A FEW DAYS LATER
Rum POV
After settling into the spot I had chosen to hide in, I started dosing off. I woke up to the sound of people talking. To my surprise, when I peeked out, I saw Penguin and Shachi. I tried to listen to what they were talking about.
"...it's too bad the girls couldn't stay on," said Shachi.
"Yeah, but the Captain doesn't want them on board, and I know Saké didn't want to stay on board either," Penguin replied.
Well, at least some of the crew likes me… I thought to myself. My legs were getting sore though, so I tried to readjust myself, which ended up being an extremely bad idea because that caused me to fall out of my hiding spot. I hit my head while falling down.
"Motherfucker, that hurt." I sat up and started rubbing my head.
"RUM!?" Penguin and Shachi shouted together.
"Yes, it is I; now please do not shout," I said lazily.
"But the Captain said you weren't going to be staying on the ship or as part of the crew. Why are you still on the ship?" Shachi asked, rather confused.
"Well...I snuck back on to the ship after letting Law think I was leaving...and now I have to somehow convince him to let me stay, let me become part of the crew, and not kill or experiment on me," I explained uncaringly. I actually was slightly nervous, though. What if I couldn't convince him?
"And how exactly are you going to convince him to let you stay on the ship and become a crew member?" Penguin asked.
He had a point.
"Well...I hadn't thought that far. I just figured every time he tried kicking me off I'd just sneak back on..." I said, laughing awkwardly. "I guess I didn't have this as well thought out as I thought I did."
Shachi and Penguin both deadpanned, causing me to giggle at their reactions.
"Now, I have a question for you two," I started.
"What is it?" Penguin asked apprehensively.
"Has the ship left the port yet?"
Shachi and Penguin exchanged looks.
"Yes it has, but why?" Penguin asked.
"No real reason… Now I have another question for you guys, how long have we been at sea?" I looked between the two of them, searching for the answer.
Shachi and Penguin exchanged glances again.
"Uh...we've been at seas for about five days now..." Shachi said
"Alright," I said while tilting my head to the side. "Someone is coming. I'm going to go hide." I moved to the hiding spot behind part of the engine, leaving Shachi and Penguin looking confused as the door opened and in walked Law.
Law's POV
I walked into the engine room to check on Shachi and Penguin. They were just standing there with confused looks on their faces.
"Is something wrong?" I asked them. Apparently they hadn't noticed me come in: they almost jumped out of their skin when they heard my voice before turning around quickly with a scared look on each of their faces.
"Nothing, sir, nothing's wrong," Shachi said quickly, looking to his left where there was a little cove that just goes into the back.
"Just checking on the engine. It's kinda our job." Penguin starts to laugh nervously while playing with the collar of his suit.
"Oh, really?" I asked as the room got slightly dark. "I don't like being lied to. You two aren't lying, are you?" I started to glare at him and move closer.
"I swear, I-" Shachi was cut off when we heard a loud bang and Rum came rolling out of the cove Shachi was looking at.
"Owww, that hurt," she said has she held her head, not looking up.
"...What are you doing here?" I asked slowly.
Rum POV
My head snapped up.
Well, fuck. I have no idea what to tell him.
"Well, you see...Yeah, I got nothing right now. If you come back in like...an hour? I may have something," I said while rubbing my hands together.
"No. You will tell me what you're still doing on my ship," Law demanded, redirecting all his attention to me.
"Uh...well, technically this is a submarine, not a ship, and I thought maybe I could convince you to let me stay on and be a part of your crew," I said, backing up a few steps, doing my best to maintain eye contact.
"Oh? And why would I want you to be on my crew?"
"I know things. I am a fast learner. I can cook. I can fight - like, I'm a really kick ass fighter. I know how to use weapons. Honestly, you would – no, you could only benefit by having me join your crew. Plus, I have knowledge of basic first aid and I know quite a bit about plant life as well… So seriously, I would be like, a major addition to your crew, Law."
Hopefully that works. I certainly want to avoid telling him what I know about this world and what is going to unfold. That is basically the only card I have left at this point, I thought while looking at Law, worried about his response.
After a few moments of silence, Law finally answered.
"When we hit the next island, you will be off my ship," he commanded while walking away.
"Okay~ Mr. Boss Man, you win. I'll get off at the next port," I said with a grin and a poor Mexican accent while waving my hand back and forth.
Law POV
I started walking away when I heard Rum-ya say "Okay~ Mr. Boss Man, you win. I'll get off at the next port." in an odd accent. As if she wasn't taking this seriously.
I felt my eye twitch but I continued walking out of the engine room regardless.
Rum POV
"So...that was fun..." I said after Law had walked out.
"F-F- FUUUUUUN?!" Shachi and Penguin yelled in unison. I just looked at them with a serious face and began singing what immediately came to mind.
"F is for friends who do stuff together! U is for you and me! N is for anywhere anytime at all here in the deep blue sea!" I sang out.
Shachi and Penguin only looked further concerned for me.
"...What?" Shachi asked
"Sea sponge." I said and walked out.
Penguin POV
"Did she say sea sponge?" I asked, looking at Shachi.
"Yes, she did."
"Is she insane?"
Rum POV
'Ah, good ol' referencing… Too bad the only person who would understand isn't here...' I sighed and my stomach let out a growl.
"I need foooood." I moaned out. I turned around and walked back to where I left Penguin and Shachi.
"Is she insane?" Penguin asked as I walked back into the engine room.
"Jury's out," I interrupted, making both of them jump. "Can one of you guys show me where I can get some food? I'm hungry."
"Well, it is about lunch time..." Shachi said.
"I guess it wouldn't hurt to go see how long it'll be until lunch.." Penguin added.
"And you haven't eaten..." Shachi continued.
"Great! Let's gooo!" I said, grabbing both of them by their arms and dragging them out of the room.
"Okay, okay, we're going! Just let us go!" Penguin said while trying to take back his arm.
"Fine." I huffed, letting their arms go. "Lead the way, boys."
"You're annoying. You know that, right?" Shachi said while walking in front of me.
"Yes, I do. One of my many trademarks." I replied with a smile.
(a few minutes later at the mess hall)
"HELLO EVERYONE" I said as I entered the mess hall with a big grin on my face.
Everyone looked up at me and went into shock, obviously having not expected me to be there.
"What are you doing here?" Bepo asked after he recovered.
"I am going to join this crew," I told him with another grin.
Out of nowhere, the room suddenly turned very cold. I felt my spine shiver as I heard Law's voice from behind me.
"No, you're not. You are getting off at the next island."
Everyone went quiet as I turned around to see a pissed off Law.
"We will see, now won't we?" I challenged with a cat-like grin.
"No, we won- " Law started to say.
"I'm going to get some of that delicious smelling food," I said, interrupting Law and walking towards the small line for food.
After I got my meal and went to go sit down across from Penguin and Shachi, I looked around around the room at everyone's faces – and Law was glaring at me still.
"Why does everyone look like they just saw a ghost?" I asked taking a bite of my food.
"You interrupted the Captain..." the guy to the right of me said. Surprisingly, he just had a simple baseball cap for a hat.
"Oh, yeah, I can see the error in that. I don't believe we've met before, actually," I said.
"It's Leroy," he introduced with a small grin.
"I'm Rum. I may ask you for your name again, I am not that good with names," I said with a grin.
"I thought you could recall information instantly, Rum-ya?" I heard Law ask from where he was sitting.
"That is where you may be correct, Law-ya, but I have always been horrible with names and it's too much of a hassle most days to bother instead of just asking for the name again. But damn, this food is so good!" I smiled.
"At least someone appreciates me!" I heard from the kitchen.
"Of course I appreciate you, Marshal! Your food is amazing!" I yelled back to the kitchen, while finishing up my food.
"So, why are you still on the ship?" Vlad asked after I finished.
"I snuck back on and hid in the engine room," I said.
"Yeah, she scared the shit out of us," Shachi said, annoyance evident in his tone.
"How did you sneak back on?" someone wearing a canary yellow baseball cap with the crew's jolly roger sewn onto it asked.
"First, what is your name, canary yellow? And a magician never reveals their secrets!" I replied.
"My name is Ricky. Come on, share your skill," Ricky requested.
"And what do you do on the this here submarine?" I asked, not answering his question.
"I'm one of the engineers. And why'd you change the subject? Just answer the question," he pushed.
"I will not. My lips are sealed," I said, zipping my lips with an imaginary zipper.
Just then Marshal walked out of the kitchen and headed in the direction of the table I was sitting at with Penguin, Shachi, Vlad, and Ricky.
"Why can't you guys appreciate me like Rum and Saké do?" he asked, sitting down next to Vlad.
The guys let out a collective groan and glared at me. I let out a nervous chuckle and scratched my cheek. The tension started growing.
"Are you causing a problem over there, Rum-ya?" Law asked from where he was sitting by Bepo on the other side of the room. We all looked at him.
"Naw, they're just upset that I'm feeding the cook's ego!" I said with a smile.
This would be a perfect time to do the thing, I thought to myself, keeping eye contact with the the Captain of the Heart Pirates.
"F is for fires that burns down the whole town. U is for uranium bombs. N is for Noooo survivors!" I sang with a straight face and looking directly at Law. While also receiving weird looks from the crew. I got up and put my dirty dishes where they belonged, then started walking out of the galley as if nothing had just happened. I stopped at the entrance looked over my shoulder and ended with the words, "I feel tingly inside." and then walked out.
The look on Law's face, however brief, was hysterical! Totally worth doing it! I'm also really glad I'm used to weird looks at this point in my life, I thought with a sigh as I wandered the halls of the sub.
Shachi POV
Marshal started laughing about what just happened.
"What the fuck was that all about?" Leory asked.
"Yup, she is totally insane," I said
"That was similar to what she did, earlier wasn't?" Penguin asked, looking at me.
"Except this one was a bit morbid," I agreed.
"But still, what the hell was all that about?!" Vlad asked. "Clearly you two know something."
"Once Law found out she was still on the ship and told her to get off, she did something similar to what she just did after he left. Only it was not so morbid..." Penguin said.
"That was fucking funny!" Marshal pitched in after calming down and wiping tears from his eyes. "This is going to be interesting."
"How so, Mr. Marshal?" Law asked.
"Captain, something tells no matter what you try, she's dead set on joining this crew and will keep trying to join. And watching that unfold, it'll be interesting to see what she does next," Marshal replied.
"You seem quite certain of that," Law noted.
"She has spunk. Hell, she had enough guts to not only sneak back onto the ship, but also had the guts to cut you off mid-sentence. No one has ever done that before," Marshal said.
"She doesn't seem to respect the Captain," Robbie said from across the galley.
Law nodded once. "He does bring up a valid point, Mr. Marshal," he said.
"But that's the thing. It's a little hard to tell but I think she does respect you, Captain," Marshal said.
"You seem quite certain of that, too," Law intoned.
"Oh, I am. We spent quite a bit of time talking when both she and her sister were on the ship, with your consent, of course, before we hit the island after we picked them up," he replied. "Anyways, I'm going to go start on the dishes."
With that, Marshal walked back to the kitchen.
"That was interesting," I said looking at Penguin as the Captain walked out.
Law POV
I'll have to ask Marshal more about those conversations he and Rum had later, I thought as I walked out of the galley towards my office.
Rum POV
I ended up wandering back down to the engine room where I had been hiding for a good portion of the time I was there.
Saké POV
Somewhere in Water 7, there is library where sits a girl with long red hair and two peculiarly colored eyes reading from a stack of newspapers. Her name is, of course, Saké.
AN: Let me know if Law is to OOC! Please R&R, again sorry it to so long... Oh and Vlad is Vald..I made a typo in his name earlier...
