In the morning after the wedding, Kara stood in the middle of hers and Lee's room finishing dressing as he talked to the Old Man on the phone. She stared at the ring she wore on her finger, which still felt foreign to her body. Today would probably be the day when everybody would find out that Kara Thrace was now a married woman – she could foresee the juicy gossip that this news would bring.

Lee entered the room after he finished the call to his father. "Dad asked us for lunch," he announced nervously.

"How did he react to the news?" Kara inquired, fixing her hair in a ponytail.

"Well…" he mumbled.

She immediately recognized the meaning of that hesitation. "You didn't tell him, did you?" Kara asked annoyed. "Lee!"

"Come on, I just can't use a phone to tell my father that we got married," he replied. His relationship with his father had been stranded for way too long and he wasn't about to risk the progress they had done for the last months… "I told him we had news and we'd tell him during lunch."

"Fine," she said. "But don't even think of 'forgetting' to mention it in lunch, you hear me?"

"Yes ma'am," Lee agreed, mockingly saluting her. "Anything else?"

Kara pretended to think for a while. "Actually…" she murmured, pointing to her own lips.

He didn't need her to say it twice. Lee took a couple of steps in her direction and crashed his lips on hers, kissing her passionately. Before that turned into a full making out session, he pulled back. "Let's go. We have work to do."

"You're no fun…" she said, slapping his arm jokingly and exited the room followed by him. "I need a favor, by the way."

"What kind of favor?" Lee inquired, raising an eyebrow.

"I need access to the files of everyone who lived in the Thera Sita before moving to New Caprica," she explained, turning to him. His face showed her that he had got her purpose.

"Please don't tell me this is about that kid," Lee told her.

She knew he wouldn't be happy about that… "I have a feeling about her, Lee," she declared. "And, believe me, it's worth checking. I mean, if there's nothing wrong with the kid, it's not like it will bother her or her mother. So, please, I need your authorization as a commander to have access to those files."

He sighed. Lee knew that he should deny the authorization so she would forget it before that turned into some kind of obsession. But part of him wondered if she was right about the little girl… He just wanted that matter resolved. "Fine, you can do it," he gave up. "Have someone getting the files. I'll sign an authorization."

She smiled at Lee and kissed. "You're so my favorite husband," Kara told him when they broke apart.

"Like you don't say that to all your husbands," he replied with a mock-frown.

"Relax, Lee. I only mean it with you," she assured him with a kiss.

--

The hours passed and, sooner than Kara could register, Lee was in her office telling her it was time to go.

"Already?" she asked surprised. She had been taking a look on the files that had been brought from Thera Sita a couple of hours earlier. Bearing in mind the number of women named Maya in that ship, unless she asked someone about the woman, Kara still had plenty of work to do…

"Yep, Racetrack is waiting to give us a ride," Lee told her. "Hurry up, we have to get to Galactica before Dad finds out we got married by himself…"

Yep, that would be a pickle, she admitted to herself. She got up from her seat and joined him by the door, where he had been waiting. "Off we go," Kara said.

It took them a couple of minutes to reach the hangar bay, where Racetrack stood talking to another pilot from Pegasus as she waited. When she saw the couple arriving, she quickly said goodbye to the other pilot.

"Commander, Captain, I heard congratulations are in order," Racetrack said with a smile.

Both Lee and Kara froze. She knew they had gotten married, which meant the news were most likely already spreading in Galactica and it was a matter of time before the Old Man found out…

"How do you know?" Lee inquired.

"I went to the surface of New Caprica and your priestess asked me to bring a marriage certificate to you two. I have it inside the raptor," she explained.

"So, nobody else knows?" Kara asked exasperatedly.

"Well, Hotdog heard too and he had gone back to Galactica…" Racetrack informed them, entering the ship followed by the other two. "You know he gossips like an old woman…"

"Frak," Kara murmured. "If the Admiral finds first, he will never speak to us again." We're so screwed, Kara thought. She would hate to have the Admiral upset with her and his son for hearing about their marriage by someone else… By the way things seemed to be working, it would happen.

"Get us to Galactica fast, 'Track," Kara told the pilot, preyed the news were still unknown to her new father-in-law.

When she sat in the passenger seat, she felt Lee's hand reaching for hers. "Relax, he knew that we were going to break some news to him at lunch. If he finds out first, at least he knows that we meant to tell him," Lee told her in a low voice.

Kara turned to him. "It will suck anyway, Lee. Because he's not even gonna care about the fact that we got married, all he's gonna care about is the fact that we didn't tell him ourselves."

He had to recognize that she had a point. His father would be hurt if he found out by someone else. "I should have told him by the phone," Lee admitted.

She put her head against his shoulder. "Nah, that would suck too," she murmured in a muffled voice.

--

It took them only fifteen minutes to reach Galactica. In the second they stepped foot in the Hangar Bay, they could hear people whispering all over. There was no need to give a lot of thought to what they were talking about – their marriage, for sure. When Kara saw Hotdog talking to another pilot, she felt like smashing his face against a viper… no, she wouldn't ruin an innocent bird with Constanza's hard head. A wall would have to do.

As if reading her mind, Lee grabbed her arm. "No time, Kara. You can kill him later."

He was right. Seconds later, they were running against time to find the Old Man, even though both of them were 99 sure that he already knew. The hatch that led to the Admiral's office appeared in their view moments later and knocked in there.

"Come in," they heard him saying. Lee unlocked the metal door and took a deep breath before stepping in. Kara followed him.

Bill Adama seemed to be extremely caught up working on his model ship. He sat by the desk with his glasses on, gluing tiny pieces with a gigantic precision.

"Dad?" Lee asked nervously.

The Admiral looked up to his son and (still unaware of that fact) daughter-in law. "Lee, Kara, is it lunch time yet?" he asked, glancing at the clock in the wall. "I guess it is. I lost track of time… The food must be arriving soon."

Kara breathed in relief. He didn't know. Bless that 1 chance. By the looks of it, the man didn't even leave the office that morning… He didn't know… Thank Gods, she thought.

The older Adama got up from his desk, taking off his glasses. "How are you two doing? You mentioned that you had news…" he said, approaching them.

"We do," Kara confirmed.

"Yesterday we went to New Caprica, Dad," Lee informed his father, unsure of how to break the news. "Well…er…we, hum…"

"We got married," Kara just blurted. Lee looked at his with a mixture of shock and gratitude splattered all over his face.

The Admiral watched them with a dubious look. "You got married. Just like that?"

"Yeah," Lee confirmed, craving to see his father's reaction. "Sorry you couldn't be there."

The Old Man shook his head in disbelief. "You two are unbelievable…"

"It was my fault, sir," Kara declared, afraid he would blame Lee for the rush. "I was the one who suggested it."

Lee raised an eyebrow at her statement. "So? I went along and said yes… There is no fault in a wedding. I mean, it's a wedding, not a crime."

The Admiral sighed. He wished he had been able to see them getting married – it would have been one of the highlights of his life –, however, deep inside, he knew that that was the only way they would manage to tie the knot: quick and spontaneously. "Congratulations on the wedding, then."

"Wait, you're not mad you weren't there?" she inquired surprised. She expected a lecture in the lectures of 'I've never been this disappointed in my life…'.

"You know that I hate protocol and ceremonies. These uncomfortable clothes and having to make small talk with everyone…" he told her. The last thing he wanted right now was to ruin their day, so focusing on the bright side of everything would be the right choice. "My son just got married to a fine woman who I consider to be a daughter. That's all that matters and I'm happy for you both."

Fine woman… Kara wouldn't describe herself as one but, well, it was nice to hear it from time to time. "Thank you, sir."

"Don't call me 'sir', Kara. I'm your father-in-law, call be Bill or Dad," the Admiral corrected her. Kara was now officially part of the family.

Dad. That was a word she didn't use for a long time. To tell the truth, maybe since her father's death Bill Adama had been the closest thing she had had to one. "It may take a while to get used to…" she told him.

"I trust you'll catch on, eventually," Adama assured her.

Their lunch went on with no incidents. Lee described their visit to the surface of New Caprica to his father; they talked about Pegasus and shared strategies to keep the ship running.

"So, Roslin mention you two have been talking every two days…" Lee pointed out curiously after they were done eating.

Adama raised an eyebrow. "We have. Is there any problem with that?" he questioned, already taking a defensive tone.

"No problem," his son assured him. "I'm just curious. Are you two…"

"…good friends?" Adama interrupted. "Sure. Nothing more," he stated, emphasizing the nothing part.

Lee nodded even though he didn't believe a word of it. If his father and the president were not together now, they wouldn't take long to do it, he believed. Part of him was anxious for that. Maybe it would improve the Old Man's constant mood.

"Now, about Roslin, do you know her friend Maya?" Kara questioned, trying to sound casual. She couldn't have the Admiral mentioning to Roslin that she had been making questions about that particular friend.

"I met her once in founder's day," Adama stated. "Why do you want to know?"

Think of something, she told herself. "It's just that the Chief told me that an older woman named Maya had in her possession a large stock of cigars and I wanted to buy some to give Karl in his birthday," she lied. "I wondered if she might be Roslin's friend…" Kara was impressed with herself. It was a pretty good lie, considering she had made it up just now.

"I doubt it," the Old Man stated. "Maya doesn't seem the smoking or smuggling type. Plus, she is in her middle twenties, so I don't think the chief would consider her old."

Lee coughed. "Seems like we'll have to think of something else to give Helo," he stated, playing along with Kara in the lie. Knowing Maya's age would help finding out which woman named Maya should be investigated. "Well, I think it is time for me and Kara to go. I'm sure we're needed in Pegasus."

Adama got up from the table and walked with them to the cabin's door. "Congratulations again," he told them. He turned to his son. "Don't commit the same mistakes I made with your mother," he warned his son. "You don't want to lose Kara like I lost her."

"I won't," Lee promised. He had already sworn to himself that would never put work in front of his family. Still, he was aware that his mother had made her share of mistakes in what came to marriage to his father…

It was only hours later that, for her dismay, Kara remembered that she had forgotten to kill Hotdog for having a big mouth. Next time, she promised herself.
