3rd Person POV

Birdo stared out the window of the ship, her eyes filled with tears. Shelly hadn't said a single word to them since the incident. NOT even to say goodbye to her friends as she, Birdo and Yoshi boarded the ship. Birdo continued to stare out the window, Shelly stood on the deck staring at out at the sea. Her eyes full of tears, she sniffed as she looked down at the water. Distraction plagued her mind as she didn't even notice that the ship had come to a stop. She just sat there, leaving Birdo and Yoshi to come and get her. The walk home was also a quiet one, as sunset was drawing nearer. Upon arriving at the house, Birdo was shocked to see that Shelly had stopped fallowing them and was now sitting at the bottom of the hill.

"Shelly honey….." Birdo started but Yoshi stopped her.

"Let's give her some time to herself Birdo….." he told her gently. Reluctantly Birdo gave one last longing glance at her Daughter before going into the house.

Two Hours Later…

Birdo let out a sigh as she placed dinner plates onto the table. Completely distracted, she left the kitchen to look out the window. She didn't like what she saw. Yoshi suddenly came into the room from the garage.

"Yoshi….." Birdo whimpered, as he came into the room. Yoshi turned and made his way over to Birdo. "It's been HOURS….." she whispered, staring out the window where Shelly still sat. Yoshi let out a sigh. He too looking out the window, he would have thought by now that Shelly would at least be recovering a bit…but she didn't seem show ANY sign that she was recovering…..

Shelly POV

I was frustrated I had been practicing for YEARS and I hadn't shown at least a little hope that I would be able to defeat my Shortcomings…

-In Yoshi language-

"Urgh… *frustrated scoff* maybe I'm some sort of Freak….." I growled and almost laughed unenthusiastically.

"You shouldn't say things like that about yourself…..Shelly" I quickly turned around and was embarrassed to see my Father, standing behind me both hands on his hips. I let out a sigh I knew perfectly well that neither of my Parents liked when I insulted myself for my Shortcomings. As expected he approached me, however at this point I had looked away. I wasn't too keen on talking about my feelings. "You've been up here for quite a while" I guess my Father had expected some kind of response from me because he stepped up to my side and turned his head to me. However I still didn't give him a response. He knew WHY I was frustrated but he had NO IDEA on how Humiliating it was to be the Child of two Well-known figures and Not amount to them. "It's nice out today isn't it?" he asked me. This time I gave a slight laugh somewhat admiring his persistence.

"I Guess….." I answered unenthusiastically. Father seemed a bit unhappy with my response, however he sat down in the grass and motioned for me to do the same. I hesitated for a second but finally lowered myself next to him.

"What's wrong?" he asked me.

"I was just thinking…..Nothings wrong…" I answered. Which of course was half a lie, Yes I was thinking but there WAS something wrong. Father gave me a curious stare.

"Don't lie Shelly…..It's what happened at the Tournament isn't it?" I felt my chest ache with frustration.

"….." I suddenly got up which was actually a little difficult since my left ankle wasn't as strong as it used to be. "I Just don't get it…..I've been Trying and TRYING for YEARS and I still can't do EITHER!" I gasped this time the frustration was very apparent. I almost expected Father to get up however he remained on the ground, he glanced at the ground beside him. However after about a minute he got up to join me.

"You shouldn't be stressing yourself over that Shelly, Mastery of Anything takes time" At this remark I felt a surge of anger but also relief.

"Time…..Time That's ALL that's gone by is time…..You had both my…my…" I couldn't bring myself to finish. "Mastered faster than I learned to walk….." I finally finished. "I should be able to do it….." I whispered tears starting to sting in my eyes.

"Let me ask you Shelly…..Why do you want to do them so badly?" Father asked me. At that question I turned to him, for second I hesitated but finally I looked him in the face.

"Because I want to Prove to everyone that I'm not….." I stopped myself, I didn't want to finish because I knew my Father wasn't going to like the answer.

"Prove them what?" he asked me rather quickly. I opened my mouth but suddenly avoided his eyes and took a few steps ahead.

"I'm not a failure" I finally whispered. Despite my attempts to keep it quiet my Father had obviously heard what I had said, I heard him give a huff. I suddenly felt his hand to my shoulder, as he turned me to face him.

"Shelly…you are NOT a failure, you have EVERYTHING you need to Successful. You have Dedication and Determination, we can all see that you put your heart in Everything you do EVERYDAY and that's ALL that matters in the end….." I felt my chest ache. "We aren't called Yoshis because of EVERYTHING that we can do, if a Toad couldn't say the phrase… Sorry but our Princess is in another Castle does that make him NOT a Toad?" he asked me. I was taken aback by his strange analogy.

"I…guess Not…" I finally answered. Father nodded.

"EXACTLY, why should you be Any different? You're strong in your own way, wither or not you can do something well or not at all" I eyed the ground for a second. Father seemed to read my mind. "And you should NEVER let ANYONE get you down because of your abilities" I suddenly felt the tears coming back. I suddenly felt Father's hand on my shoulder. "Shelly, Your Mother and I Both Love you Very much and we both agree that you need to Love yourself for Who you Are and NOT for who you Want or feel you NEED to be" I suddenly felt the tears run down my cheeks I turned away for a second, not wanting Father to see. However I knew that he had. Suddenly a familiar voice came from up the hill. "Oops I forgot your Mother wanted us back home, it's getting pretty late" I nodded.

"Alright" I answered fallowing Father up the hill, being careful not to let my ankle give out on me on the way up. As we made it home Mother waited outside for us, she looked relieved. As we approached the house I turned to my Father.

"Um…..Dad…" I asked feeling a little awkward. My Father suddenly stopped, it became obvious that he hadn't expected that reference.

"Yes?" he asked still staring at me, confused at what I had just called him. At first I didn't look him in the eyes but a second later I looked up at him.

"Thanks….." I finally answered. Father smiled. "Love you" I whispered. My Father smiled even more broader.

"I love you too, Shelly" he replied nodding at me.

D'Aw A touchy Father+Daughter Moment ^.^

Authors note: It's safe to assume that every time Shelly is speaking to (or near) her Parents and/or to herself she is speaking in Yoshi language (she can't risk speaking in English when she's by herself, she can't always know when her Parents are nearby =p )
