Chapter 22: Superpowers
2016
It had been a month and a half since Olivia had last talked to or seen her father. It didn't affect her as much as she thought it would, probably because even when they were on good terms, she was always busy with school anyway, but there was a bit of a void left in her. Even though she still was still extremely pissed off and hurt by her father's comments, she couldn't help but miss the rest of her family—her brothers and even Becca. She didn't spend that much time with them to begin with but she hated the fact that just because of her father's unaccepting attitude, she couldn't even go to her own home and see them. But she wasn't budging. He would just have to eventually accept her and Fitz because Fitz was her endgame.
It's Friday evening and while waiting for Fitz to get home, Olivia decides to just get in some studying before he got home. She noticed a pattern that had been going on for months between them. Every Friday afternoon or evening as soon as either one of them got home, they would high-tail it to their bedroom and make love for hours on end as an end of the week de-stressor. It wasn't something planned, it just happened, and she had noticed that he had been more stressed than usual this past week so that meant they would be going at it for a while and she was giddy for it.
Her dirty thoughts are interrupted by her phone ringing so she answers without checking the caller id, thinking it was Fitz calling her, "Hey, babe, you better hurry home because I'm wearing your favorite outfit of mine and I'm super horny…" she says seductively.
"Ugh, Liv, I did not need to hear that!" She hears her brother complain on the other end.
"Simon! What are you—? You know what, just forget everything you heard," she tells him quickly, feeling more embarrassed in this moment than she had ever been before.
"I'm really going to try to…gross…"
She rolls her eyes. "Whatever. What do you want?"
"I just wanted to know how you were doing. Dad finally broke down and told us what was going on…I can't believe you're dating Mr. Grant."
"His name is Fitz and he's not a teacher anymore. And if you called me to say that you disapprove and that you think our relationship is messed up just because he was my teacher and he's a few years older than me, then you can save your breath because I'm not changing my mind."
"Okay, then. I know it's none of my business but I just want you to be careful. I don't want you to be taken advantage by some guy, no matter how much you claim to love him or vice versa."
"Are you done lecturing me?"
He sighs. "Yeah…are you really not coming home? At least come by to see Matt and Xav…and well, me. I only have a week left here before I fly back to MIT."
"Why don't you guys come over? I don't want to be within even hundred yards of Dad right now," she says truthfully.
"I don't know…." He says uneasily.
"Just because Fitz was our teacher once doesn't mean it's going to be awkward," she says, knowing what he was thinking. "Just think of him only as my boyfriend."
"That makes it even more awkward…"
She rolls her eyes again. "Well, hearing Abby constantly gush about you guys can be awkward but I put up with it. You owe me."
He scoffs. "I don't owe you anything."
"What if I can get Abby to come? Would you reconsider?"
"I don't know, maybe…"
"So, it's a yes."
"I didn't say that—"
"Come over tomorrow around four. We'll cook something yummy for dinner and then just hang out!" She says happily, knowing he'll budge.
He stays silent for a few seconds before mumbling, "Okay…I'll tell Matt and Xav."
"Thanks, Si! Love you," she says, making a kissing noise into the phone.
"I don't know why I always give into you…" He tells her and she can tell that he's shaking his head on the other side.
"My powers of persuasion can be very strong," she says with a smirk.
"Alright, bye, Olivia."
"Bye, Simon." As soon as she hangs up, she hears the front door open and turns her head to see Fitz coming in.
"Hey, babe," she calls, getting off the couch and going over to him.
He smiles that smooth, sexy smile of his and hooks his arm around her waist, pulling her in and kissing her slowly. "Hey, Livvie."
"How was your day?"
"It was alright. I'm definitely looking forward to the weekend, though. How was yours?"
She shrugs. "Okay, I guess. Things got a little more interesting just a few minutes ago when my brother called and since I thought it was you, I said some dirty things…" she says with a guilty smile.
"Dirty things? Like what?" He asks with wide eyes.
She shakes her head. "It was so embarrassing! Imagine telling your twin brother that you're super horny."
"Alright, that's pretty bad, but are you super horny still?" He asks with an edge to his voice.
"I'm always game," she tells him, with a mischievous grin, "but I wanted to ask you something first."
"So did I, but you go ahead."
"Okay, so, I invited my brothers over and I was also going to ask Abby if she wanted to come tomorrow for dinner and just to hang out. I know it might be a little uncomfortable with everything going on with my dad, but I haven't seen my brothers in forever and I really want them to meet you. Are you okay with it?"
He nods slowly. "I suppose we could do that…I hate that you can't even go see you brothers whenever you want because of me, though," he says ashamedly.
She takes both his hands and holds them tightly. "Babe, it's not because of you. It's just my dad being a hardass. This isn't your fault."
He cracks a small smile and kisses her forehead, then rests his chin serenely on top of her head. But she senses that he's still not so sure of himself.
He pulls back and says, "I want to take you out for dinner tonight. To that nice restaurant downtown, Shelly's."
"Really? That place is kind of expensive and we're a little tight on money right now."
"It's okay, I've been saving up for this. We haven't gone out to eat in a while and I just wanted to do something special."
"Out of the blue?" She asks curiously.
He nods. "Out of the blue."
"Okay…let me see if I can find a nice dress or something classy to wear," she says, spinning out of his embrace and heading to the bedroom.
An hour later they head out to the restaurant and Fitz tells Olivia to order whatever she wants, but regardless she tries to keep the price of her meal modest, wondering why he was doing all this. However she decides to just go along with it and enjoy the evening.
By time they get home, their hands are all over each other and they can barely make it into the house. As soon as Fitz gets the door open, they both shed off their clothes and Fitz carries Olivia to their bedroom, depositing her on the bed and peppering her body with kisses. Olivia feels her mind going foggy as he works on her neck but then he suddenly pulls back and just looks at her, panting.
"What is it?" She asks.
He blushes and glances away from her, making her heart swell at his cute, nervous behavior. He gazes dreamily into her eyes and whispers, "Marry me."
"What?" She breathes as if she misheard him but she knows she didn't.
He falls onto his back next to her. He holds her hand tightly as he says, "I know we've really only been together for a year, even though we've known each other for two, but I feel like I've known you for my whole life. You're the best thing that's ever happened to me and maybe I'm moving too fast with this so you have every right to say no, but Livvie, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"
Her mouth slowly falls open as his words replay in her head. "Fitz…"
Before meeting Fitz, she had never thought that marriage was in the cards for her, but now the idea was beginning to be on her mind more often. She had always imagined eventually saying 'I do' to him someday but she's more shocked by the fact that he wants to take this step with her now than reluctant to marry him. And the fact that her father was totally against them was a problem.
"But my dad…"
"I know. I know he hates me and this but I honestly don't care. I don't want to tear you away from your family, but I love you and I'm serious about this. I'm serious about us."
He reaches over her and grabs his jeans off of the floor. He digs in his front pocket and takes out a black ring box then pops it open. She looks at the silver ring in the moonlight and gasps at how real it is, realizing that this is the reason why he had wanted to take her out for a special dinner that night and probably why they had been tight on money for the past few weeks.
"I'm serious about us. I've been thinking about it for a while now but I just bought the ring a couple weeks ago. It took me some time to work up the courage to propose and I also wanted to just do it right—I was actually going to do it tonight while we were out but I guess I was just really nervous. But I want this with you now. I've never been more sure about anything in my life. Marry me, Livvie."
She thinks about it for several more seconds but it's mostly her mind going blank with shock about what she knew was the biggest decision of her life so far. But it doesn't take long before she vigorously nods her head and smiles at him. "Okay," she says softly, still registering the enormity of what she's just agreed to.
Fitz's face beams. "Okay?"
Her smile grows wider as she repeats, "Okay! Yes, I will marry you!"
He laughs joyfully and nervously and she joins him. She didn't know how she was going to explain this to her father or if she even would tell him until she and Fitz were married, but for now she was going to just live in the moment. Just the thought of being Fitz's wife and him being officially hers was enough to make her say yes.
He slides the ring onto her fourth finger and kisses each of her knuckles before grabbing her up and rolling her over to the other side of him, making her giggle as he hovers over her again. She slings her arms around his neck and combs her fingers through his hair as she looks heartily into his eyes. "I love you so much."
"I love you more," he whispers against her breasts. "Now let me show you just how much…"
Present Day—2026
"Mommy, Fitz and Bobby are here!" Olivia hears Danny yell from downstairs, interrupting her reading. She had come up to her room for something else, but with the book just sitting on her dresser, she couldn't help but open it up and before she knew it, she was all wrapped up in the storyline again.
"Coming," she hollers back, putting away the book and heading out of the room to face the latest party guests. She hears the melodious sound of her son's laughter and when she starts down the stairs, she sees Danny on Fitz's shoulders and the both of them with their arms outstretched as Fitz spins around in circles and they make airplane noises.
She can't help but laugh and smile widely at her two favorite guys in the world having the time of their lives together and imagines how amazing it would be to see something like this everyday.
Fitz is the first to see her and smiles up at her, subtly scanning her body. She had decided to go with a nice, baby blue sundress, mostly just to look good for herself and partially for him, and by the look on his face, she figured that he loved it.
"Look, mom, Fitz and I are flying!" Danny exclaims with a wild grin.
"I can see that," she says amidst her laughter.
"Okay, little man, I'll let you enjoy the rest of your party," Fitz says, hoisting Danny off of his shoulders and setting him carefully on the ground.
"Okay…" Danny says with a slightly disappointed tone which turns hopeful as he asks, "But can we play the airplane game again later?"
Fitz nods. "Whenever you want."
"Cool! Let's go, Bobby!" Danny urges Fitz's nephew who's shyly standing behind Fitz, looking at Olivia.
"Come on, Bob, don't be shy," Fitz prods. Bobby hesitantly comes around from behind Fitz and walks up to Olivia. "This is for you," he tells her softly, holding out a little daisy to her.
"Aww…you're too sweet, Bobby. Thank you so much," she says, taking the flower and ruffling the little boy's hair. "I love daisies."
He smiles widely and then blushes again before urging Danny to take off with him. As the boys run off, Fitz takes Olivia into his embrace and she gladly reciprocates, inhaling the scent of his cologne. He holds onto her hand as they pull back.
"You look nice," she compliments, looking over his body. He was wearing a gray v-neck that matched perfectly with his stormy blue eyes and accented his muscular biceps, and some dark jeans with loafers. His hair was a little curlier than usual but she loved it so much that she just wanted to continuously run her fingers through his curls.
"Not as lovely as you, though. Even Bobby can see that. I can't believe I'm getting beat out by my four year old nephew," he says, shaking his head and chuckling.
She laughs. "I know, you should really step your game up."
"Oh, I plan to. As soon as the beautiful lady in front of me agrees to go out on a date with me," he says suggestively.
She smiles, blushing at his proposition and opens her mouth to reply to him when she's interrupted by Kenny's voice coming from the hallway. "Liv! Do you know where the pack of napkins went?"
He appears in the room and freezes at the sight of Fitz, who also stares him down.
"They're in the kitchen, in the pantry..." She says softly and then clears her throat, turning to fully face him. "Kenny, you remember Fitz," she says, like he had managed to mysteriously forget the very person they had discussed Olivia not wanting to see two weeks ago.
He nods stoically, his mouth trying at a friendly smile but barely curling up an inch. "Yeah…good to see you again, man," Kenny says, walking up to Fitz and firmly shaking his hand.
"You, too," Fitz says with the same uncomfortable expression as Kenny's on his face. He pulls his hand back awkwardly as Olivia says, "Here, I'll go get the napkins. Fitz, I can show you around, if you'd like."
"I'd love to." He follows Olivia through the hallway to the kitchen with Kenny trailing behind.
It never ceased to amaze Fitz that every time he saw the love of his life, she grew more and more stunning. She had on a baby blue sundress with her hair in soft curls and as she came down the stairs, she was nothing short of angelic. He had been wanting to ask her out on a proper date for over a week now and he been tempted to do soon many times during their conversations on the phone, but every time he was about to, he feared that he was moving too fast and that she would turn him down.
But as soon as he saw her coming down those stairs, he knew that he couldn't wait any longer. He wanted her and he wanted her now, but the moment had been ruined by Kenny asking for some stupid napkins.
"I had no idea you were coming," Kenny says in an accusatory tone, slightly looking ahead at Olivia.
"Yeah, well, Danny and my nephew Bobby have become good friends and I promised the both of them that we wouldn't miss the party for anything in the world," he explains simply as they enter the kitchen, which is wide and open with marble counters, a luxury wooden dinner table, and a perfect view of the kids in the backyard, playing in a jumper and on a water slide.
"And that's the only reason you were invited?" Kenny asks, crossing his arms over his chest.
Olivia gives him a look, telling him to shut up when Olivia's father walks into the room. "Hello, Fitzgerald," Eli greets in a polite tone, avoiding eye contact.
"Hello, Mr. Pope," Fitz says in a wary tone and then clears his throat. "Um, how are you?"
"I'm doing well. And you?"
"Same."
Eli nods coolly, leaving a long moment of awkward silence before he says, "Well, I came in here to get more cups for the kids." He grabs a large stack of cups and starts back towards outside. "They seem to have a pretty hard time keeping track of their drinks for some reason," he says, shaking his head. With one more, look at everyone he leaves as another familiar face walks in. The redhead stops in the doorway as soon as she sees Fitz.
"Hey, Abby," he greets with a soft smile.
She scans his body up and down, checking him out like Olivia had earlier and nods her head in approval. "Hi, Fitz, long time no see. Has your hair gotten darker or something?" She asks, seeming genuinely curious as she strolls into the kitchen. "It was a practically golden brown when I last saw you."
He chuckles. "Probably…it does that."
"Well, it's nice. I know Olivia loves it. She hasn't been able to stop staring at you since I walked in the room," she says with a wink at Olivia, who gives her a wry look and smiles coyly at Fitz, admitting, "It is nice…"
He flashes her a teeth-filled smile in return and notices Kenny who has irritation written all over his face. "Well, thanks for the napkins, Liv. I'm going to take these outside," he says, taking the large pack and heading outside, but not before he pauses by Fitz and tells him coldly, "Nice seeing you again."
Even moments after he leaves, the air in the room is still full of tension before Abby decides to break it. "So, Liv tells me you're into journalism now. How's that going?"
Fitz proceeds to tell her and the three get a good conversation going for awhile until Abby has to leave to take a phone call, leaving him and Olivia once again alone. She asks him if he still wants her to show him around the house and he says okay, happy to just have her to himself for a little bit.
They start inside as he allows her to lead him all over her gorgeous, suburban home. He loved it because it displayed everything that he loved about her and even with her wealth, he wasn't surprised that she didn't decide on a mansion inside. She had always favored a modest, cozy living environment. They make their way to the backyard, walking away from the kids and the noise to the side of the house, which has a pool and spa, blocked off pretty well to keep the kids safe. Fitz has the impulse to hold Olivia's hand as they start walking but doesn't know if it'd be too much too soon, especially with her father and brothers occasionally looking suspiciously over at him. But he quickly changes his mind when he looks to his right and sees Kenny from a distance, glaring in their direction, specifically at him. Even after ten years had gone by, Fitz still couldn't stand the dude, no matter how much Olivia seemed to like him. He finally decides to go with his gut and reaches for Olivia's hand, at first enclosing it with his, making her flinch but she soon relaxes and allows him to intertwine their fingers.
"So, are you looking forward to your big Superman debut later? I know I am," She says, smirking.
"I hope so. This is my first time cosplaying for anything, especially a birthday party."
"I think you'll do great. Danny and the rest of the kids will eat it up."
"You think so? Well, if I do a nice job, will you go out with me?" He says, giving another go at asking her out since he had been basically cockblocked by Kenny earlier.
She smiles. "If, and only if you're a good Superman, I will go out with you."
He raises his eyebrows and nods. "If you say so, Ms. Lane, I will be the best Superman you've ever seen," he says with a wink.
"I'll be the judge of that, Mr. Kent."
For Fitz the day goes by faster than he thought it would and before he knows it, it's show time. When he walks out in his costume at first, the adults laugh at him and even Olivia's father cracks a slight smile, both of which make him even more nervous than before, but once he makes eye contact with Olivia and sees her reassuring smile, he knows that he'll be fine. There wasn't really much to stress over anyway, all he was going to do was make a little, entertaining appearance for the kids then he would be free to go. Besides, he was doing this for Danny.
But he doesn't even take a few more steps out to the backyard before he sees his son's eyes light up and he screams, "Look, it's Superman!"
As soon as all the kids turn their heads, within seconds they're all rushing at Fitz and he's nearly knocked down by Danny who runs right into him and looks up at him with a confused gaze. "Fitz? You're Superman?"
"Uh, yeah, it's my day job," he says as convincingly as he can.
"Oh, okay," Danny says. "That's really cool. Thank you for appearing for my party. You're the best!"
Fitz smiles. "You got it!"
"Well, come on! We have stuff to do!" Danny exclaims enthusiastically, grabbing Fitz's hand, making him stumble along after the kids.
By the end of the party, Fitz is more exhausted than he's ever been in his life. The kids had taken him on a rollercoaster with all the crazy games and things they made him do, which included playing basketball, going inside the jumper, and helping them with hitting the piñata, which had involved him getting hit repeatedly and nearly trampled to death as soon as all the candy burst out. Even though he was pretty fit, he knew that his bruises and aches would last for the next few weeks, but in the end it was all worth it to see the satisfied looks on both of Danny and Olivia's face. Danny was now playing with some of his gifts in the living room with Bobby while Olivia was engaged in a conversation with Abby in the kitchen, but she occasionally would flash him a smile.
He was about to go to the kitchen to get a glass of water when he hears from behind him, "You had a hell of a day today."
He turns around to see Eli who is wearing that same polite smile on his face as early that morning.
Fitz nods. "It was but I enjoyed it for the most part. Though, I don't think I'll be able to move tomorrow. Those kids pummeled me like an NFL team."
Eli chuckles, making Fitz even more anxious and causing him to question why Eli was all of a sudden being so friendly. "I've never seen my grandson this happy, though…or my daughter. I think this will be a day they'll never forget," he says with a relaxed smile on his face, like someone who had witnessed too much suffering from those he loved and was now glad to just see a break from it all.
"You know I never liked you or approved of your relationship with my daughter to begin with," he begins simply, looking past Fitz nostalgically. "I thought it was inappropriate because you had been her teacher and the age difference at the time, but most of all, it felt like you were stealing her away from me, my only daughter. Our relationship after her mom and I divorced was nothing short of awful and I understood. She had Becca, but it was never the same. Sometimes a girl just needs her real mother. But all of a sudden in her last year of high school she just changed—she became more focused, she was happier. And I thought that this change in her attitude was because of me and my 'great' parenting skills," he says chuckling and shaking his head, "but it was really because of you. You changed her for the better and look how she is now. You made her happy and it looks like you still are. I haven't seen her this happy in forever. You're the love of her life and I can see how much you love her, too. Deep down I just knew that you guys would find your way back to each other, love that powerful is rare and you should hold on to it. So, I want to give you another chance—a fresh start with my daughter, and your son—yes, I know that Danny is yours, the resemblance is far too strong—I want to give you another chance, but this has to be the last one, because I don't think I'd be able to bear seeing my daughter so broken again. Some of it she brought on herself and some of it was because of the death of someone she loved. She didn't take care of herself and tried to find love in the wrong places, but she was mostly shattered by the break up between you two. And as her father, I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't protect her—but I'm also not going to keep her from happiness because that we be just as harmful. God knows she wouldn't even listen to me anyway, she's always been as stubborn as a mule," he says with a short laugh which Fitz smiles at. "But I still get a say. So, I'm going to take a chance on you Fitzgerald and I really hope that I don't regret it."
"I promise you won't, sir. I'm determined not to let us fail this time. I won't let her go again—I can't, because it will ruin me just the same. And now that Danny is in my life…I don't know how I could ever walk away. They're everything I've ever wanted," Fitz says, looking over at Olivia and Danny in the kitchen. "I feel like the luckiest man in the world."
Olivia makes eye contact with him and smiles with a curious look in her eyes, probably wondering what he and her father were discussing. Fitz suddenly gets a surge of confidence and leans in closer to Eli as he asks him for his input on something Fitz had wanted to do for weeks now.
Eli nods and says, "I think it's time, too."
Fitz smiles subtly and then heads towards Olivia. "What was that all about?" She asks.
"Well…your father has decided to give me another chance with you, and now with Danny. I think the Superman stunt really helped," he says with a wink.
"So, he's okay with everything…with us?"
Fitz nods with a widening smile. "For the most part, yes." He pauses as he takes her hand and guides her into a different room away from the rest of her family.
He grows serious as he takes in a quick breath and then exhales. "You said that whenever I was ready to tell Danny about who I really am, you would be ready, too."
"You want to tell him tonight?" She asks slowly, her face suddenly falling.
He nods slowly. "I know you're scared about how he'll take it and I'm scared, too, but I honestly think it's time. He'll be shocked but I think he'll take it well. We'll explain it as well as we can. Everything will be okay."
She glances away with a contemplative look before gazing back into his eyes determinedly. "Okay, everything will be okay," she agrees, and smiles lightly up at him and taking his hand in hers. "We can do this."
He returns the gesture and kisses her forehead, before leading her back out into the living room where Danny and Bobby are intensely playing with one of his presents.
"Danny, can your mom and I talk to you for a bit?" Fitz asks, trying to shake the nerves out of his voice.
"Let's do this in his room, to make him feel as comfortable as possible," Olivia whispers to Fitz and he agrees.
They all go up to his room and close the door behind them. Danny settles himself on his bed and looks back at his parents expectantly, "What's up?" He asks.
Olivia steps forward and sits down next to him, wrapping her arm around his shoulder. "Sweetie, the reason Fitz and I wanted to talk to you in private like this is because we have something extremely important to tell you. We know that you might react a number of different ways to this news and you have every right to, but just let us explain everything, okay?"
He shrugs. "Okay."
Olivia takes a deep breath as she continues, "I know it's been somewhat difficult only having me around as a parent, even though you've had grandpa, grandma, and your uncles, but the reason your dad was never around is because we split up before you were born, it had nothing to do with you, we just decided to part ways. Do you remember me telling you this before?"
He nods solemnly. "Yeah…I always wanted to find him so that I could convince him to come back and stay."
Fitz feels his heart ache at hearing this as Olivia continues.
"I know, honey," she says, combing her fingers through his honey brown curls. "But now you don't have to look for him anymore or convince him to stay because…he's right here and he's more than willing to be a huge part of your life if you let him. Danny, Fitz is your father," she says, deciding to just come out with it.
He looks over at Fitz, who is unsure of whether or not to go over to his son or not so he just stays frozen in place as Danny gasps with his eyes wide open. "Really?" He exclaims.
Fitz nods with an uneasy smile. "Really. You're my son, Danny."
Both Olivia and Fitz watch as a mixture of emotions take over their son's face until his expression turns unreadable and he asks, "But where have you been all this time then?"
Fitz comes forward and kneels before Danny, looking earnestly into his eyes and taking his hands in his. "Your mom and I weren't always on good terms. We had a fight a long time ago and we didn't talk to each other for a while, but when I found out about you, I came to you as fast as possible. I know that I can't make up for the time that I've already missed, but if you let me, I would love to be the Dad you never had and be here for you whenever you need me."
"So, you're going to stay then?" Danny asks with a hopeful gleam in his eyes.
Fitz smiles as tears fill his eyes. "Yes, I'm never going to leave you, I'll always be here."
Danny's mouth open into a wide grin. "Wow…this is the greatest day of my life."
Olivia wipes a joyful tear from her eye as he asks Fitz, "So I can call you 'daddy' now and you'll call me your son?"
"Yes, son," Fitz says, taking Danny into his embrace as his tears flow freely. "I love you so much."
He opens his arms up for Olivia and for a full minute the newly united family stays in each other's embrace until Danny says, "I love you guys a lot, too, but you're kinda suffocating me."
Olivia and Fitz slowly pull back, chuckling as Fitz sits down on the bed and pulls Danny onto his lap. "Sorry about that, buddy."
"It's okay," he says, giggling but then a serious look overtakes his face as he says, "I have one more question."
Fitz and Olivia exchange looks, wondering if they had missed something. "What is it, honey?"
"Well, I've actually wondered about this for some time now, but I always forget to ask. I know now that you guys are my parents, but how did I get here, then?"
Olivia smiles at Fitz who decides to let her answer. "I carried you in my tummy for nine months," she says simply.
"But how did I get there?"
Fitz decides to jump in. "Well…it's part of a special process between every mom and dad around the world. You see, when a man and woman love each other very much, they…" Olivia gives him a warning expression but Fitz assures her with his eyes that he's got it under control.
"…they start to develop special abilities that allow them to create a baby in the mom's tummy. I like to call them superpowers," Fitz says, winking at Olivia and smiling mischievously at her.
She lets out a short laugh as she gets the double message.
"And how do these superpowers work? Are they like Superman's?" Danny asks eagerly.
"Now that's a secret. You'll have to wait until you fall in love to find that out."
"And you're not allowed to fall in love until you're at least twenty," Olivia adds half-heartedly.
Danny gasps. "I have to wait until I'm twenty to find out about the superpowers?! Wow…"
"It'll be worth the wait, though," Fitz tells him, lifting him up and setting him down.
"Okay…" Danny agrees reluctantly but perks up again as he says, "I'm going to go tell everyone that you're my daddy now!" And then he takes off.
By now, Eli had told the rest of the family what they had been doing so it would be no surprise from Danny's mouth.
"Well, that went well," Fitz says.
Olivia nods. "It did. And it feels like a huge burden has just been lifted off me. Thank you."
"I couldn't have done it without you. You're my right-hand woman and you always will be," he says, pulling her closer by her hands.
He leans his forehead against hers and brushes his lips delicately against her skin. He slowly faces down, looking straight into her eyes and when she doesn't move back, he gently presses his lips to hers. She kisses him back, placing her hands around his neck as he pulls her closer by her waist. The kiss is slow and gentle but filled with a passion that had been trapped for too long and was ready to be let free.
When he pulls back, he slides her bottom lip between his teeth, making her moan and making him want her more than ever before. But like they had agreed earlier, they were taking it slow, and defiling their son's room with their throes of passion would be far from taking it slow.
"So, was I a good Superman?" He asks as they stand with their faces inches away from each other.
She smiles and says softly. "The best…and yes."
"'Yes'?"
"I will go out with you. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the Clipper game with you and Danny but, I'll go out with you on a proper date for sure. I promise."
He grins and pecks her lips once more. "Ah…the superpowers are very strong indeed."
She laughs and takes his hand, leading him out of the room and downstairs as he smiles tranquilly, grateful to God that his family was finally coming together.
So, there we go. I know that I've been stringing y'all along for a while now concerning whose death broke Liv and Fitz apart, but I can say that we'll get to that in at least the next few chapters, and afterwards it will be smooth sailing from there and on. But concerning this chapter, what did you think of the b-day party? Eli? Fitz proposing to Liv in the past? Fitz playing Superman ;)? (I thought of doing the whole Fitz/Superman idea before a few of you suggested it but your suggestions just pushed me to put it in there for sure!) Danny and the big reveal? And how do you think Liv and Fitz's date will go? Other thoughts? Thanks for reading!
