Luck of the Unwanted~

Chapter 19

Lucy POV

Christmas is getting closer, and the closer the holiday gets, the more anticipation Natsu shows….

"Lucy! Lucy! Guess what?" Natsu asked animatedly as we made our way to school, Levy and Wendy giggling in the background. I just looked in his direction and he took that as a sign to continue.

"Christmas is coming up, and do you know what that means?" He asked all but screaming in my ear. It was like he got closer and closer to my ear more and more as the pointless questions came fumbling my way. In return I just continued to eye him, awaiting a response.

"PRESENTS!" And with that I was done. He turned around to talk to Wendy and continued to walk backwards for a bit.

I leveled my arm to where his head might be when he decided to turn around and did what I could. I waited.

As Natsu finally turned around, it seems like my calculations were off a bit because when he did, my arm hit him right in the throat and with his force, he was spent sprawling down onto the cold, wet ground.

BAM! I just clotheslined him. Hmph. Serves him right for

Wendy and Levy were behind us laughing at Natsu as he was acting dramatic holding his throat and heaving. Then again, maybe he wasn't. I did hit him pretty hard. It was still fun to get him back.

He continued to sit there heaving and hacking before finally looking up at me with a menacing glare. A smirked at him proud at my accomplishment which made him scowl.

The rest of the walk was quiet with the exception of the little conversation Wendy and Levy were having between the two. I guess it was a good thing too because it wasn't long before we entered the school grounds and Erza, Mira, Gray, Jellal, Gajeel, Juvia, Freed, and Loke came running towards us. The only one missing was… Lisanna.

I was shaken out of my thoughts when Mira all but tackled me to the ground in a bear hug.

"Lucy! Oh my gosh! I am so glad you are okay. You had me so worried! You shouldn't have pushed yourself so hard for a stupid race no matter if you felt it was important or not. Health always comes first, do you hear me missy?" Mira said pointing an accusing finger at me making my smile. She kept holding onto me, and didn't seem to be planning on letting go anytime soon, so I couldn't exactly get my board up to write anything. Instead, I somehow released my right hand and put it up to my head in a salute, which resulted in many laughs.

After the short apology and scolding, we made our way to first period: math. I sighed. Whose idea was it to make math a first period class? Everyone knows your brain doesn't start to fully 'wakeup' until 10 o'clock, how do they expect me to do quadratic formulas and such this early? It's a wonder everyone isn't failing…

I made my way into my seat between Levy and Loke who, of course, started to flirt with me. I took it like a women though and slapped him in the back of the head. In the end, he ended up moping because I refused to go on a date with him.

After math was over and homeroom began, people began to come to my desk and ask if I was okay, and Levy helped me answer some of their questions as Natsu sat in the back with his feet propped up on the desk and his hands behind his head. Some girls watched him from a distance with stars in their eyes, but he paid them no attention. When he saw me looking at him, he glanced at me and winked before settling his eyes back up at the ceiling. Soon, the bell rang and I made my way to second period, and so forth.

Finally it was lunch. I got my plate and went and sat at our usual table between Mira and Natsu, who refused to leave me. Levy, Gajeel, and Erza sat in front of us, and Jellal sat beside Erza at the other table. The only thing missing was… Lisanna.

"Lucy? Are you listening to me?" Natsu asked waving a hand in front my face and my mind returned to Earth.

"Did you hear that Lu-chan?" Levy asked concerned. I shook my head no and Natsu sighed.

"We were all thinking of doing something for Christmas. Buy some presents for each other and go to karaoke or something. Does that sound fun to you?" Natsu asked. My eyes brightened up at the idea and Mira chuckled at my childish look. What can I say? I have never celebrated Christmas before. There were entirely too many children at the orphanage to give each a present without going bankrupt.

I nodded my head swiftly. Erza smiled and Levy laughed. Natsu just stared at me for a little bit before patting me on my head. I looked up at him and he smiled, which I returned.

He pulled his hand back down and I returned to eating my fries. When I looked back at Mira and Erza, Mira had all but fainted and Erza was fanning her with her hand.

"Mira?" Levy asked.

"T-the…"

"Mira! Speak to us!" Erza shouted.

"T-the…."
"Mira! Everything is going to be okay! Hang in there!" Natsu bellowed, looking around as if he would receive answers from the air.

"T-The… Flowers of MOE! You guys are so cute! I can't help but feel all giddy when I see you two together, especially when you act like that! It- it- AHHHHH!" She squealed as she started to fangirl all over the place, and cause everyone to sweatdrop at her reaction.

"Mira… I really worry about you sometimes." Levy stated as she sunk farther down in her seat.

Natsu was silent for a bit and when I turned to look, I saw something I have never seen in my life: Natsu blushing. Natsu. Blushing. Oh this is priceless. I don't know why he is getting so worked up about it though. Mira was just being Mira.

'Natsu… are you ok?' I wrote. When he didn't look at me I tapped his shoulder. He jumped at the sudden contact but relaxed and looked at me. He took a second to read what I wrote and eventually replied.

"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" He said casually. I looked at him skeptically, but nothing changed in his eyes so I guess he was telling the truth. Then again, Natsu is one of the hardest people for me to read. I never know what to expect.

After that, the bell rang and I went off to creative writing where Levy and I sat and basically stared blankly at Laki-sensei while she lectured how to properly write a summary.

A few periods later, gym came. And I suddenly started to feel self-conscious. I felt pretty awkward the whole time I was changing out and even when we went into the gym and started to partner up for stretches. Mira immediately came up to me and started to hold my feet while I did my set for sit-ups and vise versa.

She smiled encouragingly at me and gave me a hand to pull me off of the ground. I grabbed it and stood as Coach Laxus grabbed a crate full of balls and basically threw them at us muttering something about free-time.

"Woo-hoo! You're on ice cube! One-on-one it is!" Natsu shouted across the gym, sprinting like a madman to ensure he gets a basketball and a goal.

"You think you can beat me? Oh you are in for a rude awakening fire-brain." Gray replied as he took off at a high speed in the same direction.

Mira and I sweat-dropped at the sight of the two while the rest of the class just stared confused at what just happened.

Not knowing what to do, Mira, Erza, and I walked over to get one of the remaining balls that, just so happened to be, a volleyball. Great. Now my face can be a magnet to that of not only a dodgeball, but a volleyball as well.

We started to bump it back and forth a few times and soon, a few other girls started to join before many more started to flock in. It started as a simple game of hitting it back and forth trying to keep it off the ground but quickly escalated. Before long, everyone was just hitting it to, basically, keep it away from them. Then it wasn't long before a ball came spiraling towards my face, not giving me enough time to even process what was happening.

BAM! And just like that, I got karma for close lining Natsu earlier.

My face stung and it was almost like I was possessed, for I grabbed a ball and picked it up like a pitcher in baseball would chucking it to the girl in front of me who squeaked and dove out of the way.

"L-Lucy?" Mira asked.

"Are you okay? You aren't acting like yourself. Do you need to go see the nurse?" Erza asked. And just like that my hypnotism was up. What came over me? I rubbed the back of my head in embarrassment as my face started to progressively get warmer.

"Haha…." All the girls nervously laughed once they noticed I was back to myself.

And then the end of the day came and Natsu, Levy, and I met up with Wendy and we started on our trek home. It was a bit quiet as Natsu kept his distance from me and kept his throat covered at all times as our walk dragged on.

We soon got home and was welcomed by the usual silence. Well that was until threw his bag on the floor and rolled over the back of the couch, grabbing the remote in the process, and turning the tv on.

Wendy went into the kitchen to get a snack and I stood there. Not exactly knowing what to do. Normally, I am with Wendy or Natsu, but the time I was… Left? I looked back at Natsu to find him watching some anime that he seemed to be thoroughly enjoying basing on his laughs. I was about to just head upstairs to my room when I heard my name called.

"Lucy? Are you going upstairs already? You should come watch this with me. It's really funny. I think you would like it." Natsu stated. I walked back into the living room and sat down on the couch, cautious of Natsu.

"Huh? Oh come on Lucy. You don't have to sit so far away." Natsu said grabbing my arm and pulling me closer.

I was now dangerously alert of the small space between the two of us.

Doki! Doki!
