Tori barely noticed the drive from Hollywood Arts to the Hospital. Her mind was way too occupied to pay attention to the drive or anything her girlfriend Jade or Cat were trying to tell her. She felt dumb for not predicting such a reaction from Beck. She declined him once because of her friendship to his ex girlfriend, and now she was kissing that very same girl in front of him without thinking about her friendship towards him for a moment.
As she walked into the Hospital, she felt someone grab her arm. She turned around and looked at the Goth. Both stood there, just staring one at the other.
"I'm gonna go ask where they are." Cat said and walked off.
"Come on, talk to me. I can't read minds like you can." Jade said, not letting go of Tori's arm.
"I can't read them either." Tori said.
"You know what I meant. Look, Beck is mad at us. I understand. And we will talk to him. He and I haven't been together for almost two years now. He has no reason to be angry with me dating someone else. And he has no reason to be angry with you for dating me." Jade said.
"But he does." Tori said, letting out a long sigh. "I once rejected him because of you, because dating your ex boyfriend is something I couldn't do to you. But now I suddenly have no problem dating his ex girlfriend?" Tori asked. "I'm a hypocrite."
"Were you in love with him?" Jade asked.
"W-What?"
"Were you in love with him?" Jade repeated, staring right at the other girl.
"No. No I wasn't." Tori said.
"What about me then? Are you in love with me?" Jade asked.
Remembering what happened earlier in the morning; the smile she had after waking up next to the Goth; how happy she felt after waking up next to her; she realized just how obvious the answer is.
"I am." Tori said. She heard that small breath escape Jade as she relaxed, barely keeping a smirk off of her face.
"Then you are not a hypocrite." Jade said.
Just as Tori wanted to jump into Jade's arms and kiss her, she saw Cat walking towards them, Courtney and Sinjin walking next to her.
"You brought them here?" Jade asked, looking at her best friend.
"I didn't want to cut in on your conversation. I already explained to them what we are going to do." Cat said.
"You don't have to do this. We don't want your pity." Sinjin said, looking at the floor.
"Well sad for you. We already planned everything out, and we are definitely not going to change it now." Jade said.
Tori chuckled before she saw Courtney walk towards her.
"You are helping us again." Courtney said as she looked at the half Latina.
"I had nothing to do with that. Beck got all this started. But we will help him and the guys as much as we can." Tori said, smiling at the other girl. Courtney smiled too, and without saying another word, wrapped her arms around Tori.
"Thank you, but I can't accept this. It's too much." Courtney said.
"Well sad for you too, then." Jade said. "Come on, the guys are already waiting at your place." She said and walked out of the hospital, towards her car.
Courtney pulled away from Tori and looked towards Jade in confusion, just like Sinjin. Cat chuckled at their reaction, imagining how confused they are with Jade's behavior.
"She's in a really good mood." Cat said as they made their way towards Jade's car.
They arrived at the Van Cleef residence only to find that the guys were already there. Tori got out of the car and saw Beck talking to someone in a large truck while Andre, Robbie and Simon were already clearing the debris around the house. Once they noticed them arrive, all three walked up to the siblings.
"Hey guys. I'm sorry about the roof, but we will get it all fixed today. How's your mother?" Andre asked as they stopped in front of Jade's car.
"She'll be there for a week or two, but she will be fine." Sinjin said. "Guys, I can't thank you enough for doing this, but we can't even pay for the tiles."
"And you won't have to. Beck over there has figured all of this out. The guy in the truck here has taken some measures and will drive right now to pick up enough tiles. We should be done today." Andre said.
"Guys… You can't…" Sinjin said, looking at them in disbelief.
"We can. I mean, we are already doing it. If anything, you got us a day or two away from school. We should thank you." Robbie joked, patting his curly haired friend on the shoulder. "Also, this will be the most exercise I've ever gotten."
"Didn't you two once take ballet?" Simon asked, looking at Andre and Robbie.
"Hey, we don't talk about that around here!" Andre said, earning an amused chuckle from Simon.
"We also still have a fake ping pong team we use to get free dinner." Cat said.
"And we once left a little Asian girl hanging from the rafters in the Blackbox Theatre after a play." Jade said, motioning between her and Tori.
"What school did I transfer into?" Simon asked, looking between all of them.
Tori only laughed at the lighthearted moment. She glanced towards Courtney, who only looked down at her feet. Tori saw that her shoulders slowly began trembling. She took a step towards the small blonde girl and pulled her into a hug again.
"It's okay. It's okay." Tori whispered, hoping to calm down the small, fragile blonde.
"I…I…I never imagined…" Courtney began, but suddenly felt another arm around her shoulder.
"You can start now." Jade said as she gently rubbed her back. Tori looked at her in surprise, but Jade only returned a small shrug and smile.
"Group hug! Yay!" Cat called and wrapped her arms around Jade and Courtney. "Everyone! Group hug!"
"Oh what the hell." Andre said and joined in. Immediately after, Simon and Robbie joined in, pulling Sinjin with them.
"Beck, come on, get on it too." Robbie called.
Tori's eyes immediately shot up towards him. He was standing there, by himself. The truck left while they were talking. He just stood there and looked towards them. Tori saw that he still was angry. He had his poker face on, something he always hid his anger behind. Just as Tori wanted to walk over to him, she saw his shoulders relax. His eyes closed as he let out a sigh and began walking towards them. Tori looked at Jade, who was staring towards her ex too. He stopped next to Andre and Robbie and joined in on the hug.
"So…Why are we all hugging?" Beck asked.
"You need a reason for group hugs?" Cat asked, faking disbelief.
"Sorry I asked." He said, letting out another long breath as he looked up and towards Tori and Jade.
"Okay guys, time to go to work." Jade said. "And this is making me uncomfortable."
They all pulled away and patted the two siblings on the shoulders, reassuring them again that everything would be fine.
Jade and Tori walked towards Beck, who only stared at them.
"I'm so sorry, Beck. I didn't mean to hurt you with this." Tori apologized immediately. "I know you think that I'm a hypocrite because of this, and maybe I am after what I did before those damn Platinum Music Awards, but… I'm really in love with Jade. I am. After all that has happened… She understands me… She…"
"Look, we've been together for two years and it didn't work out. I was always jealous and you were always…distant. And sometimes you would make me jealous almost out of spite, and I would always fall for it. But with her… I don't feel that jealousy now. I don't. I feel like I do know her. I know that she would never do something like that to me because she knows how it feels. I know that she understands my family situation better than anyone ever could… I know that she will be honest with me no matter what; even if it could have bad consequences for her." Jade explained, looking right at Beck. "Something you were not."
"Why do you even ask for my approval now if you didn't care to tell or ask me before? Instead I have to see you two, after all I've gone through with you, just pull that stunt off back in school. Do you know how that felt? Like a big fuck you Beck, who cares how you feel about this. Why is it suddenly important what I think about your…relationship or anything?" Beck asked.
"I didn't do that to spite or provoke you." Tori said, her voice almost breaking as she was holding back tears. "I did it because I didn't want any more secrets between all of us. All these goddamn years nobody has told anyone anything it seems. I didn't think it through, okay? I didn't, and I'm sorry that you saw it that way. Do you really believe that we don't care about how you feel?" Tori asked.
"Yes. I do." Beck said.
"Then you are a moron." Jade said.
"Thanks for that." Beck uttered.
"Listen. If we didn't care we wouldn't be talking to you right now. We would be over there helping clean this mess up. But we are here right now because we care about you. After those two years, even if we haven't had the best relationship since our breakup, you still mean the world to me, you jackass! And I still want you to be a part of my life; but not as a boyfriend. I don't love you like that anymore. But I do love her like that. I realized that after our fight on Friday. She just left… by herself to walk home: Friday night, walking alone through LA by herself because I overreacted. I couldn't stop thinking about her. I couldn't pretend that I didn't care. And I understood why on Saturday when I saw her again. So last night, one moment it just felt right to kiss her. And I did. And it felt right. It felt good. So I'm sorry that you had to find out the way you did, and I'm sorry if all this is hurting you, but I'm not going to leave her even if you hate me for that." Jade said, ignoring the tears that were running down her cheeks.
"Please, after all we've all been through… don't make me feel guilty for this too. I beg you. You are one of my best friends, no matter what. Of course your opinion matters to me. Of course you matter to me. But I really am in love with her, and that won't change." Tori said. She felt a hand take hers, and as she glanced down, she saw that it was Jade's hand holding hers right now.
Beck closed his eyes again. He shook his head lightly before he lowered his stare towards the ground.
"I was going to ask you to give me another chance, Jade." Beck said.
"W-W-What?" Jade barely uttered.
"I thought a lot about my life in the last few days, ever since I started going to therapy. I realized how much this thing with my mother and my past influenced my life and my behavior without me even noticing. And then I thought of you…well… of us. I realized all the times I would do something to make you start arguing with me… All the times I was mean to you for no reason. I realized that I am responsible for so many things that cause us to break up. And then that fucking day I didn't open the door… That was the second biggest mistake in my life. And when I saw Robbie man up and ask Cat out and all that on Friday morning… I realized that I had to do it too if I wanted to make things right. But that won't happen, now." Beck explained, finally looking up and towards Jade.
"I had no idea, Beck." Jade said. "But it doesn't change anything."
"I know. And if what you two told me is true… If you two are serious with this… I'm not going to be the asshole standing in your way, no matter how much it pains me." Beck said.
Tori felt a giant burden fall off of her shoulders. She immediately hugged him, crying on his shoulder. But then, her vision turned blurry and she saw a familiar light:
"No, stay. This is not something I want or need to hide." Tori said as she looked back at Jade. "I want this to work. But for that I also have to do something." Tori said as she stepped closer to Jade. "So if you ask me, you are in a relationship right now."
A smile formed on Jade's lips as she immediately cupped Tori's cheeks with her hands and kissed her.
"Thank you." Jade said. Tori smiled before she looked back at their friends.
"Congratulations."
"I didn't want to hurt you. I didn't… I didn't…" Tori repeated, guilt overtaking her after she saw the memory.
"I know. Just give me some time." Beck said as tears began to slide down his cheeks too.
"Beck…are you okay?" Jade asked, not remembering the last time she saw him cry openly.
"No… But don't worry… I haven't been okay in a long time." Beck said as he gave her a small, weak smile. "You two have my blessing, and all you want. I know you will be happy." He said before he pulled away from Tori's embrace and walked back towards the Van Cleef residence.
Tori watched him walk towards the house and noticed that Andre had been looking their way, possibly watching them all the time. He patted Beck on the shoulder as soon as he got there, saying something to him Tori was too far away to hear.
"We got his blessing." Jade said, looking at her girlfriend.
"I saw his memory. It's from this morning… when we kissed…" Tori said, not able to stop herself from crying.
"Damn it… Why can't something be easy just this once…" Jade said, shaking her head.
"Come on, let's go help the others." Tori said.
"Wait." Jade said, holding Tori's hand and stopping her from leaving.
"Huh?"
"We're all in this together now, it seems. And we'll be alright. This… this talk was a good thing. Better than ignoring it."
"I know you are right. But it doesn't make me feel any less guilty." Tori said.
"Me neither. But he did say that he won't be in our way… that we have his blessing. I believe that he meant all that." Jade said.
"I hope you are right." Tori said.
"So this part you only hope that I'm right?" Jade asked. Tori only shrugged. "Well then, I can give you something you can be sure is true: I love you and I'm in love with you. And we will make it, no matter what. Do you believe that?" Jade said.
"I do. And I love you too." Tori said. Jade hugged her in response and leaned her forehead on Tori's.
They both stood there for a few moments without saying another word, allowing the presence of the other to calm them down.
"Let's go help them now." Jade said, speaking up first.
"Okay." Tori said, pulling out of the hug. Both girls walked towards their friends, not for a moment letting go of each other's hand.
