A/N: Thank you so much for the reviews and everything, I hope you enjoy the chapter, and please review, that'd be great. :)
"Okay, come at me!"
"Don't sound so intimidating, it's going to make me think you're going to give me a Zig Zag," AJ said, she and Dolph circling each other in the middle of the ring. He laughed and held his hands up like he wanted to lock up with her.
"I wouldn't use that immediately, I mean, come on, that's my finisher, I need to get in some offense first, you don't just hit a finisher right off the bat, come on, this isn't wrestling 101," he taunted her, and she grabbed his hands and locked up with him. He was courteous enough not to hold them above her head and make her jump up to grab them.
They locked up for a few second before he put her into a headlock. She called her spot, hooking her leg in front of his and pulling them backwards. She tried a pin, and he kicked out of it. She hopped up as he got up and she ran the ropes, hitting him with a clothesline, which he sold like she actually had forearm strength to knock him down. He got up again, and she hit him with another one, which he also sold like he was being beaten down by a 500 pound man.
"You don't have to sell everything like I'm murdering you," she laughed as she lay on the mat after he gave her a backbreaker. "It's just a practice match."
"Do you think I can turn this off?" he gestured to himself cockily as he hunched over and waited for her to get up. "Do you think you can take a sleeper hold?"
"God no! Not if you jump on my back!" AJ laughed as she got up. They circled each other again. "I think you would definitely knock me down if you did that. Can I try my move now? I know we haven't really done anything heavy, but I'd really like to show you and get your input on it. I know you're bigger than the divas, but I think it translates well to anyone since it's a submission hold."
"Yeah, okay, sure, I guess we can try it since it's obvious you are no match for me, and you wanted to quit before I showed you up, it's okay," Dolph nodded, and she scowled at him. He laughed, "Sorry, sorry, I know we're here because you want to perfect this move. So what exactly do I need to do?"
"Okay, I'm going to come at you, and you're going to catch me like I'm going to do a tilt-a-whirl, but instead of you flipping me into a backbreaker, I'm going to swing around. I'm going to need you to bed over, which shouldn't be too hard since it's kind of like you have me in a fireman's carry, does this make any sense? I can get into the hold position first so you can see what you need to do?"
"No, I'm following," Dolph nodded. "When you say swing around, where are you legs at that point?"
"I'm going to have them wrapped around your head…and you just asked that because you wanted me to say that my legs were going to be wrapped around your head, didn't you?" she folded her arms as she glared at him. He chuckled and shrugged mischievously. "Are you going to be an adult about this, or are you going to be a teenager?"
"I was going for teenager," he joked, "jk, jk, okay, so is it kind of like you're going for a hurricanrana?"
"No, not really," she was having a difficult time explaining. "Let's just walk through it."
"Okay, that sounds good," he said, "we'll take it slow, you know, just ease into it—"
"Stop acting like this is sexual!" she chastised him. "Not everything in this world is sexual, Dolph."
"It is if you try hard enough," he winked at her. "Okay, come here."
"Okay."
She ran towards him, and he lifted her like he was going to tilt-a-whirl her into a backbreaker, but instead of executing the move, she wrapped her legs around him so her body was facing down and came around the back of him, hooking one of her legs behind his neck. He crouched forward in order to compensate for their height difference, and she hooked her other leg around his left leg.
"Now, I'm going to pull your arm back," AJ said, "so if you can reach your arm back?" He did as he was told, and she grabbed his arm, locking the entire submission move into place and tightening her grip. "Okay, this is how the submission goes."
"Wow, okay, yeah, this is a great submission hold," he told her, "and I'm not just saying that because it looks slick, this is a really uncomfortable position to be in, especially with me being bigger than you, it makes it so you're really stretching me."
"Good," she said, "now that I have you right where I want you, I think that you should tell me I'm the better wrestler."
"Yeah, no way," he told her, "I will not tap out."
"Oh yeah?" she tightened her grip. It really was an uncomfortable position. Her left leg was pushing his neck down while her right leg hooked around his leg was causing his knee to buckle. Plus, she was wrenching his arm back, and she was going to win a lot of matches with this move.
"How do you expect the divas to tap out to this, like…tap out on your ass?" he asked.
"Um, oh, I didn't exactly think about that, but I guess so."
"Well, I'm tapping out," he told her, "this is uncomfortable. I'm used to having legs wrapped around my head, but this hurts."
"Yes! I win, you lose!" AJ said, letting go of the hold finally, neither one focused on the fact that AJ had her legs wrapped around his head, and his face was pretty much in her crotch the entire time. "I'm better, I'm the superior wrestler!"
"Zig Zag!" Dolph said, catching his finisher on her as she slammed back onto the mat. He quickly covered her, "One, two, three, bah Gawd, he's done it! He's pinned AJ Lee, I never thought this would happen! I never thought I'd see this with my own two eyes!"
"You're a jerk," she huffed at him. Neither one paid attention, again, that they were in very close proximity to one another. "I still win because girls rule and boys drool."
"Is that a scientific fact?"
"Yes, I did the research myself," she told him, "so the submission, do you think it's good?"
"I think it's great," he told her honestly, "I think you're going to win a lot of matches with that. I'm thinking we should go to Stephanie or Hunter or someone, and we should get you a title shot or at least a contender match to get to the title. Kaitlyn's spear is pretty vicious, but with that in your back pocket, I don't see her getting out of it. On the whole, you're a better wrestler than her too. You've got agility in your favor, and I've seen you wrestle, there are very few women here who are on your level."
"You really believe in me that much?" She was touched that he really seemed to be supporting her. When she was with Daniel, he tried to "mentor" her, but that simply meant that he berated her when she didn't do exactly what he said, and took all the glory when she did win.
"Absolutely, I do. The divas division is ripe for the picking, it's almost as if Kaitlyn is champion by default. You can take her. You can take them all. I believe that you're as good as they get."
"Thank you," she leaned forward to hug him. "It's so nice to have someone that actually believes in you and doesn't just say it to be nice. You're really nothing like I expected you to be, and I'm so glad to have you as my friend, you have no idea. And for the record, I care about you too."
"You're not like what everyone thinks of you, AJ," he hugged her back lightly. "I admit, I had the wrong idea about you too, but I've found that first impressions, hell, third, fourth, fifth, five hundredth impressions can be deceiving. I've learned my lesson in pre-judging someone."
"Thank you." There was nothing more she could say that would sound adequate except that.
"Okay, we'll give that a few more tries so you can perfect it then we have to get cleaned up because you're having lunch with your sister, and I'm having lunch with my brother then we're having dinner together, my treat."
"Your treat?" she raised an eyebrow.
"You're letting me stay at your place, it's the least I can do. I used to live here when I was in FCW, so I know some places."
"Is this just because you get my legs wrapped around your head? You know you don't have to wine me or dine me because of that," she joked, and he laughed. She had a wicked sense of humor, and he appreciated that.
"It's only partly the reason," he said, "now come on, we have to make sure you can get this move at any point during a match so you can win."
They practiced for about an hour before they hit the showers (separately), and got dressed back in their street clothes, leaving the training center. AJ dropped Dolph off at his brother's apartment complex before she drove to meet her sister. Dolph's brother would drive him back to her apartment when they were done, and she'd given him a spare key to get in, in case she wasn't there. She arrived at the restaurant she was meeting her sister at, and she parked the car, spotting her sister's car already in the parking lot.
When she walked in, Erica waved her over, and she sat down, "Hey, I'm not late, am I?"
"No, I've only been here five minutes," Erica said, "not even time to order my drink."
"Good, I was afraid Dolph and I ran long."
"Doing what?" Erica narrowed her eyes in suspicion.
AJ rolled her eyes at her sister's behavior, "We were practicing some moves at the WWE training center. I wanted to start doing a new submission move, and I needed to practice it on someone in a wrestling situation. That's what we were doing today, and that's why he's here."
"Is that safe? He's so much bigger than you? What if he does something to hurt you?"
"He wouldn't," AJ assured her.
"How do you know? AJ, you barely know this guy, and you're having mock wrestling matches with him, and you're making out with him, and you're trusting him an awful lot for someone you only started hanging out with a few weeks ago."
"I know what I'm doing," AJ insisted, and she wished her sister would trust her. "I went to him, it wasn't the other way around. I went to him asking for his help, and he was the one that agreed. He didn't come to me, and he's never come onto me, and I'm over all that."
"Are you sure?"
"What do you mean am I sure?" She was getting defensive now. "I know how I came across the past year, I know how I looked. I've had time to reflect on all that, and I made mistakes. I just wanted…I just wanted someone to love me after what happened with Daniel. I just kept looking because my heart was so broken after that, but I'm over that, I'm stronger now, and I'm not looking for a man to complete me. I don't need that."
"And yet here you are, making out with another guy," Erica pointed out. It wasn't that didn't trust Dolph or her sister (well, she didn't exactly trust Dolph, but he didn't seem as bad as the others), it was that this situation was weird, and she didn't want any more heartbreak for her sister.
"It's only for show, it's not like we've kissed for real or anything," AJ told her sister. "We've never kissed outside of the show. He's a friend, and I like having that again. He just gets me somehow, and I'm not looking for a boyfriend or anything. We're just friends, that's how we're going to stay, there are no romantic feelings between us."
"Are you sure about that?" Erica wondered.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"I'm saying that you're making out with a guy, you're acting like a couple, you're hanging out, and it's so easy to cross that line."
"I'm not looking for a relationship, I'm not putting my heart out there again."
"Little Bit, sometimes you don't get a choice in that," Erica said. She was worried for her sister's heart. She fell hard and she fell so easily, and if Dolph was as good a guy as AJ kept saying, what if she fell and Dolph didn't or even worse, what if they both fell and then it ended? She didn't know if her sister could handle any more of that. It was such a dangerous situation any way you looked at it.
"Well, I have a choice, and we're just friends."
