A/N: Surprise! This story isn't dead after all, though it is fashionably late on the newest chapter. This was my fault due to sports injuries and travel, and I am very sorry to leave everyone hanging. Anyways, here's the newest chapter please enjoy.
Snow swirled quickly around two figures as they trudged their way across the frozen wasteland. Suddenly the tallest of the two stopped, his ears twitching, searching for any sound. "I don't hear anything" Jack whispered over the gentle wind as loudly as he dared. "That's the problem" Bunnymund whispered as he unhooked one of his boomerangs from it's leather holster. "I'll take the air, you use your tunnels" Jack grunted raising his staff in a silent signal to the wind. The large Pooka nodded in agreement as the silver haired Guardian was snatched away by a gust of wind that ruffled his fur.
Jack Frost landed on top of with silent feet. His staff was raised defensively, waiting for an attack from anywhere. When nothing on the snow covered rood stirred, Jack quietly snuck his way to a nearby skylight. Peering down through the frosty glass, the teen caught glimpses of North's once immaculate workshop. A feeling of remorse balled up inside the boys chest causing the glass beneath his pale hands to freeze over.
Suddenly the boys attention was snagged by a small hole appearing behind a pile of discarded toys. A pair of ears popped out, soon to be followed by the rest of the furry body of Bunnymund. At first the Pooka stayed absolutely still, crouching low to the ground to avoid being sighted. After a minute he straightened and turn his green eyes on Jack. All it took was a simple nod and the winter spirit got the message, its time to move.
The stone walls of North's workshop were deathly silent as the wind gracefully lowered Jack from the skylight he had just opened. The Winter Spirit perked up as Bunnymund appeared with both boomerangs drawn defensively. "Had a bit of a blue" the Pooka grunted before indicating a small pile of black sand that covered the floor near his feet. "Looks like you handled it pretty well" Jack commented with a teasing smirk that Bunnymund ignored. A silence fell over the two Guardians as they solemnly picked their way through the wreckage of North's workshop.
"There's nothing here, keep moving" Bunnymund growled once the pair made a clean sweep of the massive room. Jack nodded in agreement and fell in behind the large Pooka as they started down a small hallway. "I don't like this, its too quiet" Jack whispered nervously shifting on the balls of his bare feet. Bunnymund nodded in silent agreement, something was definitely wrong here. Suddenly a feral roar echoed across the cold tile of the hallway sending a shiver down Jack's spine. "That sounds like a mean beastie" Bunnymund said holstering his wooden boomerangs. Jack gave the Pooka a questioning look as he gently rapped the floor with a furry foot. Instantly a hole opened up in the tile and a wooden spear with a massive red plume shot out seconds before the hole closed up. "I think I needed something bigger" Bunnymund explained catching the spear and expertly swinging it in his paws.
Jack opened his mouth to reply but was silenced when a massive creature slammed into his body sending him flying. "Jack!" Bunnymund yelled turning to check on his companion, he realized his mistake too late. Before the Pooka could spin around he too felt himself painfully sliding on the tile. Slamming into the wall Bunnymund blinked the spots from his vision and willed himself to stay conscious. Beside him a still dazed Jack stumbled clumsily to his feet. "You're a mean one" the winter spirit grunted as his wooden staff crackled with power. In response the creature snapped its powerful jaws and stepped out of the shadows.
In all the beast had to be at least seven feet tall and must of weighed at least three hundred pounds. Its slender body was made of jet black sand that swayed and rippled with the creature's every move. Spikes protruded along the beast's arched back giving it a sinister look. "Don't worry, he's nothing but an overgrown cat" Bunnymund said noticing the creature's feline appearance. "Cats eat bunnies" Jack pointed out teasingly as the Pooka retrieved his spear from the ground. "Has he ever met a bunny that's six foot and a master of muay tai?" Bunnymund questioned leveling his spear at the cat like nightmare before him. In response the beast slammed its spiked tail into the stone wall shattering it into a million pieces that skittered across the floor. "I think he might of" Jack commented as his staff crackled with power.
The nightmare made the first move by lunging at Jack with such speed that the winter spirit barely had time to roll out of the way. Unable to recover from its failed lunge the beast slammed into the rock wall dazing it. Seeing an opening Bunnymund lunged toward and plunged his spear deep into its victim's rib cage. The nightmare let out a bone chilling roar and spun itself around clipping Jack with its tail sending him skidding across the frozen tiles. "Get out of here mate, I'll take on this show pony" Bunnymund yelled as the cat slowly stalked towards him with its bright red eyes glowing with malice. Jack was about to open his mouth to argue when a tremor shook North's workshop to its foundations.
"What's happening?!" Jack exclaimed as the stone hallway buckled and shook sending chunks of debris raining from the ceiling. "The whole bloody places is coming down" Bunny yelled trying desperately to keep his balance on the quaking floor. Suddenly a massive chunk of rock tore loose from the ceiling and smashed down on top of the nightmare that had been prepared to strike. "Head for the exit, get out of here" Bunnymund yelled over the cacophonous sounds of North's workshop collapsing. Nodding in agreement Jack turned to sprint down the hallway that he had just came down when the roof suddenly collapsed.
The hallway Bunnymund was sprinting down was quickly becoming less of a corridor and more of a tunnel. All around him the walls had begun to buckle and collapse. He had paused only once but that almost cost him his life when the roof started falling in on him. Suddenly the Pooka noticed the hallway opening up into a debris filled room. With one last burst of speed he shot out of the tunnel and bounded up a collapsed pillar that took him up to a pair of shatters windows. Pausing Bunnymund took one last look at the once immaculate workshop before jumping out into the freezing snow.
