I woke in cold sweat from a dream- but not a normal dream. It had been a vision. I could feel the truth of it in my core. I looked over at Elena, who was sleeping fitfully next to me. Within seconds, she was awake as well.
"Kol? What are you doing awake? I just had this strange dream, but it felt so real!" She said, worrying out loud.
"Darling, I know. It wasn't your dream, it was mine. And it was a vision. I used to get them as a human. I'm sorry, my love, but it seems we may need to cut our honeymoon short a bit. But don't worry, there will be plenty of time for this all later." I said, feeling sad that our happiness had to be cut short.
"Kol, was it real? Is that what we need to do?" She asked, pertaining to the vision. "Do we really need to drag her into this? I know he is your brother, but I can't just hide my feelings of hatred against him." She continued.
"I know darling, but you saw the same thing I did. She will be his salvation. You already know that he would do anything in the world to protect her. And darling, from what I saw on the other side, she would do the same at this point. He needs to be the one to protect her, and in turn she will protect him. And she isn't going to be happy about what her little boyfriend was doing in his time away." I told her. She knew what I was saying was true. "Love, I'm not asking you to become best friends with him, even if he is your brother-in-law now."
"Fine. I will do it, but only because I know you are right. Not to mention, they are technically family now so I may as well extend an olive branch of some sort. And what does Tyler have to do with this?" She asked. It made me feel elated that she was accepting my family as her own now, and she was willing to be civil.
"My dear, he has everything to do with this. You see, Niklaus is in New Orleans. The witches there need him to overthrow Marcel- about damn time too, I bloody well hated the guy- and they have something hung over my brother's head. Something that isn't any of his concern. There is a she-wolf there claiming to be carrying his child. The witches know the child belongs to a hybrid, but they think its the wrong one. It is not my brother's child. It is the Lockwood's spawn. And yes, I know this information from my time in hell." I told her, recalling the other witches on the other side, showing me these things on purpose.
"So we have to get Caroline down to New Orleans to do what? Tell him that the baby is not his? I don't really see how she fits into this." Elena said, hanging her head into her hands.
"My dear, Caroline has many secrets, ones that she doesn't know of yet. She is the light in the darkness- so to speak. Only she can control him, keep him sane. As soon as he knows of the she-wolf's lies, he will show no mercy to any of the witches in New Orleans. Caroline won't let him do that. You will find, my love, that just as you were made for me, She was made for him. She is the light, he is the darkness. Just as you, my love were the warmth- while I was the cold. Together we have created balance, which is what nature intended." I told her, watching her eyes flicker with different emotions as I explained the situation. They finally stopped when they reached acceptance.
"How did I never see it before? The vision makes sense now. But how are we supposed to get her to New Orleans, she hasn't even accepted her own feelings for him yet." She asked quietly.
" I think you will find, my love, that she has indeed accepted them. It will only take a small push to bring them out into the light. I think the truth will do. The truth about Tyler's indiscretions." I told her with a wicked glint in my eye. "A few appropriately planted dreams should do the trick, we will need to convince her of my brother's safety being in question."
"How will we get you back into Mystic Falls? I can't go back there, Damon and Stefan are out to find me. And they all think you, Jeremy, and Jenna are dead." She said sadly.
"We won't be going to Mystic Falls, love. Don't worry. But you will need to make a phone call to Caroline to meet us, convince her of the importance of the situation. She will come very easily, especially for you." I told her, knowing it was the truth. "We will leave tomorrow. Early. Have her meet us where we were staying." I told her. She nodded, knowing what she had to do.
The morning came too quickly. We had told Jeremy and Jenna about what we had to do and had already agreed that they would be staying at the house in Christiansburg while Elena and I went on our little mission.
Elena had called Caroline who was successfully overjoyed at the notion of meeting Elena even with the upmost secrecy. Elena trusted Caroline not to tell the Salvatore's nor anyone else in Mystic Falls.
We boarded the jet quickly, before 8am. Our meeting with Caroline was supposed to be at 9pm. We would meet her at the house, and explain the entire situation.
We landed roughly around 8:30pm and made it back to the house quickly. At 9pm sharp, the doorbell rang. I stayed upstairs while Elena went to open the door.
"Caroline! I've missed you!" I heard Elena say as she hugged her blonde best friend.
"Oh Elena! It's so good to see you with you humanity again! Promise me to NEVER EVER turn it off again?" Caroline demanded.
"I promise Care, I am so sorry for being such a bitch to everyone and I will never be able to express how sorry I am about what I almost did to your mom." Elena said, almost in tears.
"I knew you weren't thinking correctly! Now, what did you bring me to a mansion in the middle of nowhere for, and why couldn't I tell anyone? They are going crazy looking for you, Elena!" Caroline said in her high pitched voice.
"Well, Damon and Stefan were torturing me to get me to turn my humanity back on. About halfway through, I had flipped the switch, but they didn't believe me and kept torturing me. Elijah came and found me, right as the veil dropped. I found out that Elijah had compelled me to forget a gigantic part of my life. The most important thing to me," my heart swelled with pride, "all because he was jealous. He compelled me to forget the man I was in love with. We couldn't tell anyone, because of obvious reasons. But then after Elijah compelled me to forget him, I ended up killing him." She said, starting to cry. I knew it hurt her.
"Please tell me it wasn't that hunter." Caroline said, pleading.
"What? NO. Definitely not." Elena said, clearing up that mess. Caroline's face dropped as she realized who Elena was talking about.
"You were in love with KOL?" She almost exclaimed.
"Very much so, Elijah made me forget him, but then the veil dropped and a few people escaped before Bonnie put it back up." That was my cue. I flashed down the stairs in less than a second and was standing beside Elena, my hands intertwined with hers. Caroline took a second to process what she was seeing.
"What- how- I don't even want to know how your back. I take it Elijah reversed the compulsion, then?" She said, eyes wandering back to Elena.
"Yep. But Kol wasn't the only one to come back, Caroline. He saved them, for me." Elena said, saying the cue to have Jeremy and Jenna walk down the stairs. Caroline's eyes went wide. "He saved my family, risking himself to bring them back for me." Elena finished as the rest of them finally joined us.
"I just- I can't believe this. Wait, Elena, what's on your finger?" Caroline said as she spotted Elena's wedding band next to my daylight ring.
"Well, a lot has happened in the last few days, Care. When I called you, we were kind of…. in Rome?" Elena said, trying to lighten the mood a bit.
"Why were you in Rome and what does it have to do with THAT?" She said, pointing to the rings.
"Kol and I maybe, sorta, kinda, got married yesterday?" Elena said quickly.
"YOU DID WHAT?" Caroline said, not in an angry way, more of a 'you got married and didn't invite me' sort of way.
"Say hello to the newest member of the Original family…" Elena said, smiling.
"You didn't invite me?" Caroline said, sadly.
"Caroline, it was a last minute trip to Rome, don't worry, I might let you plan our renewal of vows in 50 years or something." the blondes eyes lit up.
"So you still haven't told me what you brought me here for, unless it was just to tell me you got married to an original who came back from the dead without telling me!" Caroline said, feisty that one.
"Caroline, my brother is in trouble." I said, finally speaking up. "We could see things on the other side, the truth of everything. I know what you feel for him and what he feels for you. The witches in New Orleans think they have leverage over him. The leverage is false. I assume you are aware of a she-wolf named Hayley?" I asked quickly.
"Yes- what does the she-bitch have anything to do with this?" She said, anger in her eyes.
"She is pregnant. The witches know the child's father is a hybrid, and believe it to be Niklaus's. That is false. The child's father is Tyler Lockwood. Saw it with my own two eyes." I said, watching her face turn from anger to shock, back to anger again.
"I knew there was something going on between them." A flicker of sadness crossed her eyes, then went to confusion. "What do I have to do with all of this?"
"You need to be the one to tell my brother. You are the only one able keep him from doing something terrible." I told her, withholding some information.
"There's something you aren't telling me. How do you know I need to be the one to tell him?" She asked quickly. I looked towards Elena, who nodded. We had to tell her.
"My brother isn't the only Original Hybrid, it seems. When I came back, I brought back my magic with me. I'm a witch, and I had a vision about it. Please trust us on this, Caroline." I told her, who was looking at me with disbelief.
"Prove it." She said firmly. I nodded my head and put my hands on both sides of her head. I projected images into her mind, proving everything we just told her, and maybe a few extra things. Oops.
"Well that was enlightening. Elena, remind me to have a talk with you later, kay?" Caroline said, obviously trying to banish the image from her mind. "So when are we leaving? I have a few choice words that need to be said to two hybrids and a were-bitch." She said, straightening her jacket.
"Well that was easier than I had expected." Elena breathed out.
"We can leave now, if you want. Be there by morning." I said, looking at Elena for an answer.
"Yeah thats good. Jeremy, Jenna, you know what to do. I love you guys, be safe, Kol put up tons of protection spells around the place." Elena said, walking over to Jeremy and Jenna, hugging them goodbye.
"You be safe. Kol, you better protect her." Jeremy said to me.
"With my life." I said back to the two of them.
"Let's get this show on the road then. I can't wait to see the look on my brother's face when he finds out that I'm alive, you are his new sister-in-law, Caroline loves him," Caroline glared at me,"and the she-wolf was lying. This should be fun." I said, laughing, walking out the door holding Elena's hand and Caroline strutting behind us, all climbing into my SUV.
SO, tell me what you think? Getting a little drama in there...
