Chapter 5: Holiday Plans

16 February 2014

Ayame let out a frustrated sigh as she stood in her apartment kitchen, trying her best to concentrate on cutting the vegetables for dinner, without slicing her fingers off. But, a certain red head was making the simple task nearly impossible.

The Red King in all his mighty glory and annoying-ness sat on the living room couch, burning holes into the poor girl's back.

It had been three weeks since their little talk, and since then, Mikoto had been asking Ayame if he was ready to leave to return to his clan. It reminded her of a child who was on a road trip, repeating the same question, 'are we there yet,' to his parents every five seconds. It was utterly infuriating. And if it hadn't been for the fact that Mikoto's powers had yet to be restored to its former strength and intensity, Ayame's front door would have been burnt to the ground by now, and he would have been out of this 'prison', and back with the clan he loved and cared about oh so dearly. Not that he'd ever admit he cared about that rowdy bunch.

The staring continued for a good few minutes before Ayame reached the end of her tether, and slammed the knife down with a resounding 'bang', abusing the poor kitchen counter before whipping around to send Mikoto a glare. And if looks could kill, he would have been lying in a pool of his own blood at that very moment.

"Will. You. Stop. Doing. That." Ayame enunciated each world clearly, pausing for a short while after each word.

Mikoto flinched slightly when his amber eyes met with Ayame's deadly stare before quickly recomposing himself. To say the least, Mikoto was taken aback by the small girl's actions. It was the total opposite of what he expected. He'd expected her to be slightly annoyed at most, but not a full blown outward display of anger and violence (sort of). It just...didn't seem like her. For such a delicate girl to have such force behind such a simple action, it was jus unheard off. Well, to Mikoto at least. And it forgeting, in all his life, no one, no one had the courage or guts to challenge him, let alone face him when he was in one of his foul moods like the one a he was in a moment ago. Until he'd met this petite amethyst-eyed girl standing in front of him. It seemed that she was just full surprises, all of them compressed to fit into her small frame. And although Mikoto was not one for surprises, he some how found himself looking forward to the ones that would be thrown at him by this fiercely-spirited girl. And in all honesty, Mikoto was starting to enjoy her company.

Realising what she'd had done, Ayame's cheeks began to flush embarrassment, mumbling an apology to the red head, while turning her head away in a lousy attempt to hide her pink-tinged cheeks.

"Heh. You really do look cuter when you're blushing like that." Mikoto's teasing, gruff voice carried across the living room clearly, reaching Ayame's ears. His statement serving to make her cheeks turn a shade brighter as she returned to her previous task of slicing vegetables and preparing the day's lunch.

"You know, I was thinking maybe it would be a good idea to let you go back this Wednesday. I thought it would be nice if you returned to them on Christmas. That way, it would be sort off be their Christmas gift, and since you they're like your family, I thought maybe it would be great if you could spend Christmas with them after all, Christmas is supposed to be spent with your family and loved ones, right?" Mumbled Ayame.

A small smile crept it's way onto Mikoto's lips at the girls thoughtfulness. Honestly, Mikoto was starting to enjoy her company. Her sometimes shy manner and her oh annoying stubborn and determined personality was starting to grow on him.
