Soon, the friends were done eating and separated, starting to head home.

"See you tomorrow at school!" Zoe waved before heading down the street. April and Katie waved back before April led Katie home. Erin waved as well and headed down another way. She felt so full and the flavour of the pizza gyoza was still on her tongue. Erin outstretched her arms happily but suddenly stopped. She noticed a glow come from behind a cardboard box beside a building. She grew curious and got closer, moving the cardboard away to reveal an odd looking canister with glowing goop inside.

"Oh, cool!" Erin exclaimed. "It's a wicked lava lamp, I am so taking this!" She cheered, putting it into her bag and heading home quickly, prepared to put it up. Soon, she burst into her house.

"I'm home!" She declared. When she recieved silence, her shoulders sagged. "Oh yeah, they're working. Oh well!" Erin grinned and ran up the stairs and entered her room. She pulled out the canister and placed it on her desk, keeping it steady. The glow illuminated her dark room and she smiled before trying to search for any switch, which didn't seem to be there. She shrugged before flopping into bed. Tomorrow was going to be a long, boring day of school.

Timeskip

Erin stretched her arms above her head, glad that the school day was over. Her and the other three started to walk off out of the school quickly as they could. They continued to walk, chatting amongst each other. April didn't notice the person they were about to bump into and Katie crashed into the person, letting out a yelp. She dropped her books in shock as the person turned, brown eyes wide. It was a boy about their age with medium brown hair and a pair of rectangular-shaped glasses. His eyes widened and a small blush appeared on his face.

"I-I'm so sorry, Katie!" He apologised quickly, kneeling down to grab her books for her. Katie recognised the voice and felt her face heat up.

"Oh, h-hi, Alex." She said nervously. April, Erin and Zoe looked at each other with smirks.

"Who's this, Katie?" Zoe asked with a grin. Katie cleared her throat shyly as Alex grabbed her arms and placed her books back in her grasp gently. She muttered her thanks.

"Umm, guys, this is Alex Rybak. He's... in my music class." Katie introduced. "Alex, these are my friends, Erin and Zoe, and my cousin, April." Alex waved, a shy smile on his face. He scratched the back of his neck. He realised that his hand still rested against her wrist and he quickly pulled his hand away. Alex quickly turned away, clearing his throat.

"I'll, uh, see you tomorrow. Bye, Katie." He hurried off with an anxious look on his face. Katie called out her farewell when Zoe nudged her.

"Oooh! He likes you!" Zoe teased, making her friend turn bright red. Katie covered her blushing face and she ignored her. Her friends laughed quietly before they continued walking home. As soon as Katie had entered her house, she said goodbye to April and moved up her stairs. She headed into her room and felt around before finding her bed and sitting down. Katie thought about Alex's kind nature and amazing personality and blushed again. She gulped at the thought of him. She admitted that she really liked him and his brilliant musical talent but she knew it wouldn't work out, considering he fact that he probably would never like her back. Katie sighed quietly, before lying down on her bed and relaxing.

Zoe was in Erin's room, looking at the 'lava lamp' intently while Erin looked chuffed.

"It's pretty cool, isn't it?" Erin stated, looking at the swirling goo. Zoe hummed, looking a bit worried. This was an unknown substance and it looked pretty dangerous.

"Erin, this doesn't look safe. Have you gotten someone to check it? Hell, Katie is best at seeing if it's safe with her equipment!" Zoe exclaimed, tapping the glass. She cringed as the goop moved. Erin looked at Zoe with a slightly worried look. "I have a bad feeling about this canister, Erin. And I'm pretty sure it's not a lava lamp." Erin sighed. She knew Zoe's instincts were normally right and knew to ask Katie for help tomorrow.

"All right, I'll ask Katie for help tomorrow. You ready to go to the zoo? My parents are still up for taking us." Erin asked, smiling. Zoe nodded, grinning wildly.

"Yeah! I can't wait to pet the foxes and hold a snake!" She exclaimed in excitement, clasping her hands together with stars in her eyes. The thought of those animals made her want to burst with joy. The two dashed downstairs quickly, leaving the room behind as the odd canister kept on glowing, lighting up the dark corner of the room brightly.
