Lee and Kara stood in front of the Admiral's hatch with Jamie after knocking on it. For what they had seen in the way there, seemed like Galactica was back in shape: the damages from the battle were fixed, Chief Tyrol was, once again, ruling the Hangar Bay and Tigh had gotten the position of XO again (much to Captain Kelly's relief…).

The hatch opened and, instead of the Old Man, it was Roslin the one in there. That was enough to make Lee shiver… Was she living in his father's cabin?

"Captain, Major, how good to see you," she greeted them. "Bill was called to the CIC. Seems like there was a problem with one of the civilian ships, so I guess you're stuck with me for now." She moved to let them step into the room.

"Did he leave a long time ago?" Kara asked, entering the room, followed by Lee, who placed his daughter's carrier on the sofa.

"It's been about an hour since," Roslin informed her, moving closer to the sofa.

"Do you know what happened to the ship?" Lee asked in order to occupy his mind with something other than Roslin and his father.

"I'm not sure; Bill said something about depressurization…"

"Frak, that can be bad," Kara mumbled, removing her daughter from the carrier and holding her closer to his chest. The little girl, as always, fit perfectly against her mother, like Kara's body had been specifically made to cradle a child. So much for the insubordinate viper jock…

Roslin smiled, seeing the closure between mother and daughter. "So, that's the famous Jamie…" she approached Kara a bit to get a better look of the baby. "Bill kept talking about her and telling me how his granddaughter looked like a little angel; seems like he is right."

"Nobody can say he's not a proud grandfather," Kara pointed out, kissing her baby's forehead. She was damn proud herself…

"He surely is," Roslin said, touching the girl's little hand. Sometimes she wished she had had a child of her own. Unfortunately, she kept delaying that plan until it was just not possible anymore…

There was another knock on the hatch and Kara wondered who it might be. The Old Man sure didn't need to knock to enter his own cabin… "Go open the door, Lee," she told her husband after noticing that he had been staring at Roslin that whole time. Surely wallowing about the possibility of her becoming his stepmother, there was no need for a crystal ball in order to know that.

He shook his head like he had just been woken up from a deep sleep and got up to open the door. And there stood Ellen Tigh…

"Lee! It's been so long!" the woman said, giving him a bone crushing hug.

Kara couldn't help noticing that Ellen's hands were descending a little too low… specifically to her husband's backside. Frak, if she wasn't holding the baby… Lee jumped away from the XO's wife felling her hands where they weren't supposed to be and looked at his wife with wide eyes, clearly asking for help.

"Why don't you go put the baby to sleep?" she suggested in a fake-sweet voice. Gods knew she just wanted to kick Ellen's ass all the way back to the colonies…

He gladly approached her, taking their daughter and quickly retreating to his father's room.

"What is she doing here?" Kara asked Roslin under her breath, as the other woman hanged her coat by the main hatch.

"See, Bill wanted to invite Colonel Tigh…" Roslin told her.

"…and where Tigh goes, Ellen goes." The former president nodded. "This is just perfect," Kara said sarcastically as Mrs. Tigh approached them.

"Kara, how's life as the wife of Pegasus' commander?" she asked. "It wasn't very nice of you to leave your other ball player like that. He was so… desirable."

Starbuck abstained herself from responding to her last statement by picturing herself choking Ellen to death. It would definitely make her day…

"Why don't we take a seat by the table?" Roslin suggested in order to avoid a row.

They did as the older woman said but, after her husband joined them again, Starbuck quickly reached a conclusion: Ellen was insane. She glared at the other blonde from the opposite side of the Old Man's dinner table as the woman shamelessly "attacked" Lee with her foot under the table. He gave his wife a look that clearly said 'Help me'.

Unable to take it anymore, Kara kicked Ellen. Hard. That's gonna leave a mark, she thought, satisfied by seeing the woman's face contract in pain. "If that foot of yours gets any closer to my husband, I sweat to gods I'm gonna stab you with a fork, Mrs. Tigh," she threatened in a low and seemingly calm tone.

"I'm just kidding," Ellen told her, trying to sound surprised by her reaction.

"I'm not," she whispered back, clearly seeing the other woman shrug. She turned to Lee, who mouthed 'thank you' to her. Kara gave him a smile in return.

Minutes later, they heard the hatch open and close, followed by Adama and Tigh entering the room. "Sorry for the lateness," the Old Man said, occupying his seat.

"What happened to the ship?" Lee inquired.

"Pressure systems were broken," Tigh explained as he sat next to his wife. "They are being fixed as we speek."

"It was pretty critical for a while, though," Adama added. "I hope you didn't have problems waiting."

Kara narrowed her eyes at Ellen. "Nothing we couldn't fix with a fork…" she declared, making Lee choke back a laugh.

"She means nothing at all," Ellen said with a nervous laugh.

"Enough talking. I'm sure everyone is hungry," Roslin declared in her usual diplomatic tone.

During the whole dinner, Lee watched closely the interaction between his father and Laura Roslin, who sat in opposite tops of the table, trying to figure out what the big announcement was. He couldn't see clear signs of a romantic relationship, but considering he was talking about his father, he didn't expect any public displays of affection if there actually was a romance between him and the former president.

"Is that Jamie?" Kara asked, after they had finished the meal, pretending to hear her daughter complaining in the other room. "We'd better check." Then, she got up and pulled Lee with her to the Old Man's room, where the baby was sleeping.

"What the hell, Kara? We both know she sleeps like the dead at this time of the day," Lee whispered furiously to his wife.

"Will you stop it?!" she told him.

"Stop what?" he asked in confusion.

"Stop waiting for your father to jump on Roslin!" she said in a low voice.

"What?!" He pretended not to know what she was talking about. "I was not doing that!"

She gave him a skeptical look. "You live with me for months and you still think I don't know when you're lying, Lee Adama? You were so doing that. I'm surprised your father didn't notice it."

Okay, she knew him batter than he thought. He had to give her that. "Okay, so what if I was? Don't you find it weird? He and Roslin?" Roslin as his step mother…

"You're weird," Kara told him. She was pretty sure it was exactly what everybody had thought about them 'Don't you find it weird? Starbuck and Apollo?' "They are grown single people. If they are together, just grin and bear it. He's the Old Man; he knows what he's doing. You're so acting like a kid." Kara checked on Jamie, who was sleeping calmly, not noticing her parents at all.

"But…"

"Oh, shut up." She left the room and he followed her. Kara was surely not taking any crap that day…

They occupied their seats and when Lee was about to resume the staring he felt a kick on his leg and his wife pretended to cough. He looked at her and received a glared in return. Fine, maybe she was right and he was kind of acting like a kid. When exactly did Kara become the thoughtful one? He asked himself.

"About that announcement," the older Adama said. "I have contacted the members of the Quorum, who agreed, by unanimous choice, that as nobody wants to run against Laura, she will return to her functions as the president soon."

Lee sighed in relief. One less worry to his book… "That's great. Congratulations. Really happy for you," he rambled.

"Guess you'll become part of Colonial One's furniture again," Kara joked.

"Well, I have to thank Bill's persuasion," Roslin said. "I was inclined to refuse…"

The world persuasion made Lee shiver. Surely not the kind of persuasion he commonly used on Kara… right? He shook his head, in order to send the bad thoughts away.

"Why don't we make a toast?" Ellen suggested. "I can't believe I am going to be friends with the president."

"Neither can I",Roslin groaned to herself.

---

Hours later, only Lee, Kara and little Jamie were keeping company to the Old Man in his quarters (Confirming, to Lee's relief, that Roslin was NOT living with his father). The baby was wide awake in her grandfather's arms, playing with his dogtags.

"So, about that new nugget class I have to teach…" Kara started. "Is it really necessary? Can't Racetrack take half a dozen more nuggets in her class?"

"Look, Kara, I sent them for you to a reason," he told his daughter in law.

"Yeah, because they were the last ones to sign in," Lee said, looking up from the news bulletin he had been reading. "I told her."

"Not exactly…" the Old Man said, putting his granddaughter back in her carrier. Jamie gave him a tiny frown, not pleased to be 'discarded', so he took off his dogtags and gave them to her, knowing pretty well they wouldn't fit in her mouth, so there was no danger of her swallowing them. "I may have not exactly said the truth…"

Kara raised an eyebrow. "You lied to your son about my nuggets?" Why would he do that? He was omitting something. Something important… "Who exactly are they?"

The old man got up and walked to his desk, bringing a bunch of files with him on the way back that he gave to Kara. "These seven are members of the New Caprican resistance. I didn't tell you earlier because I didn't want to bother you."

She kept roaming through the files. "Why would I be bothe…" She stopped when she opened one of the files, seeing a very familiar face in there. "Oh…"

"What?" Lee asked curiously, putting the bulletin away.

"Sam is one of the nuggets," she mumbled, looking up at the Old Man. "I can't teach him."

"Kara…"

"We have a past, sir. No way, leave him with Racetrack," Kara said. Frak, she feared for the awkwardness.

"She's right, Dad," Lee told his father. He was not jealous, he trusted Kara. It was just that he could put himself on Sam's place. "Why are you doing this to him? Having his ex-girlfriend as his flight instructor? That's really screwed up."

The Old Man cleared his throat. "I don't care about your past," he declared, looking at Kara. "These seven people are warriors. They saved thousands of souls in New Caprica. They deserve nothing less than the best and you, Kara, are the best. They are not military, but they're not civilians either. You just need to trim the edges… Sam is one of them and I'm sure you will find a way to work things out with him. This is not a request, Kara."

Okay, so he was right. But didn't mean Kara had to like it. She was hoping Anders was already over her because having him picturing her naked was not something she wanted… "Fine, but this'd better give me a promotion," she gave in. It was not like she had other choice, anyway; the old man had been pretty clear.

"We'll discuss that later…" Actually, if Kara wasn't his daughter-in-law, he would have made her a major already. However, that could be considered nepotism, given the fact they were related. "I'll send the group to Pegasus in a week. I hope that gives you time to organize things."

"If I say 'no' will you keep them?" she tried one last time.

"Kara…" he warned.

"You can always send Sam to the brig if he acts stupid…" Lee told his wife.

"He won't," the Old Man declared. "He promised he wouldn't." He had had a little chat with Anders before he had made the decision to send those nuggets to Kara in order to make sure he wouldn't bother her.

"Oh, so he knows… how did he react?" Kara inquired.

"He said it was fine as long as you played fair. Don't worry; Sam won't be a problem."

Kara sighed, seriously hoping her father-in-law was right.
