The composer begins the ballet with a dramatic and romantically enchanting melody as the audience adjusts themselves to be comfortable in their seats and the curtains rise. From the wings and backstage they could all hear the "Ohhs," and "Ahhs" coming from the audience, Ahiru could feel her heart beating faster and faster as she knew her time up on stage would arise soon. Both Pike and Lillie encouraged her, as did the other advanced girls, but she was most worried about her clumsiness arising, even after all those aggravating hours upon hours of practicing until she had to pry her pointe shoes off her feet, cleaning and caring for her poor swollen feet. She'd practiced until her muscles ached and screamed, even after Fakir had told her to rest, she pushed on, and from the sound of it, Act One was already coming to an end, her heart skipped a beat.
"Ahiru, it'sh time for your grand entrance!"
Mr. Cat had knocked on the door but she didn't hear it. Ahiru swallowed hard as she looked in the mirror one last time, observing her face, her large blue eyes reflected a certain nervousness and terror, her eyelashes dark and curled, along with thick fake eyelashes resting above them. Her face was powdered white accented with a white sparkly powder, her swan feathers made into a kind of crown that went all the way around her head resting on her ears and she wore a small gold tiara at the center of her head, some of her bangs hung just over her eyes, and that iconic long strand of hair stuck out from the top of her head making a kind of arch over her head, it used to make her seem more duck-like, but now it made her unique. She pushed her chair away as she turned, her white tutu spinning slightly as she stretched out her white pointe shoes, having her black tutu and black tights, and black pointe shoes ready for her, Pike promised to help her dress before her Odile scenes, they'd practiced it and did rather well, having her fully ready in one minute on the dot.
"Right, Mr. Cat, I'm ready."
Her face was rather serious, but she knew she had to do her best, thus she took a deep breath and followed him to the side of the stage, hoping no one else heard how fast her little heart was beating.
Just as quickly as Ahiru had run out onto the stage emerging from the lake, she was off the stage again. She was breathing hard as Fakir, and the entire rest of the dancers applauded her, as did the audience. Mr. Cat was teary eyed as he called for intermission. The dancers were all able to rest awhile, though Ahiru felt she had to use the majority of the time getting ready for her next role as Odile.
Intermission came and went as Ahiru dressed in her dark Odile tutu, black pointe shoes, black tights, black crown of swan feathers and a black crown atop her head, her makeup was far darker with a hint of purple eye shadow and dark maroon lips. She was an enchanting temptress gliding across the floor as Fakir's eyes reflected a certain lust for this dark princess. She felt powerful as each movement was full of grace along with mysticism and topped with a flirtatious twist. Suddenly Ahiru is rushed off the stage after the Prince (Fakir) realizes she isn't Odette, but Odile, and thus she must change quickly and appear as a vision of Odette now heartbroken at his deception, to which the Prince rushes back to the lake.
Ahiru is back in her Odette attire and is now on stage performing the last scenes before the ballet is over. She stands and walks over to the lake, walking up a small set of stairs and looks out to the audience distraught as their faces reflect a somber, empathetic expression as she jumps backward, landing on a soft set of pillows. She quickly gets up and is able to get off stage without being noticed as the Prince follows suit and dies as well, leaping after his beloved, as Fakir also slips off stage, they are to be hooked up to wires to show their descent towards heaven, defeating the evil Rothbart with their true love as the swan maidens are permanently transformed to human girls forever, watching Odette and the Prince ascend to heaven. Thus the composer ends the scene as the curtains fall closed. Fakir and Ahiru are then rushed down for curtain call. Next they are to prepare to line up, Ahiru decides to carry her black pointe shoes out with her as she and Fakir sit and wait for the final bows of the two leading characters.
"You were amazing tonight."
Fakir was holding her hand, kissing it gently.
"Thank you Fakir, so were you!"
Ahiru leaned against him, clearly exhausted. They both closed their eyes for a moment until Mr. Cat called the two of them over; clearly it was time for them to take their bows. As they walked out, the stage lights were reflecting in their faces brightly, but they smiled nonetheless, walking out hand in hand as they took their bows, the audience cheering and clapping as they threw roses at them. Fakir bent down and picked up a bouquet as he handed it to Ahiru, kissing her sweetly as the audience cheered louder, whistling as Ahiru blushed, bowing with Fakir again as they took their individual bows before Fakir lifted Ahiru up, spinning her around as she laughed loudly, feeling as though she'd just conquered the world. It was truly the greatest night of their lives, and they couldn't wait to do it all over again the next two nights, and one matinee tomorrow afternoon. But nothing would beat opening night, when everyone received a 100% from a very contented Mr. Cat.
The End
