Another prompt meme prompt, this one from my-light-into-the-darkness: doctor/companion au
So this is basically a short little Klaroline/Doctor Who fusion, hope you enjoy!
"Soooo that's a spaceship."
"Technically it's more of a 'space and time ship,' but it can travel through space, yes."
"And it's bigger on the inside."
"That's due to quite an interesting feat of transdimensional engineering. You see-"
"And you're an alien."
"A Time Lord, to be precise."
"… Just how drunk are you?"
He stared at her in confusion for a few moments, unable to do anything but blink.
"And how drunk do you think I am?" Caroline continued, placing her hands on her hips as she raised an incredulous eyebrow at the strange British man standing next to the odd blue phone box.
"I'm quite sober, I can assure you, love. And I know you've only had a pint tonight," the man answered, cocking his head to the side as he watched her with a curious, yet somehow knowing eye.
"Riiiight. Yet you think I would still go into some weird old-timey police box with a strange, apparently crazy guy I just met? I may be a tourist, but I'm not an idiot."
He smiled at that, dimples appearing and making Caroline feel oddly comforted. "I don't think, sweetheart, I know."
That was met with a scoff and a scowl. "Oh really?"
"Really. Because I know more about you than you do yourself. And I know you want to come with me," he said simply, as if he truly did know what he claimed.
Now she knew he was crazy. "Well then, please, tell me all about me then, if you're such an expert," she taunted, eyes narrowing in annoyance.
"Very well. Your small town life isn't enough for you anymore, that's why you're here in England. You're just visiting, a week at most before you have to go back to your boring human life, but you wish it was longer; much longer. You deserve more, Caroline, and you know that, somewhere deep down inside. There's a whole world out there waiting for you; a whole universe. Great cities and art and music. Planets full of wonders you've never even dreamed of. And you could see all of it. I could show it to you. All you have to do is ask."
Caroline was struck speechless as the truth of his words hit her hard. How could he know all of that? Just who was this man, really?
"Come with me; be my companion for a time. I promise you won't regret it."
She paused, considering. Which was just crazy, right? Even thinking about accepting his offer. But there was just something about him…
"Show me. Your ship. Prove it," she said suddenly, eyes flashing with determination.
A slow smile formed on his face. "My pleasure," he said, gesturing in front of him as he opened the door.
"Wow." was all she could say as she walked inside. It was freaking huge. And definitely not just some ancient phone booth. Caroline looked over at him, knowing grin plastered on his face as he watched her with interest. "So you were telling the truth? All of it?"
"Of course, sweetheart. Every word."
There was another long pause where she took in her surroundings, considering, before taking in a deep breath.
"Well, if I'm going to be traveling with you, mind telling me your name?"
"They call me The Doctor," he answered, shooting her a wide grin.
"Doctor who?" Caroline asked with a frown, confused.
"Exactly."
She opened her mouth to reply before she lost her words, standing there open mouthed with a look wavering between annoyed and nonplussed. When she finally came up with a response she gave him a resigned look, complete with a heavy sigh.
"Okaaay… But I'm not just going to wander around 'space and time' calling you 'Doctor.' People will think I'm nuts. And one of us seeming crazy is more than enough," she said, mumbling the last part under her breath. "I need a normal name to call you."
"Hmm, alright, let me think," The Doctor said, index finger tapping his chin as he looked toward the ceiling. "I've always had a fondness for the name 'Klaus,' how does that sound?"
"Old and unusual, so perfect for you," she muttered pressing her lips together in a tight smile as she raised her eyebrows at his selection. "Klaus it is then."
"Welcome aboard, Caroline. Where to? Or should I ask 'when?'"
