Damn…

It was late at night, the moon illuminating the landscape with a calm, white light. Everyone was asleep, except of course, myself. It didn't happen often, and I didn't know why but I couldn't get to sleep. I lay there in the darkness, my brother and friends snoring silently near me. Nothing was going on outside to keep me awake, no apes having savage fights, no thunderstorm or simple heat lightning. Nothing should have me awake, and yet, there I was.

"Something's up," I said, walking out of the room and out to the temple's entrance. I passed the other room, which had the current Guardians there as well. They were all asleep. All but one.

"Ah, my son," Apollonir said, making me flinch, "What is keeping you awake?"

"I'd ask of you the same," I said.

"I don't know myself," he said, "I feel something important coming. A heavy feeling it is, and not a good one."

I walked up, and stood next to him. He was easily much taller than me, and bigger. At least now I was not a complete molecule compared to him.

We sat there in complete silence for maybe 5 minutes. Judging from the moon's position, I guessed it wasn't too late, 11:30 at least.

A few clouds were in the sky, and they moved slowly. They began to cover up the moon, and it darkened all around. Then, more clouds appeared around, somewhat faster, then more, even faster. In another 5 minutes, the entire sky was covered in clouds.

Then it began to rain. However, the rain wasn't any normal rain. Once it hit the nearby trees and plants, they either melted away or died. The grass it touched was sizzled as if it were on fire. This was acidic rain, rarely occurring. Yet the odd weather didn't stop there, as lightning began to crackly, except its color was a constant purple. Whenever the thunder rumbled, it actually shook the ground as if it were a mild earthquake.

My father stuck his hand out into the rain. Luckily, we dragons have strong scales, and the acidic rain just feels like rain. Continued exposure however lead to increasingly worse symptoms, starting with dizziness and coughing, and leading up to being blind for a short time. Whatever was outside should now be inside somewhere safe, or they face the consequences.

"Let's get to sleep, Ignitus," Apollonir said, turning his huge, red body around toward the temple.

I turned as well, and together we started walking back.

"And where do you think you're going?" A disorted voice spoke behind us.

My father and I turned around, with the voice echoing through our temple.

Landing at the entrance was a dark green dragon. He had 7 large horns embedded into his head, and two large wings folded on his sides. The Dark Guardian had an aura around him, sparkling green bio-electricity and flowing dark energy.

My father got between me and him. Soon, the others had woken up, at first complaining about the noise, then they saw the situation. The Dark Guardian however, threw his paws up as if he'd given up.

"Oh no," he says, "I don't wish to fight any of you… not yet at least," he said, a toothy grin appearing on his face. His sharp teeth looked menacing, like they could cut obsidian with ease.

"Then what do you want?" Apollonir said, growling and hissing at the evil one.

"To deliver… a message," the Guardian said.

He opened his maw, and charged a dark green beam of mana. It was small, but still ridiculously powerful. It caused winds to blow us back inch by inch, and we could feel its radiation from where we stood.

For a moment of pure terror, I thought this was it. I thought I'd die, without standing a chance, without putting up a fight.

Yet, the Evil Guardian stopped. The wind calmed and the only thing heard was the rain outside.

"A warning: You should give yourselves up now, and be done with it. The current Guardians and their families deaths will be painless, a privilege almost none receive. We would become the new Guardians, for all eternity, and plan to keep order in our world," he said.

I shook my head.

No, I thought, they're lying, they're evil. They'd murder us brutally and then rule the world with an iron fist. They'd kill millions just to assert dominance, then kill more for the hell of it.

"We don't believe you, now leave! You are not welcome here," Gravel warned.

"Very well, my counterpart," the Dark Guardian said, irritated, "I guess we will meet again, with claws at each other's throats."

He began to fly off, but not before Shiv suddenly ran up to the entrance.

"Hey! You forgot you're going away gift!" Shiv said.

He shot a powerful beam of ice at the Dark one. It glowed with light blue energy, and it seemed to make the temple slightly colder.

It hit the Dark Guardian with great accuracy. It caused an incredible, chilly explosion. It shook the land violently, and we could barely stand. The Dark One was completely engulfed in the blast, and we watched to see if any damage was done to him.

When he finally reappeared, he had nothing. No icicles, no shards, not even a single damn scratch.

"Arrogance…" The Dark One said, "I hope you will remember my name Brontes, and the names of the others: Spark, of the electricity, Hail of Ice, and Napalm, of the flame. We will be the ones who end your lives."

With that, Brontes left us in a flash.

All of us, glared at Shiv for his stupidity. He regained his composure, and did his best to ignore us.

"I don't get it," I said to my father, "How did they know we were-"

"Don't worry about it now, Ignitus. From what hes said, we know they won't attack us in the temple. It is safe now, so please, go to sleep," my dad said.

I nodded and got back to the room, and lid down for sleep. One thought remained in my head as I drifted off.

If you guys can't, we will.
