Fletcher was confused as to why his best friend offered to take him and the person she thought he hated to dinner. He understood why she would take him solely, but he didn't understand why Gabe had to come. Gabe had terrible dinner manners and he didn't eat with any grace. Fletcher knew that when they went all Gabe would do is embarrass them and Embarrass Mitsu. He didn't want his best friend being embarrassed by a unsophisticated ape who didn't know a salad fork from a regular fork. Fletcher laughed at the fact of Gabe ever being able to be civilized, because people like him would always be dirty and unsophisticated. He knew that Gabe would end up probably washing Fletcher's car when he got older and Fletcher knew that he himself would probably become a CEO of some big company. He enjoyed the fact of making his parents happy, but the idea of him being happy seemed to not be apparent. He wanted to be happy, he really did, but with his parent's unrealistic ideals it made it impossible for him to do what he wanted to do. He wanted to be a good son, but he also wanted do what Gabe said to have fun. He needed to have fun, but he didn't know if he could disregard his parents' wishes by not doing what they ask of him. He also knew he couldn't become a complete anti-social by not having fun, and he knew that's why people made fun of him. He knew that he had to learn to put studies behind him and actually go out and party. He had never been to a party before, and he always hears about how the parties are always so fun and everyone gets so drunk. Yet, he didn't think that children of his age should be getting drunk, but he didn't really care because he wanted to fit in and be normal. He wondered if fitting in was more important than his values, and at this point of his life he didn't care.
Fletcher almost had forgotten he was handcuffed to Gabe because he was being so silent, and because of this silence he didn't even realize he accidently lead Gabe into a wall making him fall over. Since Fletcher was significantly smaller than Gabe he fell over when Gabe fell over. Fletcher landed on top of Gabe as they fell, and he didn't even realize he was on Gabe. All he felt was his head fall into a soft and cushy surface and he didn't think that the surface was the floor because it was too soft. Looking up he realized he was on top of Gabe actually sitting on him pinning him down in a way. Gabe fell on his back and luckily his head didn't crash on the hard floor. Looking up as Fletcher fell on him in the middle of the hallway, and they locked eyes as their faces were mere inches apart. Fletcher looked into the raven haired boy's eyes and was simply mesmerized by his astonishing looks, and Gabe looked into the coco haired boy's eyes as he was equally mesmerized. They sat in the middle of the hallway with Fletcher on top of Gabe as they simply stared at each other in awe. Fletcher hadn't noticed how cute Gabe was when he was lying down and how innocent his eyes were, and Gabe hadn't realized how sexy Fletcher was and how innocent his eyes were as well. They didn't even seem to notice the plethora of people around them as they lay on top of each other. It was apparent to each other that they were completely in love with one another, but they didn't know if the other person felt the same way. They sat there and stared at each other as people began to gather around wondering if they were okay.
Fletcher was the first to realize what was going on and his cheeks instantly turned a bright shade of red as he got off Gabe quickly. He was too embarrassed to actually apologize and he couldn't even make eye contact with Gabe let alone say anything to him. Gabe was almost the same way, but he was the one to get up and literally pull Fletcher off of the ground. Gabe looked just as embarrassed as Fletcher was and as everyone realized that they were okay they began to clear out. Fletcher wondered what had just happened, because he had never been so mesmerized by people's eyes before. He had had start contests with Max all the time, but he never felt the way he did when he was looking into Gabe's eyes. He knew there was something different about Gabe, but he couldn't put his finger on it. Fletcher didn't think this way about any other guy. He didn't think of himself as a homosexual, but he was in love with Gabe and he couldn't even deny it. He sighed as he was lifted off the ground and onto his feet. He was happy that school was almost over, because he couldn't handle being alone around him. It was just too tempting and he feared he would do something really, really stupid. Gabe almost felt the same way about Fletcher. He knew that he thought some guys were attractive, but he never knew a guy he thought was as attractive as Fletcher.
Mitsu was following behind them at a distance and she couldn't help but chuckle to herself because of the scene she saw. It was apparent that they were in love with each other, but she didn't know whether that they'd ever be able to admit it to each other. Mitsu followed slowly behind as they started walking, and she blended into a crowd because she didn't want them to know that she was following them. Mitsu wanted Fletcher to be happy, but she didn't really like these red scare tactics of doing it. If she could only be open and tell them to admit it to each other, because it's so obvious, but she knew that they'd never admit it to each other because they're both stubborn. She sighed as she watched them as they swung their chained hands so close to each other and she hoped they would hold each other's hands like normal people, but she decided that she was wasting her energy. She knew that they'd never have the bravery to actually hold one another's hand, but she knew this dinner would progress things, and if they hadn't already have feelings for one another they would. She smiled as they entered the last class of the day and hopefully things would be moving more quickly than they already were.
Fletcher led Gabe into their normal math class because this was the only class that Gabe actually had with Fletcher, but somehow Gabe seemed to do badly in the class. Fletcher wondered how Gabe was able to get into the honors math class if he was such a terrible student. Fletcher thought that Gabe was smart, but didn't apply himself enough to do well. Fletcher wanted to help him, but he knew if Gabe didn't start applying himself in stuff that he did that even Fletcher wouldn't be able to help him. Gabe seemed lackadaisical in his thoughts about school. He wanted to do well, but he didn't feel like school actually helped him. He felt that all the work that they were making him do was just turning him off of school. He wished he could be like Fletcher someone who is so fucking brilliant and get straight A's without trying. Everyone wants to copy off of him and get his answers. Gabe knew that Fletcher wasn't liked, but rather used for his intellect. Gabe could admit that he used Fletcher sometimes for his intellect. He wished he could save people from using him, because now he felt an obligation to help him. It was mostly because they were handcuffed together, but also because he was in love with Fletcher and wouldn't use any idiot who didn't feel like doing the work to copy. Gabe then realized he didn't do the homework himself and he didn't want to but he could easily copy off of Fletcher. He figured that they were so close to each other that he wouldn't even noticed.
Math class went partially smoothly, because when Gabe tried to copy the answers off of Fletcher the teacher caught him, and Fletcher couldn't help but to giggle at him. Afterwards Fletcher dragged Gabe to his locker as he got everything he needed for homework and studying. Gabe said he didn't need to go to his locker because he never did homework. Fletcher thought this was unacceptable and made Gabe take him to his locker, and Fletcher helped Gabe pack everything he would need for homework. Fletcher looked at the books that they were reading in on level English and realized that he read these books years ago. He wondered how far behind regular English was from honors. He smiled because he liked Gabe for being a little less intelligent than him, because it also made him so much cuter. Fletcher wanted to just lean in and kiss Gabe, because the raven haired boy just looked so kissable when he was gathering all his books. Gabe noticed that Fletcher was staring at him, and he smiled softly to himself, because he thought that maybe Fletcher actually liked him, and if he did then he could ask him out and not feel bad. Fletcher noticed that Gabe noticed and smiled, and Fletcher realized that Gabe might actually like him back, but he knew that meant that everything that he said to him was true. He frowned now feeling bad.
Fletcher never had been on any other bus than his own, and he wondered if Gabe's bus would be as quiet and peaceful as his own. He wanted to get some reading done on the bus and if the bus was quiet and steady he would be able to. Fletcher realized as they approached his bus that his bus was anything but calm and quiet. Gabe saw the terrified look on Fletcher's face and chuckled a bit as he led him onto what Fletcher believed was the lion's den. Fletcher gazed in horror as he entered the bus of complete and utter discord. There were children jumping up and down, yelling, throwing stuff, and there were also loud obnoxious gossipy girls. Fletcher couldn't believe Gabe actually rode this bus and Gabe didn't even seem to be fazed by the loud noises of screaming an obnoxious music. Fletcher knew he wouldn't be able to read or get any work while they were on the bus. He followed as Gabe led them to his usually seat. He explained how he always sat alone, and Fletcher collapsed next to him. He decided he would at least try to get some reading in because he had to know what happened next in the story. The plot was eating him from the inside out. The plot had just gotten good and Fletcher didn't want to wait until they got home. Gabe looked at him oddly as he took out his book, and Gabe couldn't believe that Fletcher could actually try to read on his bus. Gabe figured that Fletcher must be on one of those quiet rich people's busses, and Gabe was actually jealous because he wished his bus would be quiet. Sometimes in the morning he just wanted some peace and quiet but the loudness of the bus kept him from going back to sleep. He looked at Fletcher as he began reading his book and thought that he had this cute book worm look to him, and he didn't even notice when he placed his hand on Fletcher's leg. Fletcher saw Gabe place his hand on his own leg and wondered if this was joke, but as he looked at Gabe's face he knew it wasn't. He couldn't believe it. He couldn't believe that Gabe was touching him so tenderly now. He couldn't believe that the possibility that Gabe actually liked him was true. Fletcher began to blush slowly and Gabe didn't remove his hand. Gabe decided to scoot even closer and flirt a bit because he realized that that was the only way to do things anymore.
"Fletcher, what are you reading that's so important it can't wait until we get home?" Gabe asked gazing at the cover definitely not recognizing the title. Fletcher giggled a bit realizing what he was doing.
"Well if you must know, Gabe. I'm reading this nice little book called, "The Catcher in the Rye", and it's an absolutely wonderful book," Fletcher responded and Gabe looked at the cover with a mixture of confusion and wonder.
"You're reading a book about a type of bread?" Gabe asked and Fletcher chuckled again kind of admiring Gabe's ignorance when it came to American Literature.
"No, it's about a seventeen year old boy named Holden Caulfield and he got kicked out of his boarding school and is 'living' in New York City doing crazy things," Fletcher explained and Gabe thought the book was kind of interesting and he got closer so they were touching shoulders.
"That sounds so cool. Could you read it to me when we get back home?" Gabe asked and Fletcher looked at him as if he were a child, because that sounded extremely childish.
"You want me to read you this whole book, in one night?" Fletcher asked and Gabe shook his head smiling a bit, and Fletcher was obviously confused.
"Not in one night, silly. That's completely unrealistic. I want you to read a bit of it every night to me before I go to bed," Gabe said and Fletcher couldn't believe what he was hearing. Gabe the most popular kid in school wanted him the loser to read to him before he went to bed. He wanted to chuckle a bit, and he wanted to tell Gabe who childish this was, but for some reason he couldn't. He believed he had every right to completely make fun of him because of how much he made fun of him, but Gabe looked so innocent and childish that Fletcher couldn't bring himself to do it. He simply smiled and Gabe.
"Sure, if that's what you really want. I must warn you that this book is quite complex, and if you want I can explain it to you as we read it," Fletcher said and Gabe's lit up, and this threw Fletcher off guard, and he looked at Gabe weirdly.
"Please do, because the more I learn from you the closer I'll be to actually getting straight A's," Gabe said and Fletcher couldn't help but to giggle, because he didn't think that listening to his analysis of a book would make him any better at school. Gabe smiled and looked out the window not once removing his hand.
The bus arrived at their stop and they got off of it slowly, and Fletcher looked around the middle class neighborhood. He had never been to this part of his town before and he was quite interested in how it worked. Gabe saw the look of wonder in Fletchers eyes and figured that he had never been to this part of town before. Fletcher had always lived in a life of high class and never been in a middle class home. He wondered if he could live without his espressos in the morning and his tea in the afternoon. Fletcher knew if things came to it that he would make himself some coffee and make himself some tea. They walked towards the front door and Gabe tried the knob and it was locked, and this was odd to him, because the door usually was open this late in the afternoon. He knew his brother and sister must have been home by then because their school ended significantly sooner than his own. Gabe sighed and took out his key unlocking the door, and Fletcher followed him inside as Fletcher gasped at the décor. Fletcher never realized how a middle class home could look so beautiful and Gabe rolled his eyes as he acted based on instincts and went to the kitchen for a snack. Fletcher was dragged along not really understanding what Gabe was doing, but not really caring because he was blown away by the cheap furniture and almost natural feeling of this home.
Gabe scowled and took out some Oreos and poured himself some milk and looked at Fletcher and realized he could probably make him some food too. Gabe pulled out some Oreos for fletcher and poured him a glass of milk as well. Gabe then noticed a note on the fridge saying that his mother had taken his older brother and sister to get their drivers licenses together, and that she didn't know when they were supposed to be home. Gabe thought this was perfect and handed Fletcher a plate of Oreos and a glass of milk. Fletcher stared at the food he had been given as they sat down on the couch as Gabe began watching television. Fletcher had seen these snacks before but never was allowed to have them. Fletcher's parents didn't believe in cheap cookies and cheap milk, and Fletcher bit into his first Oreo and was filled with pure ecstasy.
(Skipping ahead for plot wise: Three hours later)
Fletcher was tying Gabe's tie and Gabe didn't look very pleased to be placed into a tie. Gabe didn't understand why they had to dress all formally, because he didn't think dinner was all that important. Fletcher had told Gabe to behave himself and if he embarrassed Mitsu that Fletcher would never forgive him. Gabe sighed as Fletcher finished tying his tie and he stepped back looking at Gabe. Fletcher couldn't believe how unbelievably sexy Gabe looked in his dress shirt and tie. Gabe could almost say the same thing about Fletcher. Fletcher looked so cute and adorable in his own dress shirt and tie that Gabe could just hug him and never let go. They both heard a car honk from outside and they rushed outside to see a limo standing before them. Fletcher couldn't believe that Mitsu had rented a limo to pick them up. They got into the limo and the ride to the restaurant was relatively short and they pulled up to a large and colorful restaurant. Fletcher thought this place couldn't possibly serve authentic Japanese restaurant, and that this place was going to be crap. Fletcher than thought if this place was so exclusive than the food must be at least decent and Fletcher turned to Gabe who seemed to be amused by the shining lights. Gabe had never seen such a large restaurant and such a colorful one at that too. He wanted to come back here someday, but by the way it looks it looks like only Fletcher's family could really afford this. Gabe wasn't as wealthy as Fletcher and his family was on the bottom rungs of middle class.
Mitsu was outside waiting for them and when she saw them pull up she smiled happily. Mitsu was wearing this adorable Hello kitty dress that seemed to be for a girl of a younger age. However, it seemed to fit her just right and it looked formal as well. Jake was also standing next to her, and Gabe wondered if those two were ever separated. Mitsu led them inside and they were led to this beautiful table that was adjacent to the large fish tank with all these different types of tropical fish. Fletcher thought this must be the most exclusive and expensive table in the whole restaurant. He wondered how she was able to get them such a perfect table, and Gabe was almost as amazed as Fletcher. He was too fixated on the fish that were in the tank beside the table to be worried about how expensive or exclusive the table was. They all sat down in the booth. Mitsu and Max on one side and Gabe and Fletcher on the one, and Fletcher purposely made Gabe take the inside seat so his bad table manners wouldn't be seen throughout the whole store. Their beautiful Asian host gave them their menus as they quickly looked through it for drinks and another equally as beautiful Asian woman walked over smiling, and Mitsu obviously knew her.
"Hey sis, I purposely got them to let me serve you guys. Hello everyone I'm Yoko, mitsu's older sister, and your server tonight. What can I get you all to drink?" Yoko said smiling as Gabe noticed her dark brown hair with red highlights.
"I'll have the green tea," Mitsu said in Japanese to her sister, and none of them knew what she said, but Yoko smiled and wrote it down.
"I'll have a virgin Shirley Temple, with refills," Max said and Yoko gave him an odd look because she knew that their meals, drinks, and deserts were free. She wasn't too happy about them abusing this privilege.
"I'll have this drink," Fletcher said pointing the green beverage and he could only read the word 'rainbow' Yoko smiled and wrote it down.
"That's called an Irish Rainbow, non-alcoholic I assume?" Yoko said and Fletcher nodded as she turned to Gabe who smiled.
"I'll have a coke," Gabe said and Fletcher sighed.
"Gabe, we're in an expensive restaurant and you order a coke?" Max asked giggling a bit to himself and Gabe growled.
"I'll have your most expensive, fruity, non-alcoholic drink place," Gabe said and Yoko sighed and wrote down a name.
"Alright, I'll be back for your orders," Yoko said walking away and Fletcher turned to Gabe with anger for some reason, and both Max and Mitsu saw his anger and they sighed.
"God Gabe, why do you have to act like such trailer trash?" Fletcher said and Gabe scoffed and crossed his arms making Fletcher's hand fall really close to Gabe's crotch.
"Trailer Trash? How dare you? I do not act like trailer trash!" Gabe yelled back, but not loudly enough for people to start staring.
"Yes, you act like such and idiot and ill-mannered child, but you," Fletcher began and Gabe was confused as to why he stopped.
"But I'm what? A moron? A bad student? A bad influence?" Gabe said and Fletcher's face began to redden and Mitsu subtly smiled as she realized it was going to happen now.
"No, you're better than you act!" Fletcher blurted out and Gabe went silent and everyone at the table went silent as well.
"Better? What do you mean better? Why do you care?" Gabe said and Fletcher decided he couldn't hold it in any longer.
"You want to know why I care, Gabe." Fletcher asked sighing.
"Yes, tell me," Gabe said and Fletched looked into his eyes.
"I care because I love you and I don't want you to ruin your life acting this way!" Fletcher blurted out and he instantly covered his mouth not believing what he just said. He had just admitted his love to Gabe and Gabe looked like he was about to kick his ass. Fletcher had to think quickly, because he didn't want to create any more issues, "I'm sorry Gabe, I didn't mean to say that. I love you, but I would understand if you hate me now, I really-," Fletcher began before Gabe cut him off.
"Shut up," Gabe said softly.
"Sorry," Fletcher said.
"I said shut up and listen!" Gabe said and Fletcher looked at him.
"What?" Fletcher said as Gabe did something he wasn't expecting at all. Gabe leaned in and kissed Fletcher on the lips tenderly only allowing their lips to touch for a brief moment.
"I love you too, dork," Gabe said and Fletcher couldn't believe it. His dreams had finally come true, and Gabe actually loved him.
