"Should I go talk to her?" Jasper asks his friend.
"If you think that's what's best. You do you."
Jasper climbed the stairs to her room. He went to knock but heard the tears that the girl was shedding. He realized he needed to do something before he went in there. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number that needed to be dialed a while ago.
"Yeah Hi Maria. I think we need to break up," Jasper started.
"Wait you're breaking up with me. Are you serious? I would have given you everything ya know."
"I do know that and I don't want that right now. Sorry Maria," Jasper said closing the phone.
Jasper didn't want to make Alice talk if she didn't want to so he slid down the wall and sat outside her room. Alice had heard the whole conversation outside and was confused as to what was going on.
"What are you doing?" Alice asked opening the door.
"Waiting for you to be ready," Jasper responded.
"That's not what I meant and you know it."
"It's not fair to either me or maria if we were just a big lie. I never even really liked her to begin with."
"Then why did you date her in the first place?"
"I'm not sure. Maybe I was lonely. Maybe I was desperate."
Alice slid down the wall to sit next to Jasper.
"You lonely. Yeah right," Alice said sarcastically.
"Well it doesn't count if the right girl isn't one of the lonely seekers."
"Jas," Alice starts, "that's not me. You know that. I'm only thirteen. You're going to be a junior and I'm still in middle school."
"You don't think I know that. You don't think that I know this is weird. I hate myself for thinking this way about you, but I can't help it Ali. I'm not saying we need to date. By all means I just want you to be comfortable. You just needed to know what I feel."
"Jasper I'm just trying to save you. I'm the freak that no one likes. The freak that's been in rehab. The freak that doesn't even know herself yet. But I do know that I have been in love with you since I've been in the hospital. I know how it feels to be an outcast but you don't and I'm trying to protect you."
Jasper laughs to himself, "You're trying to protect me and here I thought you were the young one."
"I'm serious. You don't need to throw out your entire reputation because you want to try something with your best friend's baby sister."
"If I cared about reputations I wouldn't have spent all those years watching over you as a child. You've been in my life since I was four. I pretty much need you."
"Now that's where you're wrong. You don't need me. You want me. That's a big difference." Alice said getting up off the ground and started into her room, "Goodnight Jasper. I think you should figure yourself out before you decide who you need."
Jasper stood outside the closed door in shock. Here was this girl that grew up right next to him and she was putting him to shame. She made him look like he was a child. And he wondered when this beautiful little thing grew up so much. He realized she wasn't budging tonight and decided to go back to Edward.
"No such luck," Edward asked when his friend came into view.
"No," Jasper laughed, "She's worried about my reputation. But I could give a damn about it if she's not in my life."
"Just give her time. She's still young and she's probably confused as hell that someone who was pretty much her brother is now confessing his undying love for her."
"I know. I just wish it didn't hurt so much."
"I know buddy. Love sucks," Edward laughed while consoling his heart broken friend.
Alice sat up in her room with tears still flowing. She was so confused. She's has loved that boy for years. He couldn't mean it though. It was probably just a cruel joke everyone was playing on her. She told him no partly for his reputation, but mostly because she didn't want to get hurt by some stupid boy who just wanted to feel something.
