Author's Note: I suppose it's time for me to finish this story, and then I can work on a sequel for this story. Let me know what you think. I own nothing about this story, so enjoy!
Chapter 39:
Spike watched the black smoke slowly leave my body. Lilith was gone but I lay on the ground, still not waking, Buffy was slowly dying, Reyna had a sharp piece of glass in her heart, and died instantly, Cordelia was knocked out, and Xander was pretty bruised up. He was inching his way toward Buffy who was being held in Angel's arms. We had stopped the apocalypse from happening, but did we really win? Spike looked over at Willow who was crying over Reyna, why did she keep losing the people that she cared about? She was doing everything she could to hold it together, and not seek vengeance, and get tempted by evil again.
Spike dropped to his knees, and put his hand on my body to try to feel a pulse, he had to know if I was still alive, but there was no sign of life in me. He put his hand over his face to try to hide the pain he was feeling inside. He couldn't lose it, he wouldn't it. That's when he remembered my words from when he was inside my head. I had warned him that Buffy would die. He gasped looking to Buffy trying to fight death.
"Her blood" Spike whispered, still looking at my body.
"What?" Xander coughed, scowling at Spike. "What was that Evil Dead, what could you have to say?" He understood why Xander Harris hated him. It always seemed he got the girl, and he was always in the way, and to top it off he annoyed him to no end. After all of the loss him and his friends suffered through some how he always seemed to survive. To be honest he'd hate himself too.
Spike rushed over to Buffy ,and took her weak hand in his. She looked over at him, and tried to smile.
"Spike..." She whispered. "I...I'm sorry about Alexis... sh...she" He put a finger to her lips. Angel stroked her hair, and just watched this interaction.
"Shh, Love you don't have to say anything. You need to save your strength." He could feel her pulse getting weaker. He couldn't let my dying be in vain, he would keep Buffy alive if it was the last thing he ever did. "There is something I need to tell you" Angel seemed to not like that Spike had her attention, and she was holding on to every word he was saying.
"Spike, maybe you should leave" Angel said calmly, and Xander seemed to like that response, he smirked nodding waiting to see if he would actually leave for good this time.
"I'm not going any where, and Buffy isn't going to die! Bloody Hell if I have any say, Alexis isn't going to die in vain! Now you listen to me, she told me, when I was knocked un conscious that there is a way to save Buffy from dying." Everyone was looking at Spike with confusion, and both curiosity.
"You were just dreaming" Angel sighed.
"What now you want Buffy again, that Alexis is dead?" Xander spit out.
"I'm not saving her to be with her, I'm saving her because it was Alexis's last wish, and it's the right thing to do. I loved Alexis, and I love Buffy, but I am unworthy for either of them. I am saving Buffy for all of you." He spoke, speaking from his soul.
"You're unworthy for both of them cause they are both dead, or about to be" Xander snapped at Spike. "You are not worthy to be anything but dust from my stake!"
Buffy coughed, and looked to Spike, not listening to anyone else in the room.
"H...how?" she whispered, not taking her eyes off of him.
"Slayer blood" Xander chuckled.
"Buffy, Alexis told me you have to take her blood to save you" Buffy shook her head no.
"No...no Sp...spike I'm sss...sorry" She tried to lift her hand to caress Spike's face. Despite his feelings for me, she still cared about Spike, he was in her heart. Spike grabbed her hand in his, and tried to fight back his own tears.
"You're still the one Buffy. I've always believed in you, you're one hell of a woman, and the only thing in the world that I am sure of, and I lived a hundred years plus." Buffy smiled hearing his familiar words. "You're a bloody fighter, and I refuse to believe that you are going to just give up now, and die." He smirked, and squeezed her hand, bringing it to his lips and placing a kiss on the back of her hand. "So When I tell you that I love you, and you need to fight to stay alive I mean it. I am not saying it for me, in hopes that you and I will live happily ever after, because I am not. I love who you are, and I know you pet. You wanna live and see your friends and Dawn grow older. There is a happy ending out there some where for you, not just an ending. The only way to save you is to have the Slayer's blood; Alexis's blood save you."
Spike could feel she was getting limp in his hand, and Angel let out a low sigh, he bowed his head, he knew it was her choice, and he respected that. He didn't want her to die either. Both vampire's could smell how close to death she actually was.
"I...I'm...a fighter" She whispered, and her eyes closed shut, and she took her last breath.
"No! NO Buffy this isn't over yet, do you hear me?" Spike shouted at Buffy.
"She's gone Spike" Angel tried to stay calm, even though he was not. The only women he had ever loved died in his arms. Spike quickly made his way over to my body, and sunk his teeth into my neck to drain my blood in his mouth.
"SPIKE!" Xander called out to him to stop. "Stop it! Leave her body alone!" However Spike wasn't having it, he was going to save her. If he couldn't save me, damn it he will have Buffy. He then made his way to Buffy's life less body again, he pulled her away from Angel, and leaned down to her lips, about to kiss her, and let the blood flow into her mouth.
Buffy fluttered her eyes open, it was bright. She put her arm up in front of her face to shield her eyes from the brightness all around her. Where was she, she thought. She sat up to get her bearings. She was in a bright white room, but where was everyone ,and how did she get here?
"Hello?" She shouted, looking around for any one else. "Is anyone here... where is here?" She saw in the distance the figure of what looked like a woman... it was Alexis...me. "Alexis?"
"Hello Buffy" I was in an all white dress, much like the one Spike had seen me in earlier in his mind. Buffy came closer to me, and noticed that she was also in a white dress, and her clothes were no longer bloody.
"Where am I...Err where are we?" She gasped looking around. "I died didn't I?" I nodded, trying to smile to ease her pain.
"We both did Buffy, I'm sorry, I tried to get Spike to save you."
"He really did see you? We all thought he was crazy" I chuckled. "Wait, is this Heaven?" I shook my head.
"It's kind of like a waiting station... I think"
"At least were here together" Buffy sighed. "Wait how is it that I can see you here with me, no offense but there are so many other people I have lost I'd rather see in...uhh purgatory?"
"I guess you could call it purgatory. The truth is Buffy you can see me because you have had my blood." She made a disgusted face, and shook her head,
"Eww, I'm sorry but how, I told Spike I didn't want to..." She trailed off realizing that he must have tried to give it to her after she died. "That son of a bitch gave me your blood after I told him not to."
"Don't be too hard on Spike he just lost two, and if I'm not mistaken the only two women he's ever really fell in love with. I'm not sure he really loved Dru"
Buffy looked like she was having a hard time understanding everything.
"While I still have the chance to tell you, Buffy I am sorry for trying to hide my love for Spike and not letting the two of you have your chance, and I never meant to hurt Xander. I do care about him."She came closer to me, and pulled me in for a hug. I was surprised, but wrapped my arms around her.
"I don't blame you for anything." she said, and I actually felt a lot better. "You can't help who you fall for"
"So this is it huh? Dying, I thought it would be more dramatic, or actually I didn't think anything would happen, rather things would just get dark and that was it, but here we are..." Even in death I was still rambling. Buffy just stared behind me.
"Alexis..."I turned around to see what she was looking at, and I put my hand over my mouth. "What is that?" she said. It was coming closer.
It was what looked like a portal in a bright light. We could see on the other side of it. It looked like Spike, Angel, and Xander, Giles ,and even Willow surrounding the portal hole. They were gathered around each other, sadness and tears in their eyes.
"It can't be..." I said staring into it.
"Yea, I think it is, Alexis I think your blood did work, and I am meant to go through there... or choose not to and let myself die."
"What! Buffy you have to, please give your self the chance to live again." she shook her head, and smiled at me.
"What are you doing?" I looked at our hands.
"I'm not going back with out you!" Smiled looking back through the portal. Was that possible.
"Will that work?" She shrugged.
"Let's find out. The hardest thing in the world is to live, so lets live Alexis!" We both turned to each other smiling. We were linked hand in hand and running toward the portal. This was it.
Everyone sat in the living room of the house, with two body's in coffins. They all decided to say a proper goodbye, and a funeral seemed like a good idea. Buffy was in the first cedar wood coffin, dressed in a red satin dress, and her hair and make up done. I was in the second identical coffin in the same dress that I wore on my first date with Xander. Everyone of our friends took their turn coming up to the coffins to say their goodbyes.
Giles came up first, tears forming in his eyes, but he tried to stay British, and not show any emotion, but Buffy was like a daughter to him, and I was starting to grow on him like family.
Angel stayed very close to Buffy's body, as if he was guarding it.
Mike was next to come up. He stood in front of me, and held my hand in his.
"I have always loved you Alexis, even if your heart belonged to another. I will always remember coming to your shows to hear you sing." He squeezed my hand, reached into his pocket and pulled out one of my guitar picks and placed it in the coffin with me, and found it difficult to look away.
Cordelia came up with Willow who was barely holding herself together. They both had tears streaming down their faces.
Spike sat in the corner, not saying a word to any one, he just kept to himself lighting up cigarette after cigarette, and hating himself for not finding a way to save us.
Xander gave Spike the most annoyed look he could give, and made his way up to the coffins. He walked up to me, and held my hand.
"I'm sorry Alexis. I wish I could have saved you, and maybe I came on too strong. I wanted to be with you, but I never asked you if you wanted to be with me." He leaned down and kissed my forehead. Then he walked over to Buffy, and nervously rubbed his face. "OH Geez Buff, here we are again. This is the third time you died, and it still doesn't feel real. I'm not ready for this.." He breathed in, trying to keep his cool. He reached for her hand, and he could have sworn he felt it move. He just chalked it up to being tired. "I love you Buffy, and I always will. Don't worry about Dawn, I called her." A single tear fell from Xander's cheek, and just then Buffy blinked her eyes open.
"I love you too Xander" He paused, almost afraid of what he had just heard. It couldn't be... could it? He slowly turned to see her eyes open and staring back at him with a smile.
"Buffy?" He asked cautiously.
"Who else would it be?" He was so started he let out a loud scream, and jumped back alerting everyone in the room.
"It's Buffy!" Soon Angel, Giles, and Willow were standing around Buffy to see what the commotion was about.
"Oh dear lord... she's alive" Giles stood there with his mouth open.
"OH my God Buffy" Willow cried "You're not dead...again" She pulled her best friend into a tight embrace, as she tried to sit up.
Spike had to see for himself, he slowly got up and walked over toward everyone, pushing himself to the front.
"Buffy..." He sighed.
"It's really me everyone, it's not like it's the first time I died." She tried to joke, but She got punched in the arm by Xander.
Spike just smiled. "Thank you" She looked at Spike. "You never gave up on me, and if it wasn't for you giving me Alexis's blood..." She paused and looked over at my body. Her smile started to fade a bit. She quickly jumped out of the coffin.
"Hold on love take it easy" Spike tried to guide Buffy to relax and take it easy, she just came back from the dead after all.
She stood over my body.
"What happened, did she come back?"
"Buffy... Alexis died when Spike hit Lilith with the potion." Giles tried to explain calmly to her, but she just shook her head.
"No... I saw her, and she explained everything to me!" She tried to protest explaining to everyone what she witnessed. "We were there together... We saw the portal leading back here, and we came through it together, she should be here with me..." She was getting hysterical.
"Her blood was only meant to save you love" Spike put a hand to her shoulder trying to reason with her.
"No... she should be here!"
"Come Buffy, you're obviously in shock" Giles guided her away. Everyone went with Buffy into the other room, very glad she was back...again, but worried about her just the same.
Meanwhile Spike stayed back, standing in front of my body. He held out hope that Buffy was right, and I could come back too.
"Come on Lexie... come back to me." he whispered staring down at my body. After about several minutes of just watching an unmoving lifeless body, he huffed and walked away.
I gasped for my breath, as I came back to life. Spike froze in place, not sure if he had heard me.
"Spike?" I whispered, feeling my dry throat from being dead.
"Lexie?" He rushed over to me seeing it was true I came back. I sat up, and threw my arms around him.
"It worked... I was able to come back too. She said it would work" He knew I was talking about Buffy.
"Everyone!" Spike shouted "She's back... Alexis is alive!" He wasn't going to take his eyes off of me.
Soon everyone came piling into the room. They were all grateful and relieved to see me. I met eyes with Buffy and we both smiled, we brought each other back and connected on some level that I don't even think I understood yet.
A few days later...
I stood in the door way with my packed bags, I was headed home.
"Can't we convince you to stay here?" Willow asked me hopping I'd reconsider.
"You know you always have a home here if you need it" Buffy smiled at me, and smiled in return.
"I appreciate the offer, but there is already a slayer here. Besides I want to continue my training back east." Mike sighed and stood next to me.
"Well then you'll need back up. I have been with you from the beginning, and I'm not going any where. Just call me Robin, casue I'm your sidekick." I laughed, and shrugged, motioning toward the R.V. That was still parked out front.
"Might as well, I don't think I could do it on my own." Mike put his arm around me.
"Well, I suppose you never had a proper teacher, your watcher died, so if you'd like I could be yours?" I giggled.
"Oh Giles are you saying you want to come with me?" He removed his glasses and started to clean them.
"If you'll have me? Buffy is far past to point of needed me, and I feel I could teach you a lot." I grinned and ran over to hug Giles.
"I'd love to have you as my watcher Giles!" He returned my hug. I took one last look around before saying my goodbyes again. I couldn't see Spike any where.
"Um.. I'll be right back" I said as I made my way through the house. I figured he's be in the basement, so I made my way down the creaking steps to see him sitting on the cot, smoking a cigarette.
"There you are!" I smiled making my way over to sit next to him. He wouldn't look at me. "Spike?"
"So I guess you're going back to New York to continue your life that you had before I came out of that stupid amulet." I raised an eyebrow at him.
"Actually I am headed in across the country in a big R.V. With Mike, and Giles to continue my slayer training." He slowly looked into my eyes.
"You're not running from who you are anymore?" I shook my head.
"I'm not running." He threw the burnt out cigarette butt on the ground.
"Well good..."
"Spike..." I put my hand on his cheek. "I want you to come with me." I took a deep breath, trying not to be afraid of my own words, or feelings. "Ya know like with me with me... uh I couldn't see myself doing any of this with out you." I felt my heart beating so fast, he wouldn't turn me down after everything would he? "I..." I started to say more, but I was cut off by Spike closing the gap between us and sweetly kissing my lips. "So is that a yes?" I smiled still lingering.
"What do you think love?"
"I think you should kiss me again" Just like that our lips met again, this time a little more aggressive and hungry for each other.
When Spike and I came up from the basement, hand in hand all eyes were on us. Giles had finished packing and was making his way on The R.V. With Mike. I looked to Buffy one last time, and we both smiled. I finally understood my purpose. I was a slayer, and I had a duty to protect the world from all things evil. I wasn't running or hiding from who I was. I am Alexis the Vampire slayer.
I grabbed my things and made my way on the R.V.
Giles was In the front ready to drive the vehicle, with Mike seated next to him.
As I walked into the back of the vehicle I saw Spike sitting at the table, so I sat next to him.
"Penny for your thoughts?" I asked him, and he looked up at my chuckling.
"Look at you, eager to get back in my mind." I laughed. "Are you really ready to do this?" I nodded.
"I am" I responded. I raised an eyebrow at him just looking me over.
"Alright out with it Lexie tell me whats on that mind of yours." I smirked back at him.
"I wish you would come back to the bed with me to find out"
The End
Authors Note: I am thinking about doing a sequel with Alexis adapting to her slayer responsibilities, while Giles teaches her the ropes. There will be more fire between Spike and Alexis, but also a twist...There is a way for Spike to become human and be with Alexis for the rest of her life... or will Angel take that opportunity to be with Buffy? Stayed tuned to find out. Let me know what you think about a sequel?
