to stand in the corner for the remainder of this hour after you have apologized to the boy you trapped. I will ensure he apologizes to you for his attempted assault as well.".
She marched him to the child's class where he apologized and received a forced apology in return. As soon as he was standing in the corner, she left her class to call and notify his parents.
Roy looked up as the door to his office banged open. A few gunshots were heard around the office as he dived under his desk. Bullet holes suddenly appeared above his head in the wall.
"What the hell Hawkeye!"He snapped.
"Don't you what the hell me Roy Mustang!"She entered the room all the way.
"Can you tell me why you tried to take my head off!?"He asked annoyed as he peeked up from under his desk.
"How long has our son been studying alchemy!?"She snapped.
"F-For about a year."He said in a small voice.
She cocked her gun and put another bullet hole next to his head as he attempted to look out from behind his desk at her.
"You taught him alchemy?!"She asked.
"Hey whats all the commotion about?"Havoc and Fuery peeked in.
Riza whirled on them, hells fires in her eyes.
"Family discussion. Leave."She snapped.
Havoc gulped and ran after Fuery who had already left. Turning back to her boyfriend, she waited for an answer.
"N-No. He picked up the Introduction to Alchemy and figured it out first. Then I had to exclaim the equivalent exchange process and tell him what he should never do with alchemy.".
"I can't believe you!"She snapped "Leaving a book like that where a child could reach it!".
"Well excuse me for thinking a four year old wouldn't figure it out."He said.
"He didn't figure it out!"Riza snapped "He did some guesswork, got something right and then you taught him. I thought we weren't going to let him become a military weapon.".
"He won't."Roy said.
"You know how he looks up to you!"Riza said "Of course he'll want to follow in your footsteps.".
She put another bullet hole above his head and stomped across the room.
"Lt. Havoc!"She called.
"Y-Yes?"He stepped inside the room nervously.
"I'm putting you in charge of making sure Roy finishes his work. Don't let him leave until it's all done.".
"Yes mam."Havoc saluted.
Riza left.
"You sure pissed her off."Havoc said "You couldn't have told her you taught Ed a little alchemy?".
Roy shook his head and continued working, determined to get home and apologize.
"Guess your sleeping on the couch tonight."Havoc said.
"Shut up.".
End chap 4.
Sorry this chapter was kind of boring.
