3rd person POV
Yoshi's eyes suddenly opened as he was woken from his uneasy sleep. He couldn't explain why but his heart was racing and he felt overwhelming feelings of fear and urgency. Glancing over Yoshi stared at Birdo who was sleeping next to him. Giving her an eased smile, he glanced out the window of their ship compartment. The sun was barely above the horizon and the ship was still speeding across the waves. A familiar Island was only a speck in the distance but was slowly getting closer. Giving a slight frown at the Island Yoshi turned back towards Birdo. He smiled warmly at her before slowly pulling himself off their bed. He quietly advanced the door and disappeared.
Half an hour went by before Birdo also woke up. She unlike Yoshi however didn't seem uneasy. Turning she was startled to see that Yoshi wasn't in the room. Slight worry plagued her as the events of last night unnerved her. However the rays from the sun entering the room eased her mind. Standing up Birdo walked to the door and stepped outside. Finding herself in the small hallway of the ship, Birdo followed the hallway, before coming to a halt. Up ahead through a window Birdo could see Yoshi standing outside on the deck. Giving a cordial smile Birdo slowly opened the door. Yoshi didn't seem to notice as he continued to stare ahead of him.
"Couldn't sleep Dear?"
Yoshi's body suddenly jerked as he turned to see Birdo standing behind him. The tension in his body immediately eased, he gave his wife a warm smile. Yoshi and Birdo stared at each other for a few seconds before Yoshi shook his head.
"I've been up for about half an hour…." His voice trailed off and a hint of uneasiness plagued his face. He continued to face Birdo however his eyes slightly glanced back towards the sea. The sadness grew even more apparent in his face. Birdo also glanced towards the sea, her eyes softened as understanding came to her. Without a word she put her face against his. The worry on Yoshi's face eased as both he and his wife turned towards the sea. Staring at the familiar Island that loomed over them.
"Well where do you suppose we start searching?" Mario was the first to ask as the group exited the ship. Eyes were mainly on Yoshi and Birdo as it was quite obvious as to which of the remaining 3 people the Star was for. Both Yoshi and Birdo turned to each other, they both shared the same look of worry.
"The Island itself is a rather large area to search…." Birdo whispered glancing first at the group before turning back to her husband.
"And not much to decide which area holds the most importance….." Yoshi mumbled although his voice seemed to hold a bit of foreboding.
"Why don't we start by heading to your house…" Peach's voice suddenly sounded. Both Yoshi and Birdo seemed a bit uneasy with the thought.
"I agree with Peach…" Mario's voice sounded. "If the Island is as large as I remember we're definitely going to need to prepare for a long day…." A moment of silence ensued before finally both Yoshi and Birdo gave reluctant nods. As much as they didn't want to go, Mario was right, searching the Island was going to take some time and they definitely weren't prepared to take on such a large search.
The walk was a little slower than usual but finally the group of 6 stopped at the front door. At first both Yoshi and Birdo just stared at the door hesitant. However finally Yoshi hesitantly grasped the doorknob and slowly turned it, allowing the group to enter. As expected Yoshi and Birdo were the last to enter the house, a familiar feeling of emptiness plagued them. For a while nothing was said, Yoshi and Birdo simply wandered around the house gathering things needed for the long search, although they avoided going upstairs. Birdo walked past the stairs once while heading towards the kitchen and flinched as she did so, while also slightly glancing up the stairs. Despite the uneasy atmosphere Mario and the others refrained from speaking to Yoshi or Birdo. Even though all 6 of them were facing the same heartache Yoshi and Birdo had been plagued with this terrible fate much longer than they had. Finally after half an hour Yoshi and Birdo met their friends at the entryway, seemingly having everything ready for the search. Silence ensued for several minutes. Eventually however Yoshi finally broke the silence.
"Well…..I think this should hold up for several days….." His voice trailed a bit, no hint of enthusiasm was in his voice. Birdo simply nodded, she held a bag filled with supplies over her shoulder. "We'll need our map to help us mark off the places we search…." Yoshi spoke up again as he reached behind his back to grab something. His face however became startled as his hand grasped thin air. Looking behind his back at the bag on his shoulder, he was startled to see that the small pouch on the bag was empty. Yoshi's face became nervous. "…I swear I had it in here the last time I went….out…." He whispered, searching the pouch again. Birdo's face suddenly tightened with distress, she turned towards Yoshi, grabbing his arm with both hands.
"….I left it…" She whispered terrified as her eyes glanced slightly towards the upstairs. Yoshi felt his heart stop for a moment as he winced knowing which room Birdo spoke of. Mario and the others stared at Yoshi and Birdo somewhat confused. Yoshi was the first to make a movement towards the stairs, although he was very slow in doing so. Eventually Birdo slowly followed, with Mario and the others after. The group of 6 walked down the dimly lit hallway before stopping at a door. Silence once again ensued as Yoshi and Birdo simply stared at the door. Glancing at his wife, Yoshi slowly reached for the doorknob his hand was slightly trembling. Turning the doorknob Yoshi slowly opened the door and the group was met with a heart wrenching sight. Despite not visiting Yoshi and Birdo's house very often, Mario and the others knew who this room belonged to. The map was in clear sight on the floor right next to the neatly made bed. A whimper broke the silence.
"….I….I….Can't go in there…." Birdo suddenly choked, immediately hiding her face and turning away. Yoshi at first continued to stare blank face into the room, before giving his attention over to his wife. He stared at her for a moment before turning back towards the room. His face looked scared, however after several seconds he finally took a step into the room. Almost immediately after setting foot into the room, the deep feeling of urgency he had felt this morning plagued him again. Clenching his fists Yoshi quickly came up to the bed and knelt over to pick the map up. The group even Birdo suddenly jumped as a strained gasp came from Yoshi as he suddenly dropped the map on the floor and backed away. Despite her current fear of the room, Birdo was the first to rush over to her husband. Mario and the others followed. Birdo put her hand onto Yoshi's arm, she could feel it tremble. Looking at her husband's face she was shocked at how petrified he looked. Birdo and the others looked down at the floor and were met with a shocking sight. Where the map had originally sat an image was imprinted into the floor. Yoshi's face tightened as he stared at the image, showing the one place he was praying since they arrived back on the Island they wouldn't have to go. Birdo also stared at the image, it showed an obvious forest area however it had a trail that led to a large pit filled with lava, it even showed a large angry Wiggler near the forest. Birdo took her husband's hand in attempt to comfort him. Yoshi squeezed her hand tightly in response.
"Blargg's Pit…."
*Phew* Looks like Yoshi and Birdo are heading back to the place where one of their worst memories took place….. What awaits them there? See ya in the next chapter! THANK YOU EVERYONE!
