Chapter 2: Family

11th November 2013

Any paragraphs in between lines made of '-..-..-' are dreams that the character is having.

"What?! You want to go back?! There's no way in hell I'm letting you leave before your wound is fully healed! In fact I don't think it's a good idea for you to go back at all! What if Scepter 4 finds out?! I wouldn't put it past them to come barging into the bar demanding your head!"

It had been a few hours since Mikoto's little 'interrogation' session with Ayame had started. It started off smooth sailing, as she explained how she had healed him partially at Ashinaka High before awkwardly explaining how she had gotten him to her apartment with a combination of a taxi ride and a fair amount of dragging on Ayame's part.

"The Blue King is not that kind of person, and besides, my clan needs me," came Mikoto's calm, impassive reply.

"When hell freezes over!"

"My clan needs me," growled Mikoto, his tone now holding a hint if irritation. Obviously not to happy with Ayame's refusal to let him return to his clan. He would have already barged out of the building and back to his clan. But not before incinerating everything around him to the ground including the girl in front of him, regardless of the fact that she had saved his life if it wasn't for the fact that his powers have yet to return. Also, he was still weak from the previous night's events.

"I cannot believe we're having this discussion! You must be barking mad to want to go back after what happened!"

Snorting, Mikoto turned towards the window, looking at the full view if the city it provided before opening his mouth to speak again,"Do you know what it's like to have people depending on you? To want to do everything in your power to protect the ones that you love and cherish with everything you've got even if it means giving up your life in the process."

"N-no."

"Well, I do. HOMRA is my clan, they're my family, and I'll do everything in my power to make sure that no harm comes to them, even if it means burning everything and everyone in my path to do so."

A slight frown crossed Ayame's face at the mention of the word 'family', but she reset her features before Mikoto could notice the change. The Red King's simple statement had caused unpleasant memories to resurface which, she would have rather left forgotten.

Opening and closing her mouth a few times, Ayame stood there, contemplating on whether or not she should voice her opinion. Coming to a decision, Ayame took a deep breath before she started speaking again.

"Look, in my experience, family just fails you when you need them the most. So I'm not sure what kind of family you've got with your clan, but if you're willing to give up your life for them, then they must be one heck of a family. So I guess you can see them, but, on one condition, you can see them only after, your injury has completely healed. Deal?"

Mikoto's amber orbs bore into Ayame's lilac ones, obviously not too happy with the offer. But nonetheless, he grunted in agreement. Turning his head back towards the window. Taking it as a sign to leave, Ayame slid out of the room, taking the now empty lunch tray with her.

Drained from their talk, Ayame dumped the dirty dishes from lunch into the kitchen sink, deciding to leave the cleaning up for later. Dragging her feet over to her soft, cushion-covered couch, she flopping down onto it, causing a few of the cushions to fall to the ground with a soft almost inaudible thud. Akari softly padded over to the couch, joining his master.

Running her her slim fingers through Akari's soft, plush coat, Ayame slowly drifting of into a fitful sleep, plagued with the memories that the Red King had unintentionally caused to resurfaced earlier.

Two men in black suits held on tightly to a little girl who was kicking and screaming in their firm hold. With tear filled eyes, she wrestled against their hold, trying to break free. She didn't want to be taken away. She wanted to stay...with her parents.

"M-mummy. D-daddy. Please don't let them take me. Let me stay with you."

The couple in their thirties stared on, watching as their daughter was dragged from their house, not moving an inch to try and stop the two men from taking their daughter away.

Tears streamed her face as she was shoved into the black plate-less black car, watching in wide-eyed disbelief as her parents were paid a huge sum of cash in exchange for, her. She heard her father's faint voice, thanking the men, telling them how much of a pleasure it was doing business with them before stepping back into the house, closing the door behind him and her mother, both if them not even looking back, not even once.

They were supposed to be a happy family. Just the three of them. Together. Forever.

Bolting up right, Ayame set up right on her living room couch, startling Akari who was until recently laying peacefully beside his master while she slept.

Ayame's frantic lilac eyes scanned her surroundings, taking them in. Calming down once she realised that she was back in her apartment, safe. Shaking the lingering images from her dream, Ayame got up from the couch stretching her limbs before heading towards her bedroom to check on her guest. Putting her recent dream at the back of her mind, burying together with other past memories, forgetting about it. Just like she does, with the others.
