Kara sat on one of the beds in the sickbay with Lee by her side. Talbot had gone to the lab in order to run her a blood work, so he could check if she was indeed pregnant.
She kept thinking of how she couldn't have a kid because she'd end up screwing him or her badly. But then she would remember it was Lee's and the image of that blue eyed child who shared her hair color filled her mind… She wanted to meet that child.
"Hey," Lee said, shaking her awake from her thoughts. "Stop freaking out in silence."
"I'm not freaking out," she told him, distractedly playing with a strand of her blond hair – it was getting kind of long… "I'm just thinking… You know what? Let's talk about something else. Distract me."
Lee raised an eyebrow. How could she ask him for a distraction? All he could think about was the possibility of becoming a father. Improvise, he told himself. But nothing would come. "I can't, sorry. The anticipation…"
"Yeah," she agreed. She felt that way too. But entertainment turned to be unnecessary as Talbot showed up with the results. "So?" Kara asked nervously.
"Congratulations, you are having a baby," the doctor announced, dragging an ultrasound machine behind him.
Kara took deep breaths as her heartbeat raced. Things were bond to change now and she wasn't sure how she'd react to that change… But Lee, as always, just put his arm around her in order to comfort her, to let her know it would be okay. He would always be there, she was sure of it.
"This is a good thing," he murmured to her ear. He was scared and also ecstatic at the same time. The idea of having a human being completely depending on him was overwhelming but, at the same time, he couldn't wait for it. Sometimes Lee would wonder what it would be like to have a kid of his own.
"Now, if you could lie down…" Talbot told her. "I need to make an ultrasound."
She obeyed and leaned on the bed, lifting her tanks. The doctor was connecting the ultrasound machine to a power plug.
"When was the first day of your last period?" he inquired when he got up.
"Six weeks ago, I think," she answered.
"Hum, you're around six weeks along them," he mumbled.
"But how didn't you notice that you were late before?" Lee asked, confused.
"I was busy," she told him. With the pneumonia and the wedding, she had basically lost track of everything else. Kara turned to the doctor. "But how the hell did I get pregnant?"
Talbot raised an eyebrow. "I assume you know the mechanics of the process…"
She felt like punching the man but decided against it. "I mean, how did I get pregnant if I'm on birth control?" she corrected herself.
"Well, the shots are not 100% effective," he said. "And you were on antibiotics…"
"What does that have to do with anything?" Lee inquired. Antibiotics, pregnancy… He was not an expert but he just couldn't see any relation between the two,
"Antibiotics can interfere with the efficacy of birth control. I've seen that happen a few times," he explained.
Kara's eyes narrowed. Oh, if only she had a gun to shoot him! "And you didn't tell you that before?!" she practically shouted. Stupid doctor!
"It was written in the label on the pill's container. It's not my fault you didn't read it," he replied looking somewhat offended. "Now, stay still. I need to do the ultrasound." He put some kind of cold gel on her stomach and turned the machine on.
Looking at the monitor, neither Lee nor Kara could tell anything apart. It was just a mass of black and grey blurs. Then, a sound echoed in the room. "We have a heartbeat," the doctor announced.
That made things a whole more real. Kara listened to the sound like it was the most beautiful music she had ever heard. She was carrying a live human being. Looking at Lee, she saw his face was completely awe struck, hearing their child's heart beating.
"And there is your baby," Talbot indicated a clearer spot in the monitor.
Lee narrowed his eyes. As much as he hated to admit it, that didn't look even close to a baby. "Well, he looks… nice," he said in confusion. What else could he say? Kara seemed as confused as he was.
"He or she is about half an inch long. It is not supposed to look like anything at all." Talbot said with a laugh. He turned the machine off and gave Kara a towel so she could clean the gel.
She looked at Lee. "I guess we won't have a private gym after all. We'll need the extra room to set a nursery…" she tried to joke. It was either that or a panic attack.
He shook his head with a laugh and kissed her forehead.

Bill Adama stood in Galactica's CIC looking at the monitors. He still couldn't believe that Laura – his Laura – had done such a horrible thing like stealing a child. It was simply revolting.
"Admiral, call for you," a female communications officer named Marla Lynch announced.
"Who is it?" Adama inquired.
"The former president, sir," the officer replied.
He stiffened. "Tell her that I am not available." Laura had been calling him since the moment he returned to Galactica. Adama didn't understand why, so he simply didn't answer. He thought he had left things very clear when they talked in New Caprica…
"Sir, she says that she will keep calling until you answer, so you might as well save time," Lynch informed him.
The Admiral cursed under his breath and reached for the phone's handset. "What?" he asked, dismissing any kind of good manners.
"Don't hung up, please," Roslin begged. "Just hear me out, Bill."
"Why, Laura? You obviously don't regret what you did," Adama stated.
"I needed to protect Hera. She was not safe with Sharon or any human for that matter!" she insisted.
Adama couldn't believe she was still insisting on this… "Laura, I am only going to say this once. Before today, I respected you, I craved for the moments we spent talking on the phone – they made my day," he confessed. "But after finding out what you did, and seeing that you obviously don't regret it, I can't bear to even listen to your voice. So, please, Laura. Stop. Calling." The Admiral put the phone down without saying one more word.
He knew what it felt like to believe his child to be dead. What Laura had made Sharon and Helo go through was simply… inhuman. But still, the Old Man couldn't hate her. Nevertheless, he could push her away by letting her believe he did despise her. She needed to know that her actions had consequences and part of him wished she would realize that soon, so they could be friends again. It was just too painful to be away…

Inside Pegasus's commander's cabin there was silence. Starbuck lounged on the sofa resting her feet on Apollo's lap. His touch was enough to calm her down. He hadn't left her side for a single minute since her pregnancy was revealed, an hour ago.
"Do you wanna talk about this?" he asked her, breaking that hour-long silence.
She sighed, not bothering to look at her husband. Talk about what? She was still half expecting Talbot to call them saying 'I was just kidding. There's no kid'.
"Kara, don't think that I'm not nervous too," Lee told his wife. "Having a kid is a big deal. A whole lot of responsibility that maybe we're not ready for. It's okay to be scared but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to make things work…"
Kara finally turned to him. He was staring right at her eyes, blue meeting hazel. "What if I end up screwing up this kid?" she simply asked. That was her biggest worry, mimicking her mother's mistakes…
He shook his head. "Don't say that. You won't let that happen. I won't let that happen," Lee promised. Then, he had an idea that could reassure her. "Look, you said that the odds of you getting pregnant were minimal. Maybe it was meant to happen, like a gift from the gods. They wouldn't let you screw up their gift…"
She glared at him and removed her legs from his lap, sitting up. He had played the faith card… that was low. "Don't give me crap, Lee. You don't even believe in the gods."
"I believe that some higher power exists," he corrected her. "I don't know if it is the gods or whatever. But what's important is that you believe, so you'll get my point." Kara didn't look at him, so he touched her face and lifted her chin in order to get their eyes to meet. "I am happy about this and I believe we can be good parents if we try. I know that you are confused so let me tell you something."
"What?" she asked. The effect of his words on her was simply incredible. For a moment, she could believe they would actually be able to do things the right way. She simply craved for his answer.
"Did you notice how your biggest concern about being pregnant is not being a good mother? Not once did I hear you saying 'Frak, I won't be able to fly a viper' or 'Oh gods, I can't drink for eight months'. All you care about is our baby. That in my book already makes you a good mother," he explained, seeing the way her expression shifted to shock.
And he was right. Again. Sometimes, Lee showed signs of being as screwed up as she was but he would always have these moments when he turned out to be the wisest half of the pair. Kara had been so caught up worrying that she hadn't even noticed that all she could think about was her unborn child's welfare. Something told her that it was more than Socrata Thrace had ever done. So, she cried, leading to one highly un-Strabuck-like moment. She thanked the gods her husband was the only one there.
Lee, seeing the tears starting to flow freely, enveloped her in a tight hug. "Hey," he murmured. "I didn't mean to make you cry."
"Hormones," she murmured on a small voice. "I can't feel happy without them attacking…" That was her new excuse now; it was way too early for the hormone to cause that.
"So, you're happy?" he asked.
"Yeah," she responded, knowing that it would take some time for her to get used to the idea of being a mother in a near future. It was so weird knowing that she was carrying another life inside of her – a little person who measured half an inch and had a heartbeat. A little person completely made by Lee and herself. It was like a bittersweet taste – fear mixed with happiness.
Lee pulled away from the hug and got up from the sofa, reaching for the phone.
"What are you doing?" she asked with an eyebrow raised.
"I'm going to warn Hoshi that I won't be showing up in the CIC for the rest of the day…" he explained, "and revoking your flight status until further notice."
It was only then when Kara registered his previews words – she wouldn't be able to fly a viper for months. "Damn it," she said, making him laugh.
Surprisingly, it didn't bother her as much as she had predicted. They were in times of peace, so she wouldn't be missing big battles… or at least that was what she thought.
